I ask this to bring healthy debate. Our presence in the region has had positive effect on terrorism and a good stabilizing effect on oil that greatly effects our economy.

Biden recently attacked Iranian backed militia targets. They just sent some return fire today with no casualties reported as of now. I agree with these attacks on the Iranian backed militias. Iran has played a proxy war with us for far too long and I am hawkish on my views to that country. I honestly don’t believe peace can be accomplished in their current form. So I surprisingly am behind Biden in his somewhat shocking actions. Hats off on this one President Biden.

I am also curious if anyone else has read “The Twilight War” by David Crist? He goes through the decades long proxy war that we have been in with Iran. After reading that book I believe exiting the region would be catastrophic to the shipment of world energy and could possibly start a power vacuum that would ignite a war like none of us have ever seen.

At this point, the vendors of military equipment need greater instability within the Middle East so pulling out is the right thing to do. Then, the donors to DC politicians will push for public outcry about the human tragedy in the M.E. and that the USA should again deploy forces thus requiring equipment and supplies sales making the DC insiders happy as donations, junkets and jobs are tossed around by the vendors.

It's a broken record in D.C. and we keep falling for it

I thought the President had clearly outlined that the terrorist threat is not Islamists but angry, middle aged, white American men.

And it helps Israel to murder Palestinian civilians. :(

My suggestion: leave apartheid state Israel alone. Stop all aids to Israel, financially as well as arms deliveries.

Let the Zionists deal themselves with the problems they created their own! They should finally grow up and not always rely on big mommy USA to protect them.

I agree with the energy source being threatened but why is America the only country protecting the vast oil reserves in the ME? We spend billions of dollars keeping out military in the ME for this reason. Shouldn't other countries who have an interest in ME oil help support our efforts equally?

Oil has nothing to do with Israel or Palestine.

ME oil is needed to keep the global economy running. This has nothing to do with military equipment vendors.

Then why is the US protecting Israel as if it were its 51st state? :(

Not for long. We're living at the end of the oil age. :)
No matter how much the Russians and Arab states cry.

It is all about shared responsibility.
    United states fight wars.
Other countries like China and Russia get oil contracts.
It is very beneficial to United States, because China need oil to produce affordable goods for Americans.

That's the thing. The Chinese and Russian would immediately replace us in the region if we vacate. That would mean they would control the energy resources and it would also mean the end of the petro-dollar. Is that what you want?

They are ok with the status quo, because it works for them, but they would replace us if we gave up on it.

Sure sounds like someone else "figured it out" for him and told him what to think. The "white man victimhood" attitude is becoming more and more common within certain circles.

One of the false necessary illusion narratives both red and blue sing to themselves at night for comfort. "The Terrorists are comming" - and because of this enormous threat - we must spend 1.2 Trillion a year on military - and it is our "Patriotic Duty" to trade essential liberty for security - so great is this risk of harm ..

A risk of harm so great - that it is 400 times less than the risk of harm from - "Walking" - so duck and cover .. schnell shnell !

Heartburn brought up terrorism as a reason, while others have had other explanations. Personally I offered my view in post #11.

    Petro-Dollar.

    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/petrodollars.asp

What happens if the petrodollar collapses?
If the petrodollar collapses there would be a significant economic fallout as this would mean the dollar's value as the world's reserve currency may not hold, impacting the dollar balances of a variety of nations. However, if the petrodollar was phased out gradually and replaced with another currency, such as the yuan, markets may remain stable but the dollar would lose significant power. Many countries favor the de-dollarization.

It seems to grow with the listing of sins attributed to being white and the dominant culture.

I don't know. I'm white, but I'm not feeling it (ever). The only place I hear about it is in the RQ media, so obviously they are brainwashing people into feeling like victims.

Israel defends itself. They don’t just go out and murder Palestinians. I would pick an established democracy over an authoritarian terrorist group all day long. They are a great ally

Again? WE had pretty much backed out of military engagements in the ME, kicking ass all the way, and subdued the bad actors. Looks like the democrat's buddies are back to misbehaving again tho'.

I'd say no, with the incompetents we have in office now, we should NOT engage anyone stronger than say, Haiti, bursima, Iceland , Swiss guard.. etc.. type mil..and I'm not sure about the present military leaders being able to decidedly defeat any of those.

There's no doubt the demise of the dollar as the reserve currency would lower its value.
