Prosecutors go after the crimes they are sure to win. It has nothing to do with what the person may actually be guilty of doing. That is why a "not guilty" verdict doesn't mean "innocent".

 

That’s precisely what it means.

In this country you are innocent until proven guilty. If they can’t make a case against you then you are innocent. It’s a fairly simple concept.

 

Presumed innocent until proven guilty is the official line. Anyone that's ever worked in law enforcement or been arrested can tell you that in REALITY you are presumed guilty from the start. Regardless, being found "not guilty" is not the same as being "innocent".
