If vaccination rates don't pick up, we may not get to herd immunity. If we don't, covid will be around and people will get it.

So, this is an article about some of the people who won't get a covid vaccination...

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/30/health/covid-vaccine-hesitancy-white-republican.html

(If you can't read it, you should copy the link above and paste it into the Incognito Tab of the Chrome browser.)

Do you think enough of these folks will come around in the end?

Oregon State says every on campus student must be vaccinated when they come back in the Fall. The Seattle Mariners baseball team has a section for those vaccinated.

Would you pay more for a flight where every passenger is vaccinated? For a restaurant meal? How about your grocery shopping?

Should unvaccinated people have to pay more because they cost more money to service? Who wants to wait table in a restaurant full of unvaccinated people?

If the virus is circulating, a lot of vaccinated people will look for businesses and services without unvaccinated people. Someone will supply that demand.

How about schools? Will teachers be game to teach unvaccinated students?

I'm not crazy about vaccine passports. First of all, it's all so uncertain, still... look at me, I had my first dose of the vaccine in December. Soon enough it will be six months. Who knows at what point my immunity will start declining? And what about the new variants? What about the different rate of immunity delivered by the various Covid-19 vaccines currently being used around the world, some 12 or 13 of them? So, would a vaccine passport make the same sense for someone vaccinated with the low efficacy CoronaVac versus someone vaccinated with the Pfizer? And what about individual immune systems? Some people may get the vaccine but they won't develop good immunity.

What I would favor, instead, is a huge public announcement campaign to educate people about the advantages of the vaccines, and incentives to get them vaccinated.

It's interesting, we keep giving away these checks for $1,400 to stimulate the economy... nothing would stimulate the economy more than beating the SARS-CoV-2 for good, so it would make more sense to pay people $100 if they agreed with getting the vaccine. It's guaranteed that the rate of vaccination would go through the roof, ensuring herd immunity, at which point vaccine passports wouldn't be needed. Just my opinion. I always thought that one catches more flies with sugar than with vinegar.

I think they will only be used for international travel and maybe for employers to say everyone that works here is vaccinated if they can get everyone vaccinated

our dentist sent us a email sayign all his work force is now vaccinated

I got the vaccine but will not go anywhere that demands I show proof of it.

That makes sense as the dentist office is where we can't socially distance and it's up close. Did your dentist ask you if you were vaccinated? I wonder if doctors start requiring it the way they required a negative test before scheduling outpatient surgeries and procedures.

I've been reading quite a bit as I grapple with my decision. Some of it has been really heartbreaking as I've heard about people turning their backs on their family and friends. One guy just estranged from his dad (who got the vax) saying that he doesn't want to be around him with that poison in his body. And, vice versa, vaccinated people shunning the unvaccinated. I can't recall any point in history where people were so hostile and divided. It's scary.

we have about 3 people in our family that won't get, we all get along - and we know we can never convince them to get, so do not even bother trying

but I agree, the country is more divided than ever in my lifetime

I'm not a mental health professional but I would argue that something is amiss in one's family relationships if a vaccination can break them apart. I'm happy for you that is not an issue in your family. ;-)

This kind of sounds like a quote from the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". "If he'd just pay me what he's spending to make me stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him."

The main reason I want a vaccine passport is because I want to travel again. I am sure most other countries will require some type of proof of vaccination before travel is allowed.

No one needs the info besides my primary care doctor. If they can’t take my word for it when I say I am fully vaccinated then they don’t need my business. The vaccine was approved for use on an emergency basis thus no one can be compelled to get one.

We have the divide in my family over the vaccine as well. My sister, brother in law, and I got it and my brother is an anti vaxxer and persuaded our mom not to get it. Fortunately she can not get out on her own so her exposure at their home is minimal.

I'll respect the rights of private properties to require vaccination (and proof of vaccination) just as I do already with those that still require masks. I might change my mind however if properties not requiring masks or vaccines (or even restricting them) are not similarly respected.

Even more people will be moving to red states.

Puts an interesting spin on Rev 18:4 - God telling His people to come out of Babylon!

We linked child payments to vaccination. Our rates are around 95%

    https://www.health.gov.au/health-to.../immunisation-coverage-rates-for-all-children

We aren’t doing nearly as well with the Covid vaccine though

Until next year when the Indian variant starts to hit some populations. That variant does not affect just the older cohort

    it ain’t over yet
