Democrats hope that Manchin, who has said Democrats should have faith that there are “10 good people” in the Republican caucus, will lessen his opposition to filibuster reform when Senate Republicans repeatedly prove him wrong.

What evidence is Joe relying on to think there are “10 good people” in the Republican caucus? A documented history of compromise with Dems? No. A recognition of the overwhelming evidence of Don's guilt in the impeachment trials? No. Voting to support a bipartisan Jan. 6 commission? No.

Sinema doesn't even have a firm grasp of the filibuster's origins.

The filibuster was created by mistake when the Senate, cleaning up its rule book in 1806, failed to include a provision to cut off debate. (A so-called cloture rule allowing two-thirds of senators to end a filibuster was adopted in 1917; the proportion was reduced to three-fifths in 1975.) The filibuster encouraged extremism, not comity: It was a favorite tool of pro-slavery senators before the Civil War and segregationists after it. More than any other type of legislation, the filibuster was used in the 20th century to derail civil rights bills, from anti-lynching measures to bans on housing discrimination.

It is laudable that the two are committed to the concept of bipartisanship. But since none exists on the Repub side of the aisle their fidelity to a past relic means they are enabling Repubs to block passage of essential legislation like HR-1. A bill designed to stop things like this........................

REPUBLICANS ARE POISED TO GERRYMANDER THEIR WAY BACK TO THE MAJORITY

In 2012, the last midterm after a census, Democrats won more than 51 percent of the House vote, yet Republicans held on to the lower chamber comfortably.

    https://theintercept.com/2021/04/08/republicans-gerrymandering-for-the-people-act-voter-suppression/

As Goldberg states, "We are in the eye of the storm of American democratic collapse." She observes..."They (Repubs) are stripping the authority to administer elections from those who stood up for the rule of law this past year." Like Brad Raffensperger.

Manchin and Sinema can help slow it down if not stop it. History will not look kindly on them if they don't.

Fake News. The last Congressional Election was 2020 not 2012.

Dems won 50.8% of the seats with 50.8% of the vote.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_...presentatives_elections#cite_note-clerk2020-2

If you want more competitive House seats, tell Dems to draw them. A race in a district that has a partisan lean of greater than +30 isn't a race it's a beauty contest. The GOP has 4 such seats. The Dems have TWENTY, and the vast majority were drawn by Democrats.

If Dems want more competitive districts, TRY DRAWING SOME.

    Pennsylvania 3 D+41 Democratic
    California 13 D+40 Democratic
    New York 13 D+40 Democratic
    New York 15 D+39 Democratic
    California 12 D+38 Democratic
    Illinois 7 D+37 Democratic
    California 37 D+36 Democratic
    Georgia 5 D+36 Democratic
    Washington 7 D+36 Democratic
    Massachusetts 7 D+35 Democratic
    California 34 D+34 Democratic
    New Jersey 10 D+34 Democratic
    New York 5 D+34 Democratic
    New York 7 D+34 Democratic
    New York 12 D+34 Democratic
    Illinois 4 D+33 Democratic
    New York 8 D+33 Democratic
    California 44 D+32 Democratic
    New York 9 D+32 Democratic
    California 40 D+31 Democratic
Fake News. The US Constitution does not grant Brad, an appointee of the executive branch authority over State Elections. Rather, this power is granted to the ELECTED State Legislature.
They would be fools to tie themselves to a sinking ship.

    Betting odds on Senate Control
    Republicans - 53.4% (Aug 1 - 49.5%)
    Democrats - 46.6% (Aug 1 - 50.5%)

What the hell happened in August?

    Betting Odds House Control
    Republicans - 70.8%
    Democrats - 29.2%

    https://electionbettingodds.com/House2022.html

"MANCHIN TO SWITCH PARTIES?" Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) sounds like a man who is preparing to become a Republican:

“Overall, the amount we spend now must be balanced with what we need and can afford — not designed to reengineer the social and economic fabric of this nation or vengefully tax for the sake of wishful spending.”

"West Virginia is turning solidly red and Manchin knows it as well as anybody."

Dat Thread starter guy did specify After the Census. However the Last census
in mid decade { meaning as a result of Obama Idolatry } also specified that
the Middle Class was In DECLINE.I have yet to hear from a Democrat
the Importance of dat.Yes,Dat.Because Democrats are by definition, connivers.
They have dispensed with dat. They have decided to move on.
To more Unenlightened ways and means.Like practicing Evil.
Outright attempting to destroy our Bill of Rights.Any notion of

Yet these same Protestors gets bailed out from jail in mere hours.
The American Populace is watching and aware. That is why Trump

    Where Trump WON 18 of 19 bellwether counties.Won Florida,Ohio
and Texas early. No need for all nighters and stopping of votes being counted.
Because the Democrats Lie and Cheat.Name one thing about the Border

Some Democrat in California just passed state legislation where

Sensible Democrats reassert themselves in a crazed party accelerating for the cliff: "THIS DOESN’T SOUND LIKE A MAN ABOUT TO FALL FOR BIDEN’S CHARMS OR SCHUMER’S PRESSURE, BUT WE’LL SEE": Manchin Calls $3.5 Trillion Spending Bill ‘Fiscal Insanity.’

A simple and obvious truth clearly communicated.
That's the problem with celebrity radicals.

"The package requires approval from all 50 Senators, but Manchin of West Virginia and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona want to lower the cost of the measure and change some policy provisions."

Progress will require compromise. Their radicals are refusing to compromise.

Arguably, both could get elected as Repubs in their respective states. At least we finally know what Manchin wants with regards to the reconciliation bill. Sinema is a black box.

I can already hear Manchin and Sinema a few years from now "We made a mistake" and "I wish I had known back then". They need to come to their senses now!

Not only are they "poised" to gerrymandering their way into the majority. When they had the majority it was only thanks to gerrymandering. So the fraud is already in place. It's just that what Republicans stand for is so unpopular that, every so often, not even their cheating can offset it.

I get the feeling the only thing that would elicit that kind of remorse is if they were voted out of office. Cuz they have clearly put their own political fortunes ahead of the Dem agenda.

Politics. You can see why D.C. is called a swamp. There is far too much money involved for it to be an honest enterprise, and unfortunately we are reliant on these people to keep themselves honest. People shouldn't make a fortune from being in public office. They should be paid minimum wage, if that, and campaign financing should not come from massive donations from corporations and wealthy individuals. These things take the democracy out of our democracy.

    Manchin/Sinema's tragic naivete.

Let us hope that they maintain that naivete. What a relief to dismantle this disaster of a bill.

"THE POLITICS OF THE STOMPY FOOT": Rolling Stone Lefty Loses It, Shrieks ‘Joe Manchin Just Cooked the Planet.’

“As the West Virginia Democrat Senator holds fast against Presidentish Joe Biden’s $5 trillion “Build Back Better Soviet” reconciliation bill, Goodell is far from the only lefty in full-bore panic mode.”

    https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/476900/
    [IMG]
Has the Rolling Stone apologized their last pack of lies about horse wormer?
"While Manchin makes sense talking about the “brutal fiscal reality” of the massive reconciliation bill, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes is officially losing it."

    Chris Hayes
    @chrislhayes

"THERE IS NO BRUTAL FISCAL REALITY THE NATION FACES; IT IS ENTIRELY MADE UP!"

" Twitter rando replied to Hayes — in all caps, of course", “IT’S TRUE. IF YOU YELL, INTEREST PAYMENTS ON THE DEBT DISAPPEAR!”
"There’s no debate from them any longer. Just name-calling, f-bomb dropping, and angry defiance against basic democratic processes. They’re indulging in the politics of the stompy foot, and really ought to be sent to bed without dinner."

"They’re panicking because they’re spoiled children who might not get their way."

Amazed Manchin and the Republicans haven't already caved.

    What a babe!

Represents her voters like a Boss:

She's like the folks on the Left that lie about her to stop. She would probably be happier joining the GOP and returning Mitch McConnell to the Majority.

The reality is Manchin and Sinema are fine with sinking Biden's agenda (the proposals for spending being paid for with tax increases) as long as it doesn't hurt their chances of re-election.

It's worth noting Biden's agenda including things like child care and climate are popular with strong majorities of voters.

    gerrymandering explained :

the point of gerrymandering is NOT to maximize the number of your own secure districts, but to put as many of your opponents into as few districts as possible. in louisiana the 2nd district (orleans, cancer alley and east baton rouge) is heavily democratic and will remain democratic for the foreseeable future. that leaves 4 districts that the repubs can safely win with 51 or 52% of the votes.

this becomes more complicated in more populous states where the democrats are crammed into several +30 districts, but the outcome is the same - more republican districts.

did democrats "do this to themselves?" no doubt they cooperated by creation of "black majority districts" in the 1970s. this dilutes the effectiveness of dem gerrymanders as shown by the number of +30 dem districts in ny and ca.

Or more importantly, protecting the nation from fiscal irresponsibility. Do you actually believe those lies about taxes covering it? Did nobody tell you that, if you took the all the income for the 1% you wouldn't even be close to paying for it?
