Trump's legal strategy is completely bonkers. There's a very clear, overreaching 4th Amendment argument to be made. These documents are not being seized in conjunction with a search warrant.(Be it Trump's or Jordan's or anyone else.) Indeed, I feel the subpoena power is being grossly abused relative to constitutional protections. What this 'committee' asserts, and what the courts have failed to prevent is that so long as they can state a legislative purpose(they don't have to act on it, or even have the intention of acting on it. They just have to state the claim.) Which is absurd, there's no power in America that can be invoked upon simply saying it. I've always felt the SC's ruling in regards to legislative purpose was overly broad and unconstitutional, as it was a power not even granted to the Courts.(Warrants have probable cause for example as a limiter.) The Congress has no limits under the court's interpretations.

Furthermore, the Court always veers on the side of what 'causes the least harm', but there is no retroactive way to repair the harm to the litigants, as the courts themselves acknowledged in this case. Once this kangaroo court engages in its public smearing, the damage will be done(with no legislative feat.). I pose the question to the court: Is the court prepared to hand a punishment to the committee in absence of any legislation? Or let me guess, a meeting itself would suffice?

So the next time you hear a democrat scream 'Trump'. Right now, legally, the legislature is the most powerful body in America. And that's not the way it was meant to go. There's no checks and balances on this legislature, Trump isn't making the proper arguments to restore any sort of checks and balances and so it's kind of on him what he's dealt with as a result, but more importantly this all-powerful god legislature can easily bare its fangs on us.

Democrats every time someone says Congress critters can read a few hundred pages of inconsequential text that has already been reviewed by a dozen government bodies and agencies include the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA:

You're laboring under a mistaken understanding of the situation here.

No one was requesting a blanket waiver of Trump's executive privilege, giving them access to all his records, because you're correct - that's not how it works. By law, and supported by prior rulings, the incumbent president can waive the privilege for specific documents in certain situations. And that's exactly what was happening here. It ended up in court because Trump is being Trump - as ever, thinking that the law doesn't apply to him.

There is more of a burden of proof to the right of self defense, then the courts have allowed in the illicit access to documents under Congressional subpoena. It's half assed backwards, and if an argument could be posed without the money of lawyers I'd be right there to bring the argument to this supreme court. Why is there a greater burden to proving self defense, then there is in asserting 4th Amendment privileges if an 'interested party'(ie: Congress) wants documents without a criminal investigation? Hm, care to answer SCOTUS?

Someone floated a thought on Levin's show that, strategically speaking, getting a ruling on this case now would hasten the process by which a potential future Republican Congress could go after all sorts of Biden (and even Obama) White House records and that Trump just might be playing his role in achieving that ruling now. It is some big brain long game **** but we know Trump has played that way before. I mean clearly there is no silver bullet here and the Dems know it, but they also know they can use a few pieces of paper to fabricate connections that don't exist in order to sell the 6-Jan conspiracy lie they've been pushing since 7-Jan. I wonder if, in their bloodthirsty rampage for these small gains, do they realize how exposed they've left themselves.

I didn't really pick up on this fact, until yesterday

    SNIP
Still, the high court noted that because the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found Trump's privilege clams would have failed even if he were the incumbent president, "his status as a former president necessarily made no difference to the court's decision."
    ENDSNIP

So basically, this is the court saying documents around 1/6 are more important than EP, regardless of whether it's a current or former making the claim.

I find that a powerful statement about 1/6...

You aren't interested in a logical constructive conversation. Let's be honest.

The left has been on a Trump witchhunt since before he took office. Every fabricated atrocity has been largely nothing burgers with no evidence behind it. But here we go again... another attempt. It's political hackary at every step, but maybe this time you'll get him for a parking violation.

Lol. Because the left has yet to prove guilt anywhere near the claims of wrong doing. It's more than a year after his presidency, and STILL the witchhunt continues.

Let me flip that. What in God's name makes the left absolutley lose their marbles over this guy? I mean, the vile hatred, condemnation, witchhunt for anything to string him up by the neck.

    It's craziness. Absolutely crazy.

I find it a massive breach of the 4th Amendment. Especially should the documents reveal nothing of substance, the next thing that should be sued is the supreme court itself for violation of the same.

    You are victims.

    How sad.

You MAGA's who never had anything slanderous to say about Biden.

And then we could feel your enormous discomfort when Trump tried to blackmail Zelensky.

I'm sure you were disappointed when Trump was acquitted by the Senate.

Trump looses bid to keep records from the 1/6 committee

LOL... what the documents reveal or don't reveal matters not... As long as they are related to the request of the 1/6 committee (everybody agrees) and don't reveal National Security secrets (Biden agrees), we are good to go...

This SCOTUS is useless, but even they couldn't drop this popup (except for one extremely lost old man)

A claim hoisted by the House that it itself could never substantiate(not even with that guy's book. i can't even remember his name because neo-cons generally are forgettable people.). We seem to continually be demonized with these outlandish and preposterous accusations.

Ah 4th Amendment, we'll miss you. It was fun buddy, but warrants are no longer required for searches and seizures. The legislature isn't even a law enforcement body!

    Let me lighten your burden.

Since using a foreign head of state to obtain damaging information about a political opponent is now permissible, you'll be fine with Biden using this method against the next GOP candidate.

    No ?

Funny, can you not remember some GOP saying the House proved their case, but that impeachment wasn't the solution??

I do... because it was such an odd stance to take.....here's just the first I found...

    https://www.axios.com/trump-impeach...der-dab4c5f7-f99c-4151-ae04-836f0a502662.html

How does our country hope to survive when people cannot remember events from less than 2 years ago??

John "I am the Walrus" Bolton, BTW... and he should have TESTIFIED instead of trying to make money with his poorly written book (that I couldn't make it past page 40)...

If said damaging information exists, we have the right to know. I held that same position towards the wikileaks thing. It actually speaks to the health of the country that if information exists, we'll sooner learn of it from a foreign body than we would our own legislature. That doesn't mean I want it released illegally, it means that we should have higher expectations of our representatives than that.

Reading that quote again in full, that Alexander viewed it(and I agree) as far from high crimes and misdemeanors. Not only that however, but in my nationalist view: That money should never have been appropriated out to begin with. There's no greater fraud perpetuated by the US Senate(see: The covid bills) than the foreign money. 25 million for social studies, remember that?

Likewise, Ukrainian defense has absolutely ZERO baring on the US. There's not a lawmaker alive, then or now who could describe the benefit. And if one says to 'counter' Russia, you see how well that's going right now. Trump did us a favor by withholding it, he should've completely rescinded it, saying the House betrayed its obligations by giving monetary aid to a foreign country.

Also I remember the saga, I just don't remember John Bolton's name. Again, nor do I care to remember. Neo-cons are just not interesting people. Besides, I hear covid even in asymptomatic cases creates brain fog, so who knows maybe I'm an asymptomatic case.

T**** could have tried to do either legally and above board.... he didn't...

Yes, we might see very soon how firm our obligation to Ukraine is, but all in all, I don't think it's a good idea to let Russia (or anybody) invade a country with no attempt to stop them or repercussions... I'm funny that way...

Not too long ago, trump supporters joked about being tired of wimning.

It is about time his supporters actually see the criminal he is.

I don't view us as the world's police(in fact, we just got done that with Afghanistan.) We have no interests in Eastern Europe. In fact, the framers themselves if they could be revived would go "WTF?". If we're going to go this route, then at least make Ukraine a US State, so as to have some meat in the game.(I think we should do the same with Hong Kong, in fact that'll be easier though it'll bring us in direct conflict with China.)

Instead, we have these quasi proxy states(be it the neo-nazis of Ukraine) or insert any other failed proxy state that created al-qaeda, resistance fighters, etc. Our foreign policy is a huge mess. Back in 2014, when the funds were first announced 90% of Americans disapproved of the move. It's strange how reshaping the same thing we universally hated, could make it split.
