there may be some truth in this statement. The younger generation is the generation that will start a civil uprising. The left has terrorist tendencies in some cases as well so I wouldn’t be surprised. The rift between left and right has not been this wide in my lifetime anyway.

Revolutions doesn't automatically means violence. Here, were I live, we had ine the 60's what is called "the tranquil revolution". We started rejecting the federalist and anglos and instead took back the control of the province by electing french nationalist instead. We totally reformed our democracy and government in a peaceful way. Your main problem is that you are stuck with two old and quite corrupt political parties.

    There was also sexual revolution.
They spelled revolution as 'revolution' to indicate that is does not mean revolution as in people trying to violently overthrow a government.

I believe the Senator is incorrect. I don't think that there will be a revolution over abortion rights.
I do think that there will be more people dying and more unwanted children if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

IMO the abortion issue should be left to the States to decide.

Part of me actually hopes that SCOTUS strikes it down. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the dog caught the car. I don't think it would turn out like the GQP thinks it will.

Overturning RvW is not the same as outlawing abortion, it's moving the decision back to the states. In that event, I think it would form a greater rift between liberal and conservative states, and the whole "I would never live in, work in, travel to, or do business in" a conservative state would become more of a reality. It would move us closer to forming two nations, but I don't think it would be outright revolution on its own.

A revolution? is that anything like an insurrection? Sounds like an insurrection to me.

I can understand the Senators concern here, if it's overturned Congress would have to do their job and pass a real amendment making it a right. The word work to a Legislature is the same as a cross to a vampire, can't touch it.

you mean a normal tour of the supreme court?

but I think what it would mean is both sides packing the courts when in power and laws will swing back and forth going forward

republicans have had the majority in the SC for ages, they got greedy and now may lose that control

I don't know. I think blue States would start seeing more women driving cars with Texas & Florida plates.

Yes indeed. A Republican majority is how we got RvW in the first place.

It's becoming too common for leftists to demand the judicial outcome they want to see rather than a fair hearing and process in accordance with our established laws. They are literally advocating for mob rule over the rule of law.

Nothin like a little hyperbole with your daily constitutional post... If the court choses to overturn the precedent, it will have acted in the same way things like Dredd Scott were addressed. Making the federal government an agent of mischief certainly seems to have soured large portions of the nation against the Berger court for sure.

But think about it this way. Almost every country in the world bans abortion after 15 weeks. The question is why progressives feel the need to defend more time. Is it as smarmy as they want to harvest the organs as Planned Parenthood ostensibly does? I wouldn't put anything past those acolytes of horror. Roberts does seem to be searching for a way to perhaps keep Roe but establish a more normative standard for when abortion becomes murder. And let us not forget that this is what we are discussing here.

So, perhaps the review is timely and necessary in order to not see the nation devolve into the horror you describe, and instead come together in the promise of an actually humane or reasonable compromise that allows women the ability to chose, but creates a viability standard that protects the future life that we value in society.

So you hop over the border for an abortion?

You can go to a State which allows it.

Even better if they use contraceptives which prevent unplanned pregnancies in the first place. Getting the government involved in making the decision won't help, as can be seen in nations with strict laws against abortions (they dont have any less abortions).

That was the status quo before RvW, but I don't think we're going back to that.

I doubt it, but we'll see.

Lot of evangelicals might not vote GOP after that wedge issue is taken off the table, because many are single issue voters. They might not vote at all.

That's possible. There is a section of anti abortion voters who ONLY care about abortion and really nothing else politically. I recall seeing in the comments of some article years ago someone saying that they would vote in a communist government if it banned abortion.

If abortion was no longer a national political issue, we would I believe, have a healthier polity, but also a whole class of voters might just drop out.

You're right that the crux of the issue is when it becomes murder. Tying this to a heartrate, as in Texas, is insane because the heart is just a pump - a vital tool but just a tool. Personhood lies in the mind. A recent (and unconvincing) dissent notwithstanding, the scientific consensus is that a mind cannot exist before about 21 weeks at the earliest. Viability is about 23 weeks. So the precedent of RvW sets the limit approximately where it should be, albeit perhaps for the wrong reasons. Other nations have it at 15 weeks? Okay. But it's illogical unless it's just a compromise between reality and conservative values.

The hyperbolic part of my post is about forming two nations. Maybe it's wishful thinking. I think Lincoln got it wrong when he waged war to keep us as one nation. I don't want to see people die to make two nations, but I think we'd be better off separating into conservative and liberal nations, and striking down RvW would move us closer to that given states can't even agree on whether it's murder, and there will be measures and countermeasures to people going across state lines to get around the local law.

Of course if Roe is overturned it would be up to Congress, where it belonged in the first place, to make law.

I can't understand why you said that there would be more unwanted children, when there aren't enough for adoption now?

Anyway I think there should be time limits on when an abortion can be performed, so maybe it should be overturned and a new law put in its place.

Can you imagine having a revolution for the right to kill unborn babies? Our Founding Fathers would be turning in their graves. It shows how ridiculous our society has become.
