The latest flag controversy. It was only a matter of time before something like this would happen. Even more unsurprising this is happening in Oregon:

Disagree. The American flag is not a political symbol, it’s a symbol of America.

Interesting that the people she supports commit most of the violence.

It's fine for her to hold that view, but to illegitimately impose it on our children is more of the National Socialist Dictatorial Authoritarian impulse we see more and more from the Left. She needs immediately corrective action with a clear message delivered that anymore issues like this will result in termination.

And I disagree with that. The American flag is indeed a political symbol. To require people to display that flag while refusing to allow others is a political act.

Having said that, the idea of keeping politics out of the classroom is really important, and should be supported.

Why require any flags in the classroom? If she chose not to display it, why is that a problem?

Well long as they are still teaching boys to be girls and girls to be boy, then the west coast is still functioning normally ;)

Ah.. what political party is the American flag associated with?

Funny how other nations find the American flag a symbol of freedom and principle, yet our own citizens find it disturbing. I'd surely be willing to swap out those who that find our flag as a symbol of violence and bring in those immigrants that find our flag as a great thing!

Okay, but why should we require the American flag to be in the classroom?

I respect her opinion and fully support her decision to rid herself of the images she finds offensive, including the money she receives from those the flag represents. She did shop accepting a paycheck, right?

The flag is a sign of American unity. It represents the 50 states of America as a united whole. The kids in Oregon should see themselves united with the people of Texas, Maine, and Hawaii. The flag is stitched onto sports uniforms and football helmets. The flag is not political, it's a unified collection of the states of America.

Okay, but again, why require the flag to be there? Doesn't it represent all that stuff even if it's not in a classroom?

The better question is why have public schools. It is insane for conservative Americans to pay taxes that are used to teach their children to hate them, hate their race/culture and hate this country. This is taxation without representation..... WE FOUGHT A BLOODY WAR OVER EXACTLY THIS!

All I'm trying to do is to understand whether there is a valid reason why the flag should be required. I understand all the patriotism, but if it's a requirement it seems a bit more political than patriotic.
Can anyone say why it should be required?

    It's required by Oregon Law.

    https://katu.com/news/local/bill-requires-american-flag-in-all-oregon-classrooms-11-19-2015

The Oregon House overwhelmingly passed this by a 51-6 vote and the Gov signed it into law.
It's an unjust exercise of authority by her. It is our duty as a Free People to effectively oppose all illegitimate and unjust exercises of authority by government as the Freedom and Liberty we inherited from those that went before us, we pass (while hopefully using our time to make more perfect) to those that follow us.

Patriotism is a good thing. It's the one thing that can unite everyone in America. But sure. Let's have some childish bitch push her personal opinion to her class. Sounds great.

What’s a good reason for having it removed? Dang, we have gay pride and blm flags flying at our embassies and they don’t represent all Americans.

But good reasons for having the flag in the classroom are patriotism, unity, it represents what we fought for and who we are, tradition, values and a reminder to foreigners and certain teachers what country they live in and who gave them that opportunity.

As a Free People, our laws bind our conscience, we are not bound by force because the legitimate power of government is only what we corporately consent to. In our system, government has no other legitimate power.

So long as our constitutional processes were followed, our laws are legitimate and bind our conscience. The law requiring the American flag passed the duly elected and sworn Oregon House, was signed into law by the duly elected and sworn Governor and has not been invalidated by the duly appointed and sworn Judiciary. As such it binds the teacher's conscience. Now, she as a free will human being may view the flag as illegitimate and profane, and we would never compel her to remain in a job that forced her to violate her conscience, but, she has no legitimate authority to remove the flag from the classroom even though she finds it repulsive. She is certainly free to leave the flag and remove herself.

It it were up to me to handle, I would explain her legitimate choices to her via corrective action and allow her to make her own decision on whether or not she remains in the classroom. Though she should, she very likely does not understand the American system of government, and this is an opportunity to clearly explain it to her.

Yes, the teacher is not the only person in that classroom whose opinion matters.
