Just because the sickest breakthrough cases can have high viral loads (for the first week), doesn't mean it doesn't help on average to reduce transmission. Just doesn't help to the degree that it helped with the original pandemic strain.

Another way vaccination helps is to reduce severity on average. More vaccinated people means fewer covid cases that make their way to the icu, and take beds away from people who had heart attacks.

The more important point was that in the UK study, which was a random sample, vaccinated persons with covid had lower viral loads on average. This means they are less likely to transmit the virus when infected. The problem with the study conservatives cite, which is mentioned in the nature article, is that it was not random. It was symptomatic people with covid, and so in vaccinated people this biases the study against them because they are less likely to be symptomatic in the first place.
