Trump drops off Forbes list of America's richest people for the first time in 25 year

Most politicians leverage the fame that comes with their elected positions to earn money through things like books and speaking engagements. To put it bluntly, famous people can use their high profiles to get rich. And politicians become famous by being elected.
Donny did it the other way around. He used his fortune to become famous and his fame as a platform to get elected.
None of that makes him bad.

What indicates that he is corrupt is that he used his elected position to direct federal taxpayer money into his own pocket. Any other federal employee would be committing a felony by doing what he did. There is no doubt that what he did was corrupt.

The fact that it didn’t work out for him doesn’t change the fact that it was corrupt. It just means he failed at achieving a net enrichment.

Then he cried about election fraud, raised $200 million to fight election fraud and spent very little of it fighting election fraud instead pocketing the for private airplanes. I seem to recall Arizona GOP begging private donors to fund the audit. Where was Trump with the $$$$?

if Biden bought a golf resort and did this, sure you would see why it was wrong

 

The issue was not trump going golfing — which he did almost 1/5 of his presidency which is unheard of — was at his own private resorts and not Camp David which is secured. His companies made money from rentals and lodging every time he went golfing which is not true of any other president.

No one has an issue paying for presidential down time as long as it isn’t excessive or overly luxurious. We do have an issue with one funneling money into their own organization. So it was both excessive and profiteering.

 

Every time he visited one of his resorts, the taxpayer paid for rooms, meals, golf carts etc for secret service and WH staff and guests, at commercial rates.

He had the government donate what they would have paid him (a key distinction) to avoid receiving a clear line of income for tax purposes. Like a lot of very wealthy people, Trump almost certainly has his finances arranged so that his day-to-day expenses are covered by capital gains rather than income because that can massively reduce taxes. In simple terms, capital gains tax rates are a function of income so if you have (or can declare) low to zero income, you end up paying very low capital gains tax.

 

And if he had gone to other resorts, it wouldn’t have been corruption. It would have been an excessive amount of golf, but not corruption.

Instead, he funnelled taxpayer dollars into his own pocket. That’s corruption.

It would have been so easy for him to avoid any hint of corruption by saying that, while he was president, his businesses would not accept a single dollar from the federal government. But he didn’t. Because he is corrupt.
