    And that is an issue
The issue is that much of their earnings are not classified as “income”.
No idea but what I do know isn’t “fair” is billionaires paying a lower percentage of their combined income than people in the middle class.

Like I said before, for the left it's do as I say, not as I do.

To visit the Met and see the artwork you have to wear a mask but the rich elitists get together at the Met for a tax writeoff and the only ones wearing a mask were the lowly workers.

Notice only the slaves have to wear masks.

How much is a 'fair' amount for you to take what other people earn?

It isn’t taking — it is a choice for living in a first world nation. As to your question, I support a highly progressive income tax that compromises all income from all sources.

IMO the high should be around 50% with an additional 2 percent tax on wealth over $50 million and an additional 3 percent of wealth over $1 billion. No deductions would be allowed on the additional tax.

We already have the most progressive income tax in the world. How much more do you think you own of other peoples work?

A phony one, it would be unconstitutional and unmanageable as 9 of 11 European countries found out.

Yes it is, it's all classified as earnings when it is earned or realized and the top 1% pay hugely more of those taxes on those earnings than any other group as total revenue and as an effective tax rate.

At this point there would probably be overwhelming popular support of taxing the living hell out of everyone with a net worth of over half a billion dollars. Of course, that will never even be suggested by any serious politician. ;-)

How are you possibly and fairly going to assess the wealth of all those people. How are you going to hire all the appraisers to do that and do so every year? What about all the contest to those appraisals that will happen? Go research the probates large estates go through each year just trying to come up with the value at the time of death. And everything is frozen then. How are they supposed to pay it you think they all have it sitting around in cash?

You think Bill Gates should pay almost $4,000,000,000 over the income tax he already pays just because he owns a lot of stuff? Even if he has no income that year? Just what he still owns he has to pay the federal government $4,000,000,000 just because he owns it? You think he has that sitting around in cash somewhere?

What happened to the government cannot take your property, your wealth, from you without just compensation? And yes under the Constitution it would be a "takings". You'll need a constitutional amendment to get a wealth tax.

Well it is easy to drum up the jealousy and envy of the masses. But ownership of property and protection from government confiscation is a fundamental principle of our country and protected by the Constitution.

I don’t “own” anyone’s work including my employees. Your loaded questions show an ineffectual argument.

Taxes are an exchange for government services and progress in society. No one is forced to pay.

I have already answered your question.

It was quite amusing watching the rich elitists gallivanting around without masks while the plebes serving them had to wear them? WHY? Guaranteed everyone working there were vaccinated. So what makes them any different than those attending? The breath of the poor has more Covid than the rich.

By now most Americans are convinced that the super rich as a class are corrupt, and that much of their wealth is ill-gotten.
I don't think envy and jealousy has much to do with that conviction.

Progressive taxation has been ruled constitutional - like it or not.

They already pay most of the taxes but that will never be enough for the big government types.

Government directed progress isn't progress and never has been.

No one is forced to pay? LOL

Some of the biggest advancements in human history were due to government spending and grants but your opinion is noted.

    Correct

The Trumps were rich before Trump entered politics.
Our corrupt political party system made The Clintons rich.

The Clintons are crooked enough to gag their own left wing supporters.

"With Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton subverted
the legal system and sullied the presidency. With Marc
Rich, he perverted the legal system and may have traded
a constitutional power for personal benefit…."
THE NEW YORK TIMES, "Get Rich Quick,", By Maureen Dowd, 2/11/2001.

Money spent on private progress is not government progress.

    No, it's just money spent.
