Biden admin considering shutting down another pipeline, drawing criticism and dire warnings as winter nears

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-considering-shutting-down-michigan-pipeline

    HYPERLINK has full article

    snip

The Biden administration is reportedly weighing the potential market consequences of shutting down an oil pipeline in Michigan,.......................................

Line 5 is part of a network that moves crude oil and other petroleum products from western Canada, transporting about 540,000 barrels per day. Petroleum is taken from the pipeline in Escanaba, Michigan

Jason Hayes, the director of environmental policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, blasted the Biden administration for its energy policies, telling Fox News that their work on Line 5 is "just one more example of being divorced from reality."

"They're planning to power an industrial nation like the United States on solar panels and wind turbines," Hayes said, while noting that even the solar panels and wind turbines require "oil, natural gas, nuclear and even coal" to be produced.

    end snip

during the previous administration all that we heard was Orange man bad....

But, we had plentiful and affordable energy, vaccine production given warp speed, a robust economy (til statists shut down economies)

Now we have Democrats in DC doing everything they can to harm the common folk.

Were Democrat voters blind to how bad things are when there is full Democrat control? Is voting Democrat too important to them to even realize what it does to the nation.

I can't imagine one Democrat voter who thinks paying 2-3x more for energy is a good thing

He's in a tough spot. On one side is the opinion of people like yourself, wanting more affordable energy. On the other there are groups who are concerned about the environment, after they've already experienced a 800 gallon spill when a tug boat's anchor struck and dented line 5. There are also indigenous treaties to be considered. This isn't a 'cut and dried' issue and Biden will be forced to take a side - especially after his participation last week in discussions surrounding the environment.

Democrats want you to know that they will NOT raise taxes on anyone making less than 400K, anyone, well except for the ones who do wind up paying more taxes. And, they want you to know that everyone making more than 400K will be paying more taxes, everyone, well except for those who benefit from eliminating the cap on SALT deductions. Inflation? Well that has nothing to do with Democratic policies including taxes so if the poor wind up paying more for everything, you've just got to remember, we're only raising taxes on those earning more than 400K. We can't do anything about inflation and it's only temporary anyway.

It comes down to what is the role of the Fed Govt? Is it to appease the environmentalists and the donors who make money from inefficient, alternative energy?

Do you make a policy because of 1 accident?

Democrat voters knew that a Democrat vote would mean inflation and higher costs and misery for all. If they did not know that, where have they been?

Actually, I do see it as the federal government's job to protect our environment. And part of the reason for my vote was to see advancement in alternative energy resources. I look beyond tomorrow, next week and next year.

Policy doesn't get made over 1 accident but it does provide good cover for pushing forth hurtful policies.

Your Democrat vote hurt the common folk but you seem to be OK with that.

I gave an example of what actually happened in that region, but there are plenty others as you know.

The Dems are trying to drag our country into the future, with Reps kicking and screaming the whole way. As I already said, I'm looking to the future - not just worried about my own little life.

it is not the role of the government to cripple an energy source. When inefficient alternative energy sources become viable, the market will choose them

Hurting folks who heat with oil in the northeast doesn't make them able to switch to solar when it's cloudy most of the winter; and they don't have the money

Please tell me how it's good for Mr and Mrs common folk to pay an extra $2,000 per winter to heat their home

it is the governments role to keep people safe. Climate change and other environmental problems are our biggest threats today. Shut down the pipeline, subsidize alternate forms of energy. Also subsidize energy costs for the common folk by making the wealthy and fossil fuel corporations foot the bill. That will give them further incentive to get alternate forms of energy in place. If they don’t want to make the transformation, there are others who will. We need all forms of alternate energy in place, from various green methods to nuclear, to hold us over until fusion becomes feasible.

Switching energy sources is not cut and dried, and I am aware of the challenges. But shall we remain in the dark ages (no pun intended) because so many are dependent upon old ways? There are many federal programs designed to assist home owners looking for financial help in making their homes more efficient. And, perhaps, with the branching off into new areas of energy, they can find good paying jobs.

I'm not suggesting that this is a perfect solution - but I am looking at the future. We need to have a long and hard look at where we want to be and design a realistic transition plan for the families impacted. I'm not an environmental or energy specialist, but in all I read, the solution to affordable and renewable energies is found in innovation and competition.

the first bold is simply your opinion to which you are entitled

as for the 2nd bold, do you not understand Democrat trickle-down taxes? It's always the common folk who are hurt by your Democrat vote. You really need to turn off NPR etc

Biden said in the debates he would slowly end the oil industry and he and Kamala both said they would end tracking so I am not suprised.

I’ve never voted for a democrat. But I also know republicans are as full of **** as Democrats are when it comes to real change. Both are entrenched in the status quo, in a BS system where money is extracted from the poor to make the rich and powerful even more so.

Why it will be good for the environment and security to let them people on the upper peninsula freeze to death this winter. They are all conservative proud boy incel militia types anyway. :alcoholic:

Poor Joe is gonna have to choose between the Odawa Indians and the American people in a swing state. Hope the stress of thinking on this one doesn't cause him to have another stroke.

Of course it is a small amount - I was suggesting it was a big event. Just pointing out that it has already happened with a dented pipe. And the lakes don't have the vastness of the ocean - one small leak could be disastrous.

The questions are simple right, if pipelines are bad and lead to more fossil fuels being used which lead to climate change why did Biden sign off on the Russian pipeline? Why was it a good deal to become energy dependent again? Why are you asking opac to produce more oil if you think it really leads to those things. The last question is are batteries really a net fossil fuel decrease considering the intense mfg process, mining and the issue with where and how do we trash the corrosive things?

Let's assume for a moment that all vehicles in the nation are electric. In addition to that all buildings are run on renewables.

Do you think that will be the end of oil usage? Or drilling? Or fracking? Those should be rhetorical questions because the answer is "no".

The technological society that we live in demands oil use far and beyond heating and driving. Oil is in pretty much everything that we use today. From cellphones to doctors syringes to even the computer that you're using to post on this forum.

The use of oil is not going away anytime in the next century at the very least.

Also, they're talking about an already established pipeline that is in full use. Anything having to do with NA has already been handled...if there even was anything to handle in the first place.

we tend to agree on several things but I must vehemently disagree with you on this

As we saw in the last election, there is nothing democratic about the Democrat party

    It's the Democrat party

Very simple, ask someone if they are
    Independent
    Republican
    Democrat

Of course it's Democrat, not democratic

    Who is "we"?

The 20% of America who actually believe Mike Lindell's Fairy Tales?

    Cool.:bored:

Anyway, regardless of how anyone feels about inflation:
Nobody really knows where it is going to end up.
    Only time will tell.
    With the Pipeline?
    We'll see what happens.

Hey, we agree about the national election. Instead of whining about things, the GOP simply needs to have more dead and illegals vote than the Democrats have.

Step up to the challenge tossed down by the Democrat party with respect to getting the dead out to vote or, step aside.

You know, you do have a point.

A good first step for the GOP (right along with MT Greene's Outreach to the Black Community by embracing Farrakhan and Islam) would be this:

Instead of the GOP whining about the "flood of Immigrants", why not just make lemonade out of the lemons?

Embrace these people, move them to swing states, register them as Republicans and get them to vote 10 times each.
Sounds like a good plan to be in place (for the GOP) by 2024.
