Nonsense. The Taliban deal was cemented in 18 months ago, and our Allies like the Brits started base closures already in 2014 when combat operations were officially ended by Obama.

Either way, this new deal proves our relationship with out allies is alive and well. I am sorry if that disappoints you.

Them having nuke subs makes them confident that then are able to defend themselves and also it serves the interests of the US knowing we have a strong, capable and well armed ally in the area in case China acts up.

Guess sales for Rachel Maddow’s custom “Russia Russia Russia” brand tinfoil hats are in a slump, thus creating a excess inventory, which results in specials, and discounts.

On the page now :) .. nuclear energy in general got a bad rap a number of decades ago.. political bandwagon didn't like it. The two cofounders of Greenpeace split over the issue - as one recognized that the only forseeable way to power the world clean was with nuclear - and he was correct.

The bad rap wasn't without reason. Nuclear energy may be "clean," but the waste products are not, and I don't want the waste stored in my state. Three mile island and Chernobyl kinda put a dent in it as well.

"number of soldiers killed because of Trump" - is nonsense .. blame game of previous president "Trump" for past mistakes "prior to Trump" and so on.

20 years and 2 Trillion - and an whole lot more soldiers killed on average than was killed this year - including the withdrawl.

The Islamic State was there when we were there - and is still there now that we are gone .. it just wasn't official before. Thats the trick you see . tell the US you are wanting to embrace democracy - and the throw lots of cash your way. So what you had was a few corrupt leaders (all in league with the Taliban in one form or another) Smiling and taking the cash.

This is just one of many Islamic States we have been setting up - or trying to set up over the last 20 years ... Syria was to be the crowning Jewel but that did not turn out so well .. so I Guess Afghanistan will have to do.

Trump made a deal with the Taliban that we would leave their country if they would just stop attacking us till we did. That is why the number killed was so low in 2020, as in none.

3 mile and Chernobyl had nothing to do with storage of waste .. and we can do this safely - no one is having storage leaks of any significance.

second .. the reactors now are way different than those built 50 years ago.

And good for him - That does not make him responsible for the bungled pull-out. Nor do I give Biden much flack for the deaths. It is stupid on many levels to do so .. moronic the deeper you dig.. Every president makes decisions that get people killed .. and any fool can foretell the past.

I didn't say they had anything to do with waste storage. Storage and a core accident are two different issues.

If they're safe, then why must we ship containers across the country to my state? Bury 'em in your own backyard.

Yes, technology has improved, but I was just referring to the "bad rap."

I can't say I'm keen on the idea of building a bunch of power plants - I honestly think we can build enough renewable capacity here without it. The problem with nuclear is the scale of the potential consequences if you get it wrong. The practical problem in Australia is that weather moves west to east. All the empty bits are west, all the people are east. There is no way a power plant gets built near people, and there is no way one gets built where the weather might carry the consequences of an accident.

However, there is a faction on the right who will do literally anything to avoid building renewables. It is so far beyond reason that they don't care what gets built as long as it is something else. They love the idea of nuclear power.

As for the reactors on subs, no issue there....unless they are Russian boats. ;)

Burying nuclear waste in your back Yard is not safe .. which is why we ship them to your state :)

No, I was explaining why there was so few deaths in the last year plus we were there. People like to point to those numbers and say "see, we did not need to leave, it was safe for us to be there", ignoring why the numbers were that way

Perhaps in Australia - with low population and a whole lot of desert.. but that is rare First world nations in general have decreaesed emmissions over the last 25 years - however .. "Total" emissions hae gone from 22 Billion to 36 Billion tons/yr. This is due to the rapid industrialization of non industrialized populations - China /Asia ..

We industrialized roughly 600 million - 6 Billion left to go. population growing by 1 Billion over that time - grow 2 Billion more by 2020.

So while this would be OK for Australia -- not OK for most of the rest of the Planet.

The Oceans can't take another 25 years like the last 25 without catestrophic damage.

Fair enough - my position is we just needed to be out. Was going to be messy either way - life will go on in Afghanistan. The Sanctions are not helping . that was stupid.. let that nation alone.

Renewables are improving at a rapid rate. We have only just begun to take them seriously. If we put a fraction the effort into them that we put into nuclear way back when we could achieve remarkable results.

So Newson had to spend 276 million of tax payer money to come within 12% of losing the recall vote in a state thats 85% democrat running against a republican radio show host and you thought that was something to brag about?
Not to mention the millions of democrat votes to even host a recall while Newsome campaigned on Elder being the black face of white supremacy.
Thats not a landslide, its actually pretty laughable.
