You've got to hand it to Navalny -- he has done much to shine a big ol' spotlight on Russia's political corruption at the national level. He's brought them out now to try and outlaw him and his supporters from even running for parliament, an overt escalation over the previous efforts to poison and imprison the man and attack his reputation in hopes that he and his movement would quietly go away.

'Fascist' Russia bill could bar up to 200,000 Alexei Navalny supporters from running for parliament

A group of Russian lawmakers have introduced a bill that could ban anyone who has worked for Alexei Navalny or even made a donation to his foundation from running for parliament, with one critic describing it as “genuine fascism”.

The move comes on the heels of a sweeping Kremlin crackdown against Mr Navalny, Russia’s most prominent opposition politician, and his allies ahead of national elections this September.

Russian prosecutors last month filed a lawsuit asking the court to designate Mr Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation as an extremist organisation, potentially exposing 200 employees and thousands of donors to stiff fines and prison sentences.

A court has yet to make a ruling on that lawsuit but a separate injunction has already suspended the foundation’s activities.

Mr Navalny is nothing from nowhere, a liar and corrupted thief who has not more as 1% supporters in Russia.
His problem is Russians dislike traitors like him who make $$$ millions lying about his country.
He is the guy of Merkel, Biden, Macron & Co, he represents only himself.
Russians don't desire a 'democracy' a la Gorbachev, Yeltsin and Navalny.
Anything written in western MSM about him is a lie, he has no smallest chance to win election even in a small village.

Nope, it was not. Unlike you, I actually watch and read CNN and MSNBC, and I've never seen or heard anything of the sort.

It's clear that you merely read or hear whatever online fake news and propaganda sources tell you they are saying.

You are right. No one made an effort to stop Trump from running, other than other Republican presidential candidates. IMO. the RNC SHOULD HAVE prevented him from running, but they did not. Trump himself threatened to run as a third party, if Republicans "mistreated him."

I remember Priebus (who was RNC Chairperson) flying to NYC to get Trump's signature on a piece of paper promising not to run as a third party and then holding it up for everyone to see. It was like Chamberlain at Munich. Peace in our time. Priebus has joined the Naval Reserve and now works - when he's on active duty - at the Pentagon, where I am sure he serves the country better than he did in his RNC Chairperson or White House years.

Trump loves to throw people under the bus...knowing that no one thrown under the bus wants to admit having been thrown there.

You clearly weren't paying attention. Here is just one example:

Impeachment needed to bar Trump from running for federal office: Rep. Joaquin Castro

@Durandal, you owe @Giftedone an apology.

I'm sorry. I forgot that Trump had committed several impeachable offenses and should have been barred from running as a result of impeachment.

Not the same thing as introducing a bill to prevent your political opponents from being eligible to run, of course. There is no comparison.

It seems @Durandal took the words of @Giftedone the same way I took them, because that is how they were written: as an analogy between Trump and Navalny (which is who this thread is supposed to be about, BTW). In that analogy, it is assumed that we are talking about Trump's FIRST run for president. If giftedone had been comparing the idea of wanting to prevent our, at the time, current president from running for office in the future, due to his actions while in power,
to the idea of not allowing the falsely-imprisoned Navalny, or anyone who'd ever worked for him, or anyone who'd ever sent him a contribution, to run for, not just president but, for any parliamentary office, then Durandal owes giftedone nothing except, possibly, sympathy for his ineptitude in proposing analogies.

Assuming your strawman holds - that might be the case .. but it is not. You completely missed the rest of the story - and thus the real analogy - in a more general sense .. not needing the specific characteristic having done bad deeds while in office.

but even this you have not defended in what may prove to be your own arrogant "ineptitude" - your assertion that doing something illegal while in office should disqualify one from running for office again ..

So we have 2 ineptitudes - in the post where you are desperately attempting to project this ineptitude on others.

It is you that is completely out of the loop mate - why you would not do a quick google to confirm your lack of knowledge I don't know - or at least pretend to want not to be embarrassed - again.

This is from January of this year -

We must impeach Trump and bar him from holding office again. Now
    . https://www.theguardian.com/comment...ump-and-bar-him-from-holding-office-again-now

and that was just the first in a quick search .. seems you don't get out much ..

Navalny is on the payroll of foreign nationals, if not governments as well, and it's amazing he survived this long. Imagine if a candidate for office in our country was on a Chinese payroll and wanted to overthrow our Constitution because he preferred the Chinese system of government rather than our own?

If Navalny's followers are so stupid that they would pay attention to a Soros stooge, not realizing that the 'anti corruption' protests have always been his calling card for regime changes towards his one world government, then they deserve to be prosecuted as traitors together with Navalny.

Clean up Russia Mr. Putin, or you might end up like us.

Not a democracy, since in a democracy the majority rules. You mean an oligarchy that put in a senile person that would be under their control as an 'in your face' affront to the American people. But that's what you get when the oligarchy owns the media. I guess they think we're all idiots.

In the meantime, the government goes after conservatives no matter how innocent, for fear of a rebellion, while ignoring the atrocities of the criminals - who of course would vote for them. Yet ignoring them, is the very thing that is going to bring about a conservative backlash.

I have to wonder if it's deliberate. Lenin's words comes to mind. When someone asked him why he associates with criminals and not intellectuals? He said it's because criminals are the ones you will bring about the communist revolution.

You are a veritable cornucopia of goofy propaganda, aren't you?

I'm curious who you think the oligarchy is with the power to select an allegedly senile person and keep him under their control. Is it eeevil George Soros? Of course it is. I don't even have to ask about that one. But who else? Is it also eeevil Hillary Clinton, or was she another pawn of the great cabal? Who are they? How do they do all of this? How did their 'affront' to the American people handily defeat Ronald Klump, the greatest president in the history of the universe (next to Putin, of course)?

No one knows in reality where Navalny was in Germany.
Officially he was medically treated in the Charite Hospital, but it's a lie.
Tellingly he was outside of Germany for training.

Merkel abolished Constitution, Parliament, all freedoms, imposed curfew ( 5 Years prison for disobedience ) , destroyed industry, free press, anything in the name of her satanic agenda.
She would be nice according to you.
Putin cares for his people, he's a bad guy, a fascist.
    I can't understand your 'logic'
