The administration seems to be flip flopping on the Taiwan issue. Biden
said the U.S. has a solid commitment to defend Taiwan against a china
invasion, and then the next day his staff walked the statement back.
    Now this:
    >
    > SINGAPORE, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Threats and coercion by China towards
    > Taiwan increase the need for the United States to help Taiwan maintain
    > a credible self-defense, the top U.S. diplomat for Asia said on Thursday.
    >
    > Assistant Secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel
    > Kritenbrink, speaking in Singapore during a visit to Southeast Asia,
    > said the U.S. has a rock solid commitment to assist Taiwan.
    >
    > "As the threat and coercion from the People's Republic of China
    > increases, I think we need to respond as well in an appropriate way,"
    > Kritenbrink told reporters in Singapore, specifically citing support
    > over self-defence and trade.
    >
    > "We intend to live up to our obligations, our rock solid obligations
    > and commitments," he added.
    >
I think the U.S. policy can best be described as "strategic confusion."

I don’t think there’s a chance in the world this administration would offer any meaningful opposition if China invaded Taiwan. Maybe a strongly worded diplomatic notice with lots of capital letters and punctuation marks.

I guess it is a good thing China doesn't believe that, then.

So, you know what China believes then? I’d be interested to know your inside source of information.

If they thought that they'd only get meanie head letters if they invaded Taiwan, they would have already invaded Taiwan.

By the way, I thought you guys believed that China owns Biden. For someone owned by China, he certainly doesn't mind pissing them off.

Absolutely. After Biden's cowardly abandonment of Afghanistan its hard to understand how ANY of our allies would believe we'd lift a finger to help them. In Afghanistan we wouldn't even help our own citizens that we left helpless there.

Cowardly abandonment? He was going with the deal that TRUMP had made with the Taliban.

Sorry, Trump's deal ended when the "quid pro quo" was never met. This was all Biden. He changed the departure date, then ordered our forces to sneak out of an airfield in the dead of night and, finally, after promising no Americans would be left behind, he killed 13 and left hundreds behind.

That is not true. You cannot prove that because he never said it... but we'll wait if you want to try.

    @AARguy

    2 months before the withdrawal:

" . . . by the way, I started the process. All the troops are coming back home. They couldn't stop the process. 21 years is enough. Don't we think? 21 years. They couldn't stop the process. They wanted to, but it was very tough to stop the process . . . by a government that wouldn't last. The only way they last is if we're there. What are we going to stay? We're going to stay for another 21 years, then we'll stay for another 50? The whole thing is ridiculous. So we're bringing our troops back home from Iraq. We're bringing troops back home from Afghanistan." - Donald Trump

Keep in mind, this was a deal Trump struck with the Taliban alone. He didn't involve the Afghan government in the deal. He negotiated for the release of thousands of Taliban soldiers, including the leaders of this takeover. A takeover that he acknowledged would happen if his deal went through.

"Our secretary of State signed a surrender agreement with the Taliban" - Trump national security adviser H.R. McMaster

After the withdrawal, Trump and the GOP revealed their guilt by quietly trying to remove all mention of Trump's Taliban deal from their websites. I'm pretty sure the press release about the agreement is the only press release Trump has issued that you can no longer find on his website. Wonder why?

Can't wait for you to shift the goalposts. This will be entertaining.

Wow... where do I start? McMaster never said that. I know him. He would never admit we surrendered to anyone. Please try to tell the truth... and if you aren't sure... please provide a link to a reliable source.

Trump DID start the process... which included Quid Pro Quo... things like ceasefires... and not supporting ISIS... things which never happened so the deal was off. Biden picked a NEW withdrawal date and stuck with it no matter what happened. Its all on Biden.

I am absolutely sure. It's your word versus his. Who do I believe? You are literally claiming you know him better than he knows himself. Dude, he said a lot more than that, and it was all recorded. He also said, "This collapse goes back to the capitulation agreement of 2020. The Taliban didn't defeat us. We defeated ourselves." Don't accuse people of lying without checking your facts.

You can listen to the entire interview here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...with-hr-mcmaster/id1570872415?i=1000532434236

Then why did he say that the process couldn't be stopped and that it was still going to happen?

Obviously it didn't happen. Biden changed the departure date... and STILL left Americans behind.

I think it would be beneficial if you posted the 'walk back' for the sake of discussion.

Well, at least we can agree with H.R. McMaster, that this was all due to the surrender and capitulation agreement that Trump had with the Taliban.

Wow, so that’s the one thing Trump started Biden couldn’t change? The bottom line is Trump got many things right in his 4 years in office despite his disgusting personality, while Biden hasn’t gotten anything right in his 40 years in Congress.
