Fulton County DA requests special grand jury to probe Trump's election interference

(CNN)A district attorney in Georgia investigating former President Donald Trump's effort to overturn election results in the state is requesting a special grand jury in an effort to gather information relevant to the probe, according to a letter sent to the court.

This story is breaking and will be updated.

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/20/politics/georgia-trump-grand-jury/index.html

Looks like Trumpty Dumpty's attempt to steal the election in Georgia is going to have some serious consequences for him soon. It is so nice to see the justice system back in working order now that he is no longer in a position to screw it up and be politically shielded from it by partisan henchmen and an OLC memo.

    A few things to note...

    1. The judge hasn't signed off on this yet.... If you read the letter (in the CNN article), that's the purpose of this request.
    2. Stranger though, read that exhibit A in the letter and tell me what that means. It's a 1 page snip of an interview between BR and Chuck Todd from Oct/21, and I don't see ANYTHING important in there.... I would have expected a snip from the phone call if you were trying to convince a judge.

Any ideas on #2??? Could be the strangest exhibit in a legal doc I've seen....

Still not sure why this grand jury wasn't requested in April 2021? What have they learned since then?

It looks like Exhibit A is focused on getting evidence from Brad Raffensperger. From page 1:

By way of example, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, an essential witness to the investigation, has indicated that he will not participate in an interview or otherwise offer evidence until he is presented with a subpoena by my office. Please see Exhibit A, attached to this letter.

And that is what the transcript is meant to substantiate. So it would seem that the main idea of impaneling the special grand jury is to get Brad Raffensperger to sit down for an interview and provide evidence.

We have the full audio and transcripts of the conversation and there was no crime, what exactly is this GA trying to do here other than another political prosecution? What is the probable cause of a crime?

"The Georgia Secretary of State's office has already provided Willis's team with evidence including document, recording of calls Trump made to Raffensperger and another official in his office and interviews with some staffers.
Raffensperger and other state officials have not been accused of wrongdoing and are not expected to be targets of her investigation."

As I said above they have the transcripts and audio of the call in question.

"However, Willis has made clear that she is looking into the activities of a number of other Trump loyalists. She planned to examine actions by former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and others who may have aided Trump's efforts."

Oh well of course now we have another State AG going on a witch hunt to make a name for herself I bet she gets Roger Stone and Manfort and the the Trump kids next.

"Willis, who took office in January 2021, has juggled her Trump investigation with a mountain of backlogged cases and rising violence in the Atlanta area. Her investigation now threatens to run up against the 2022 midterm elections."

Of course let's run this up to the midterms to use as a political weapon while Atlanta REAL crime goes unpunished and parts of the city are trying to succeed to get out of Atlanta.

Yeah, I get the intent, but BR had much better responses to T****'s BS in the phone call, including his specific responses to the exact number of votes needed request.. What about that particular exchange with Chuck Todd would give a judge reason to sign off on the special GJ?

    I don't get it...

I'm not sure what's left to get. The exchange with Chuck Todd merely substantiates the argument that the special grand jury is needed to give the Georgia DA subpoena power in order to get what she needs for her investigation from Brad Raffensperger, and presumably from others as well.

The CNN talking heads say that it shows that the DA is serious and that Brad Raffensperger wants to stay in the good graces of the RINO party (my nomenclature, of course), thus his outspoken refusal to cooperate without a subpoena:

Ya know, he's nuts, but he's usually CONSISTENTLY nuts.... check out this hot take on that hour of insanity with Brad

    SNIP
Former President Donald Trump released a lengthy statement on Thursday describing his phone call to Georgia's secretary of state seeking to overturn the state's 2020 election results as "perfect."

Trump's statement went on to say that he "didn't say anything wrong in the call" and that it was made while he was "President on behalf of the United States of America, to look into the massive voter fraud which took place in Georgia."
    ENDSNIP

It's only perfect if you don't have to be the ones listening to it...

Where exactly did we hear about perfect phone calls before?? Oh.... right... Impeachment 1-A

If I didn't know you were a staunch defender of the Constitution and a destroyer of those who try to violate it, reading you constantly defending Trump I would almost believe that you are finally just another MAGA completely intoxicated by the Cult...

Legal experts have said Trump's phone calls may have violated at least three state election laws: conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud and intentional interference with performance of election duties. The possible felony and misdemeanor violations are punishable by fines or imprisonment.

I don't defend Trump I defend the law and the Constitution which has been attacked for 6 years by those seeking political vengeance against their opposition.

    So try again

She has the full transcript in text and audio what does she need for what specifically besides that. It's the phone call that is the issue. It's been a year, why hasn't she wrapped up a simple matter?

The phone call is not the only issue, just the most visible (audible) one....

Regardless, this should have been indicted in the same calendar year.... I'm supposing Fulton County is not the SDNY when it comes to manpower and clout...

Either it’s constant witch Hunts or you elected a sketchy character who does a lot of questionable stuff. Most of these issues have been bipartisan.

There is one important difference though The major examiners of this evidence will be Courts; Judges and Juries, NOT the most corrupt group of political sycophants and utter toadies to ever disgrace the feces smeared Halls of Congress since it was first built. These people have no interest at all in how warm the President's rear end is nor in how satisfied he will be once they complete their ministrations to certain mushroom shaped appendages he may have.

Whether or not there was a crime has not been determined. That would be the purpose of a special grand jury, to take it's time and make that determination.

But, here's the 114 page report, so, there's more to this story.
