Junior never had the right to spread a communicable disease.

Sure he did. Everyone has that right, or used to. There were no laws concerning vaccines and masks for the flu, for instance.

Abbott is grandstanding with this bill and he could cost Texas a shot at becoming a significant location for tech cimpanies.

Yes, you can be fired for not getting a flu shot.
    It ends here:

"Federal antidiscrimination laws protect employees from being fired based on certain characteristics, such as race, gender, age, religion, or disability. However, weight is not a protected characteristic under federal law. Right or wrong, this means that employers can legally fire or take other negative actions against employees for being overweight."

He has by his actions facilitated the spread of covid.

Maybe they'll limit travel by Texans to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. :(
At present, it violates the Constitution.

Ummmmmmm, yes it does. First, Biden is flagging posts on social media and reporting them to the various social media platforms. What business does Biden have in doing that?

Second, Biden is mandating vaccines while, at the same time, allowing 80,000 vaccinated people to attend football games, even as the science proves vaccinated people spread the virus.

Texas is 23d in China Virus deaths. Abbott is doing ok with it.... better than some... worse than some. And its not totally controllable anywhere.

The Supreme Court didn't think it violated the Constitution. They thought saying so was frivolous and refused to hear the case.... Deal with it.

One is not knowingly spreading the virus if one doesn't have it. Being unvaccinated is not equivalent to being infected. And vaccinated people can be infected in any case

Yes, I understand the difference, but I made the post to point out there is no right to spread viruses. I said that after you claimed everyone has such right.

And I make the point that being unvaccinated does not spread the virus. You really should advocate quarantines for
the infected regardless of vaccination status if you want to slow the spread.

True everywhere in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, the USA, much of Western Europe.
That's fine, but why the hell do you care that much? And why the hell do anti-gun folks go to the wall over high-capacity magazines?
They established something important. The feds would make fewer laws if they had to enforce them all. Isn't that what you want--fewer federal laws?
Oh, c'mon--you're not the Chamber of Commerce. Texas is 30th on the state tax burden.

    They cut infections.
CRT isn't taught in K-12. It was red meat to the right, just like pipelines are catnip for the left.
You won't like what happens when the feds pull support if the virus is still circulating widely. The economy can't recover fully until the new virus case numbers are way down.
    You're awfully pushy about abortion.
Apparently, women and tech business are souring on Texas because of the abortion law.

I see that the general discussion has headed in another direction but I was attracted to your thread and hoped that you'd clarify your thoughts in # 3 above because it sounds like you're supporting censorship.

Isn't that really what "moderation" is?

By the way, I'm neither Republican nor Democrat.

    Thanks,

Abbot sometimes does dumb things. I prefer Allen West. He supports using other platforms instead of making it easier for people to sell themselves to technology from the Social Authoritarian State of California and their Silicon Valley masters.

They're at least five times less likely to get covid and therefore at least fives times less likely to infect others. That helps cut the transmission rate and the number of new cases.

I think you should review the federal government powers. You can quarantine people if you don't know whether they have a disease.

The internet makes it difficult for powerful people to suppress ideas they dislike and facts they want hidden. It also makes it possible for demagogues to spread lies many people want to believe. I do not know how it is possible to suppress the lies of demagogues without also suppressing truths that are threatening to the rich and powerful.

Any capitalist and/or conservative would support using other platforms rather than using authoritarian measures to force private companies to make their property freely available to ruling party politicians.

That's just not true. The vaccinated can spread Covid without actually having Covid symptoms.

    Check these numbers:

British Columbia - 1,877 covid deaths, 5.1m people
    Oregon - 3,548 deaths, 4.3m people
    Texas - 61,670 covid deaths, 29.2m people

I live part of the year in Oregon, part in British Columbia. In BC, schools have been open full-time since June, 2020, and there have never been any lockdowns. Vaccines in BC were in short supply until last June because the Canadian federal government was slow in securing supply (thanks to "Trendy" PM Trudeau), but now that's finished and BC has 78.8% are fully vaccinated. Texas has just 49.4% fully vaccinated.

Texas' bad situation and low vaccination rate is the responsibility of Abbot's failed leadership.
SCOTUS let the law stand while it decides if the law is constitutional. There is no thought the case on either side is "frivolous."
