I went to a Russian trade fair in Melbourne Vic. Like many others, I suppose, I was shocked at how
primitive the products were. The tractors stood out - they looked like something out of the 1950's,
the castings in particuar were so crude.
Russia once had a decent space agency, but now their Soyuz is rather dated. Their rocket engines
are some of the best - even used by America for many years. But Putin has allowed the space agency
    to run down. Sad really.

Give it time. In the 1950's 'Made in Japan' was a byword for junk. Look at Japan now.

Belarus tractors are made in the country of Belarus. FYI, Belarus is not Russia. Try again... (at least Belarus manufacturers a tractor....Aussie land doesn't)

That is true. Probably the most negative about Communism - people stopped caring about the quality of their work. There is even a joke about it - "Russian women - it's good that their fathers don't make them with their hands".

Belarus is not Russia (sort of) but still inhabited with many "Homo Soveticus". ;)

If you call Belarus tractors a tractor....im an Ag Tech/HE Tech.....ivd never seen so much torch $hit weld in my life....gaskets are basically shoelace thick if that......and the 540/1000 PTO is a gradual engagement....not instant speed, like our JDs,CIH,NH. And this is just a partial list....I can go on.

Nothing much has changed from the late 80s til now with their tractors.....some Belarus tractors have German engines....the Russian ones constantly had issues.....crappy injectors, wiring harness looked like a rats nest, hydraulic pumps simply couldn't handle our smallest air drills....etc,etc.

Well maybe that's a rare exception. Certainly the article that you linked to says nothing about vaccines being sent back.

It's a good question, a really good question.
With time Taiwanese, Sth Korean and Japanese products improved out of sight.
Even the Sth Korean Kia today is quite a car.
But Russia is complicated - where foreign manufacturers have set up plants the
quality is good. But remember the history - the Bolsheviks killed of the Capitalists
and Kulaks, the peasant farmers - defined as someone having two cows or a
petrol engine. And then to this day many smart people just leave Russia. And big
corporations find themselves in the Putin cross-hairs. Strangely enough, this is
starting to happen with China too, ie Jack Ma. But there's little entrepreneurship
in Russia, no real business ethic like China.

From what I've read, the real problem with Sputnik V is that it comes with a free bonus virus that is able to replicate.

    1. The history is just that, history.

    2. Not really.

    3. If they are corrupt, yes. Putin has cleaned up Russia's past corruption perpetrated by oligarchs for the most part. Some of the best, if not the best, companies to invest in now are in Russia. Gazprom, Sberbank, for example, have low PE ratios and pay high dividends. Through Putin's leadership, Russia is the least fragile economy in the World of any major power. Russia has a flat tax, has paid down its debt so-much-so their debt to GDP ratio is currently about 15%, whereas the US's is about 110% of GDP, i.e., more debt than GDP. There is currently no first world country on more solid financial footing than Russia, period.

    4. :roflol: Yeah, right.

#3. Is that why 80% of Russkis live at or below poverty level and 40+ mln have no adequate toilets? Thats a helluva economy, no wonder many young Russkis dream of leaving.

75,000+ Canadians overstay their visas here yearly as opposed to less than 5,000 Russians. I guess Canada doesn't have toilets at all...must be poor as hell too. Why else would 15 times as many Canadians illegally immigrate as compared to Russians? According to you, it should be the other way around.

Joe Biden lets more illegals cross the southern border in one day than Russians overstay illegally in a whole year.

You don't suppose Canada being next door and Russia being an ocean away would have anything to do with it, do you?

Nope. What, you think the difference between a 3 hour flight and a 10 hour flight caused an extra 70,000 to overstay their visas???

Pretty damn obvious the Canadians want to come here a lot more than those Russians you and zoomie seem to think are just dying to come here.

Sure, what you say is factual. But it isn't the whole truth. You can have poor people with
litle debt because no-one gives them credit. That's not the case with Russia, but it under-
scores the fact that Russians are very poor. Putin himself said half of all hospitals in Russia
    don't have running hot water.
Some of these big resource companies now more or less belong to Putin. Their owners are
in jail for 'corruption' but the real corruption is the seizure of other people's assetts, Bolshevek
style. And like China now, the govt won't tolerate powerful people outside the govt..

LOL...75K Canadians?.....that overstay their "welcome"....thats probably just in South Florida alone.

But here's the kicker.....those 75k....spend a lot of cash down here.....theres thousands of Canadians that work stateside, with Nexus cards, work Visas, and such ,pay US taxes that contribute to our infrastructure....works the other way around....you realize that there's probably 600-700K US expats living in Canada....they work there too....many of those were draft dodgers of the Vietnam War.....military personnel stationed up there, etc. I happen to be a "armchair expert" on Canada, since I have connections there(paternal side), I have property there that I lease briefly out due to covid19 restrictions....so they do have toilets....not poor as hell....I will be traveling there soon to SK....I can take a few pics of how "poor" it is and post here if you're interested....fair enough?

15X as many Canadians "illegally" immigrate?.....where do you get these figures?

Well...yeah,Biden let's in illegals ,OK.....geography dictates that would be the case....Mexico right next door...with 140 mln peoples. But hey....let's face it....US 'mericans" enjoy some cheap labor and will gladly pay some wet backs $2/day to pick their veggies outta their gardens. Ive got a high school buddy down in McAllen TX that has his roofing business....and rounding up half dozen hombres for $50 a day is no problem....they ask no questions, don't complain hardly, all good.

Yeah....big difference between 3-10 hr flight.

Many Canadians fly....many drive across, even walk....4500+ mile border you see.

I'll say again....that 70K "overstaying" is small compared to those 400-500k+ that work here.....same goes for ex pat Americans up there.

E.g......former Conservative PM candidate Andrew Scheer....dual citizen from Minnesota....Ted Cruz.....senator from Texas, born in Calgary,AB.....I still wonder if he really gave up his Canadian citizenship?

I think having to fly in versus being able to walk or drive in makes a massive difference. It's the same story at the southern border.

Russians have been immigrating here *legally* in droves for a long time, especially ever since the economic collapse in the 90s.
