Jack has vast actual hands on experience in matters like this.
All I bring to the table is a pretty extensive knowledge of 1. wars 2, politics 3 details of our wars including WW2 forward, the Civil War and some foreign wars. Such as Alexander the Greats wars.

We should, in my amateur opinion have secured things.
    And ensured they remained secure.
We have had 76 years of Securing both Germany and Japan. We have secured Korea since 1950. 71 years in fact.
So since we are the force securing the world, if not in heart by we civilians, by our acts as a Government, we should have immediately brought hell on the Taliban when they clearly started taking even one city we had won previously.
Bagram should have been their worst enemy.

What part of Russia or Afghanistan did we use nuclear bombs on?
Russia was open in trying to defeat the Taliban. A lot happens in the world that is covert. Yes Reagan did topple the USSR.

Just partisan politics - governing is not politically expedient for the party bosses.

"Today, I think the attitude is that governing is not necessarily good politics, and the result is that it's much more partisan and much more divided." Leon Panetta

Not that it displeases me, but Washington fought the then legal Government of the area we call the USA.

George fought a genuine civil war.

I was about to be sworn in as a Director of the CA Association of Realtors at Monterey CA when Leon Panetta was the featured speaker. He seemed less a Democrat then than a Statesman. I am not persuaded he is a loyal Democrat. I think he could be classified as independent .

And toppling the USSR was a good thing for the world, and especially for Russia.

Yes that is true. Russia today is modern but under Communism it was not modern.

I watched the hearings, still am, I did not see or hear anything that supports your claim that dispels this:

I wish I could help you focus.
To help you, what was the Milley advice to Trump? Compare that to his claims of what he said to Biden.

Ahh, a childish ad hom with a sidestep to a weak distraction. Vintage, but thanks for the defacto confirmation.

Here again this is a thing I am expert about. You are correct. We were flying to the Tempelhof Airport then in Berlin flights of supplies to keep the citizens left in Berlin alive. The airplanes then were almost all DC-3 but Frankfurt Airport was only about an hour away. So we could pour the heat to the Communists trying to suffocate the Germans in Berlin.

I myself have arrived and departed from Tempelhof perhaps 6 times and departed and arrived at Rhein Main Airport in Frankfurt.
It was marvelous the way the pilots dropped stuff to the children from their window.

Tempelhof was a large field constructed by Hitler's forces. It was not only expansive but had I believe 7 floors from top to bottom. Russians drowned German troops at the close of the war in the buildings there.

Good example of his own description. :above::above::above:

He asked a question. To help him. I asked some of him. And he is upset.

US hostilities, mainly via support to friendly Afghan forces, should be continuing now and into the foreseeable future.

We paid for the place so we should still own it. It helped the mom and pop living in Afghanistan.

Democrats love to call Trump wrong. And in this case they would be correct to call Trump wrong for his part in this lousy deal that Biden carried out.

Totally expected when asked for a confirmation of a false statement. Understandable.

Lol...what a quandary for you people, eh?
On the one hand, you want to believe him about Biden so you can bash the potus.
On the other hand, you want to execute him for treason because he was worried about trump betraying our country.

That's ridiculous to me though. So we're going to have a contingency, in the forseeable future, to uphold a government that isn't viewed strongly by its own populace and can't even defend itself through a civil war(because let's face it, that's what the Taliban is.)

It's nuts, not even a single life is worth that strategically.

If you believe it is false, document that.

I did not ask you to ask for confirmation. I did try to help you. And you got angry.

Um, I'm not understanding the point of your comment. If the point is that I'm just one dude on the planet, then yeah no **** sherlock, I'm one dude. If your other point is that we can absorb the blow, maybe we can but that doesn't make it smart to do so.

I never get angry, that's likely projection since you made a statement about what Milley said to another poster that you have been unable to support when asked.

Panetta knows how the game is played, and is willing to share a nugget of ugly truth when it suits him - which is unusual for a pro.

“In recent years, despite thousands of bills introduced into Congress every year, only a small percentage (approximately 5%) become law. Of course, what matters for laws is quality not quantity. But why would legislators bother to introduce so many hopeless bills? What if they are not even designed to pass? What if they are instead designed to make money? The cold harsh reality in Washington is this: the very conditions that are so maddening for most Americans —gridlock, problems being ignored, hyper partisanship — are the very conditions that are most lucrative for the Permanent Political Class. Washington may not be working for citizens, but it's working quite well for members of the Permanent Political Class who profit handsomely.” EXTORTION, "How Politicians Extract Your money, BuyVotes, And Line Their Own Pockets, Peter Schweizer, HMO, NY, NY, 2013, p. 7, 8.

I doubt that Panetta would disagree if he was sure he was off the record. ;-)
