Depends on DeSantis. If his government decides it might cause discomfort, then the history books need to be modified accordingly.

I doubt Democrats argue that government needs to stay out of micro managing what schools can and cannot teach. Why do you think that it a Dem talking point?

Your view is far closed to Dem talking points than mine. I want the government out of it, and you and Dems want them in it. This is not the 1st time DeSantis gets government involved in dictating schools and private businesses what they can and cannot do. He is a text book example of an authoritarian, which explains why you are "all-in" supporthing him.

No, I want them to hear the truth. I don't give a rats ass about how it makes them feel. Why do you want to create laws to ban speech based on how you think it might make someone feel? Are you kidding me? Why do you have to police thoughts and speech? Sometimes truth hurts, as it should.

"You can't teach history that because children might feel discomfort". MY ASS!! I have never seen this level of snowflakery in my life.

    What happened to you guys?

De do not need the government deciding which parts of history is suitable and which is not.

Orwellian Law / DeSantis Law: Denotes an attitude and a brutal policy of draconian control by propaganda, surveillance, disinformation, denial of truth (doublethink), and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson"—a person whose past existence is expunged from the public record and memory, practiced by modern repressive governments.

So.....of course populist pseudo-conservatives support such government.

No pretty sure history would still be taught fella.

    https://miami.cbslocal.com/2021/05/21/desantis-us-history-public-schools/
"During a news conference Friday in Pensacola, DeSantis said he told education officials “they need to address this, and we’ve got to do it.” DeSantis added, “(History) needs to be taught accurately, it needs to be taught in a fact-based way not an ideological-based way. If we have to play whack-a-mole all over this state stopping this critical race theory, we will do it.”"

That was June of last year. We don't need your "woe is the black man forever needs the white man feel shame" emotional tripe in schools.

We (the white man) fought a ****ing war to free the slaves.

They (the black man) still have slavery in many of their home nations still today.

If we wanna get REAL about slavery. Let's get real.

So in other words...no facts are being edited out. This is just a wish/dream of yours that they will, at some future time, be edited out.

So this thread, like Seinfeld, is about nothing.

It seems like some people want to reduce 200+ years of oppression to, "Some people did some things".

That's an interesting imaginary take of yours that I never said. Since this thread seems to be primarily based on make-believe however, I'll indulge your nonsense a little bit.

Do you think that Black and Brown students in the K-12 schools be taught something that is insulting to them? If not, why not? I would tend to think if you made up a fake ideology to insult Black and Brown students, they would be a lot less interested in attending school that's going to insult them and hurt their feelings all day.

Yes it is. This bill even mandates that black contributions must be taught in history. They paint this bill like it’s a one sided bill and it’s not.

The law authorizes the government become "thought police" who creates "certain principles" which cannot be contradicted and are therefore prohibited. It was inspired by opposition to CRT, which DeSantis argues makes white people feel uncomfortable, but of course it can be used to prohibit any speech the government decides contradicts the "certain principles" category.

"prohibiting instructional materials reviewers from recommending instructional materials that contain any matter that contradicts certain principles"

Lets not kid ourselves, - this is textbook Orwellian Law.

    How can you support this?

Why do you insist on the government mandating speech?

State and local governments have been crafting what could be taught in K-12 education for...forever. So the state of Florida wants to edit out an ideology that presents whites as evil oppressors. Do you think that whites as evil oppressors is actual, factual history?

Most of the whites has nothing to do with the past.
It is a Democrat party that put blame on whites.
White people have human rights as everyone else.

Oh my god I’m literally seeing people defend safe places, by conservatives who think they need to be protected from such inconvenient truths like racism exists.

    I’m sorry but that’s hilarious.

Does it also discuss how some Black people also did that to Black people? Does it discuss that African Tribes enslaved their own people, or members of opposing tribes, and sold them to the White traders for monetary gain?

Either they 'teach' the entire truth, or it's not the truth.

It can be used to edit out anything they want.

I am surprised you defend Orwellian Law.

You are missing the point. You are too focused on partisan finger pointing.

When you say "it", you mean schools? Its common knowledge, so yes, it is taught.

DeSantis is moving on from killing people with his covid policies to tossing out red meat to racists.

There is no racism in United States.
Racism is ignited artificially by Democrat party to promote special rights and secure power with dependent electorate.

Yea, the racism is artificial. That artificial racism leads to the situation where black people hate white people.
Democrat party promote racial war to secure political loyalty from the non-white population.

Legislatures have always been able to do that and have. Nothing "Orwell" about it.

It shows people will support anything and everything if it comes from the politician they support, and I think that's a pretty scary thing. That is the mindset which gave us Jan-6, and I think it will give us something even worse in the future.

This laws practically defines Orwellian law.

Its what it does. It creates an emotional safe place to shield children from hearing things politicians don't want them to hear. I don't know how "safe" the place it, but its a place where the political party / government wants them. It shapes their minds, so the party can better utilize them in the future.

    1984 has arrived.
