New York Attorney General Letitia James is seeking a deposition from former president Donald Trump early next year as part of her investigation into potential fraud inside the Trump Organization, according to people familiar with the matter. James has requested to take his testimony on Jan. 7 at her New York office as part of a civil investigation into whether Trump’s company committed financial fraud in the valuations of properties to different entities, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the inquiry is ongoing. One of the people familiar with the investigation said James is examining whether widespread fraud “permeated the Trump Organization.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...b10140-587f-11ec-a219-9b4ae96da3b7_story.html I'm sure he'll comply (wink). Cuz if there's one thing we know about Don it's he always is willing to cooperate with investigations of his potential criminal behavior (wink). Like he did in the Mueller investigation when he...........wait...........refused to testify under oath. But all the other.........wait...........he stonewalled all the other investigations too. So did some of those in his inner circle. Not that they had anything to hide (wink).
I still remember reading his quote about "truthful hyperbole" in The Art of the Deal. I thought to myself at the time, "Well, he can do that with the public, but if he ever does that with any kind of stakeholder or business partner, that's fraud." It certainly looks, so far, like this is what happened.
It didn't take long for Trump to sue AG James to stop the investigation given the prospect of having to testify under oath must scare him to death. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/20/tru...ral-letitia-james-to-block-company-probe.html
His only legal game, throughout his life, has been to either run out the clock or make his opponent run out of money. I don't think either is going to work out here.
The Latest: New York appeals court rules Trump, Ivanka and Don Jr. must sit for depositions https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/26/politics/donald-trump-depositions/index.html
Is this the same NY AG that couldn't find enough evidence to even convene a grand jury for an indictment to which the two lead attorneys quit their job over it? Hilarious
Are there Trump supporters who believe that the reason Trump refuses to sit for any deposition and to cooperate with investigations is because he's innocent?
That's good news, thanks for the post. Encouraging to see most courts are still following the law. This is such an unambiguous matter the next appellate court should refuse to hear the case.
Probably getting ready to "Pull an Eric": Eric Trump was previously deposed by the New York attorney general's office and declined to answer questions, asserting his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 500 times.
If there's anything in life that can be counted on it's a Trump refusing to cooperate with a criminal investigation.
NY AG seeks Trump’s deposition as part of civil fraud investigation She gets credit for her persistence.
