The new deal proves that is pretty far from the truth

Some details emerge. The caveat is that this media outlet is staunchly supportive of our conservative Government. We were getting 12 Subs out of the French deal, 8 with the replacement deal. Compensation to be paid to the French ~ no surprise. No delivery until at best 2040. At least, as there is the Opposition Leader speaking, we know what it will demand for its support.

My thread clearly stated "Newsom sees new hope in polls" and I predicted he would win.

    Nice try.

We pulled our military out without warning our allies and they had to scramble to get thier citizens out and you knew this.

Yes we did abandon our allies as Well as our own citizens.

Biden did try to get most of them out after the fact.

Wrong. There is no comparison to Afghanistan.

All we are doing is giving them some subs. That does not somehow equal they can trust us to stay and fight in a battle.

Biden gives no reason for anyone to trust him.

You aren't 'giving us some subs'. We are buying technology that the US has only ever given to one other nation and then buliding submarines based on that technology.

As for trusting the US, I realize you are not going to accept this, but trust in the US in this reason has increased considerably since Trump departed. Biden has put considerable effort into improving relations with major US allies and it is bearing fruit. This is one example of that. Trump's erratic behaviour and insistence on taking unilateral action without consulting allies eroded the US position in Asia.

You need to stop mainlining right wing propaganda and actually try to understand the perspective of other nations. Not what you think their perspective should be, but their actual perspective. The US decides to cut & run in Afghanistan before Biden got elected. That he carried through on that agreement doesn't change that.

    Also you are wrong:

    https://www.usnews.com/news/the-rep...reatens-to-erode-his-image-on-the-world-stage

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-jo...son-angela-merkel-emmanuel-macron-11629406300

There is numerous links showing the world leaders are unhappy with Biden and yes some feel he abandoned them.

I even read articles that said they were unsure of Biden before the Afghan mess up. The dates on these articles were even before Afghan.

Not everyone trusted Trump. World leaders did not like him for the most part.

Same can be said for Biden too.

Biden agreed to continue with the pullout of Afghanistan and screwed it up.

He is the POTUS and he could have done the withdrawal any way he wanted to.

There is numerous articles online showing world leaders are not confident in Biden anymore and some are unhappy with him. I posted 2 such links in my above post. (2nd post up)

You come off as liberal so of course you would defend Biden.

You really do just make stuff up, don't you.

First, we do allow US nuclear powered and (possibly) armed ships in our waters. We have been doing so since those ships were commissioned. It happens all the time.
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-05/us-navy-warships-arrive-brisbane-uss-ronald-reagan/11281942

Second, Australia has been paying for its own defence for over 120 years (we sent forces overseas before we were even independent). In fact, courtesy of our alliance with the US we spent an absolute fortune in Vietnam and Afghanistan and lesser but substantial amounts in Iraq. We committed to spend this money on submarines when Obama was President, though I know you won't claim he was getting us to 'pay for military protection ourselves'.

Try putting a tiny bit of effort into your posts. It is embarassing to read such drivel.

You come off as someone who doesn't know a single thing about the way Trump was percieved or Biden is percieved in in this region. That is because you don't actually have a clue about how other nations think. You weren't payng attention when Trump was in power and you aren't paying attention now. You have a political template that you use to shape your view of every situation, no matter what the facts.

Biden has rebuilt regional confidence in the US as an ally against China. He has strengthened bilateral ties with specific nations and multilateral bodies such as The Quad.

LIke I said, you are incapable of accepting that because your programming won't let you. Fortunately facts don't care about your propaganda.

I’m sure the deal is for nuclear powered US Los Angeles class attack Subs, which would enhance Australian naval capabilities. I’m also sure Australia is already, and has been covered for decades by the US’s nuclear umbrella, which is the main deterrent against Chinese aggression.
So this thread is based more off partisan tripe than anything else.

I saw a documentary filmed on a British nuclear sub. The young guy driving the sub didn’t have a driver’s licence so he couldn’t drive a car!
Nuclear sub, sure. Ford Escort, nope.

Why would any country invade Australia? And how can nuclear subs stop an invasion?
