Believe it or not, at one time the term liberal actually applied to LIBERALS. The founders were liberals. Abe Lincoln was not a liberal. He was a practicing authoritarian. Anyway, the video today is by Dinesh D'Souza who will clarify much that is currently believed. Twitter is not acting Liberal. Biden is not acting Liberal. FaceBook is not acting Liberal. The PBS newshour is not Liberal. My premise is we need to restore being a Liberal to make use of the proper meaning. And of course my fellow posters agree. Correct?
And? What times do you want us to watch? Nobody is going to spend an hour to listen to a 1 hour rant or strawman. Be specific with what you want us to watch.
This reminds me of mentioning a good book and being told to name the pages I want others to read. This is the TRAP sprung by Democrats.
It's not. It's an argumentative fallacy. Make your debator respond to lots of points all at once, overwhelm them not because it's a good argument but through sheer number of them.
It used to be called classical liberalism which is of course what conservatives are today. Today liberals are classical socialists which is of course un American in every way.
CLASSIC Liberalism espouses freedom, low taxes, low regulations, personal responsibility and opportunity.
How would you know? I mean really. How can you know something that you do not understand? How can you condemn something, when what you think it is isn't what it is? The obvious problem some conservatives have, is that liberalism is dynamic. If liberalism was the same as it was 250 years ago it would not be liberalism. It would be conservatism. It is the novelty of the possibilities of the future that drives liberal thought. Clinging to the past is a conservative thing. But then, because conservatives are always clinging to the past they never see the future until it has passed them by. It is the liberals, who have been dragging conservatives into the future - kicking and screaming all the way. The earliest liberalism was an educational idea. That one be educated in a wide number of subjects. Thus one received a liberal education. Studied the seven liberal arts. This is what separates gentlemen from the rabble.
I always thought, like others, that liberalism was a birth defect. One that could only be changed by surgery, like a sex change.
Well so long as you believe that you can sleep well. Liberalism as a political credo is not evident today by any group but Libertarians and Republicans. Libertarians want total freedom. Republicans understand a need for a proper government. Democrats prove they want pure control by their almost daily imposition of more laws and regulations. Even climate is to be regulated by Democrats so they believe.
It's an ideal really. Ideals are not dynamic. Your ideology might be dynamic but you probably shouldn't call yourself liberal because of your ideology if it no longer conforms to liberal ideals.
Liberalism is the desire to change the status quo while conservatism is the desire to maintain or “conserve” the status quo. A person can be both a liberal and conservative depending on their stance of individual issues.
You mean progressivism is the desire to change the status quo. Like how the left changes the meanings of words to reshape worldviews and opinions. They would call it progressive. I call it manipulativism but that just my progressive phraseology.
And change it over and over and over. Showing nothing satisfies your definition of Liberal. As used in politics, it means a different thing. Democrats have this lust to control other humans. Proof is the New Deal. Now they want a different New Deal. They want our autos regulated, our guns regulated and our speech regulated. That kind of liberal is dangerous. Notice on forums Democrats approve the way Facebook, Twitter and others like YouTube handle their sites. Since they became very restricted on what is allowed on the sites.
If the nation allows abortion, and a progressive wants to keep Roe v Wade the law of the land, then they want to maintain the status quo, not change it.
A classical liberal will respect personal rights and choice no matter what. Ie.. They may keep the status quo like free speech as opposed to banning hate speech. Only a progressive authoritarian values 'progress' over liberty. A progressive authoritarian values the security and safety of the many over the liberty of the individual.
Assuming the fetus has obtained personhood. I defend the liberty of persons, not human bodies that are not even conscious or alive. So it depends on the stage of development.
And there is nothing "progressive" about authoritarianism, speech suppression and book banning. Amazon’s book bullying is just the latest act of woke intolerance. "‘hate speech’ is a bogus category wheeled out to forbid or criminalize speech that you don’t like." Jeff Bezos was once believed to be a libertarian.
Social media ALWAYS had restrictions on what they would allow to be posted on their platforms you’re wanting them to drop such rules would be a liberal stance on social media requirements. Progressives want the US to maintain its policy of having a minimum wage, they want to conserve that policy -,while a number of “conservatives “ want to change that current policy by ending the program all together. They are taking a liberal stance against minimum wages.
