You're suggesting that race is a relevant factor, given that you said that the difference in race would make the Floyd case two separate stories, even if it was IDENTICAL (other than race), as you say, "one if he is white and one if he is black."

In the case of Arbery two men hunted down Arbery because he was black and you don’t think that should be talked about???

I haven't see any articles that state the scumbags targeted Amenhauser for being white. I've checked Newmax, Breitbart, OAN, etc and nothing.

Hey Chris. I can't say that I agree with your assumptions. Which is not the same, just to be clear, as saying that I'm contesting your thesis's foundational belief. But I do not think that this example is a great one for making your case. Typically, when minors are involved in a crime, their identities are protected, with very little info, other than their ages, given-- regardless of race: i.e., I think you are wrong in believing the article would have specified that they were white, had that been the case. Also, while you want to use this as an indictment of, "the media," i.e., the MSM, your link for the story is the Huffington Post which, I assume you know, is considered farther on the liberal left, in its perspective, than the mainstream media, in general.

I agree that this is an interesting story, but it comes down to a less than sensational crime-- every car jacking does not get national news attention-- gone wrong. There are far too many killings, for that matter, for the major media to cover them all, except locally. If this were considered a hate-crime, then there is a greater chance it would have received wider play. But there's no reason to think this is anything but a case of robbery (car theft) leading to an unintentional death.

I would attribute the less-than full, national coverage of this incident to an editorial decision, in that there are bigger stories to cover, w/ the Derrick Chauvin trial eating up much of the current oxygen, so that even other stories w/ much bigger ramifications than this botched car-jacking, such as the build-up of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, are getting short shrift. Then there is the NRA trial, currently in progress, getting relatively little coverage. Even President Biden's gun control initiatives, other than on our PF site, have not yet got much headline coverage. Or how about the HUGE story about the Senate Parliamentarian ruling that Democrats (who control the Senate) can use the Budget Reconciliation rules to pass at least THREE more bills this year on majority votes, exempt from filibusters?

It is entirely possible that not all those in the MSM who make the editorial calls are even aware of this particular incident, that you cite. It is also possible, if the well of bigger stories begins to run dry, that this story could get wider coverage.

And the very first story I read about this case listed the race of the two girls.
