Hundreds Of Schools Defy Virginia’s New GOP Guv

School district officials who oversee hundreds of schools in Virginia are actively defying their new Republican governor’s efforts to tamp down COVID-19 mitigation measures in the state.

The backlash is similar to what we saw play out in Texas and Florida when Republican Govs. Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis enacted similar executive orders late last year, attempting to block individual schools and municipalities from creating their own policies for combatting the pandemic.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) began his term as governor as any right-wing Republican who rose to prominence in the Trump or (hardly) post-Trump era might: he signed executive orders on his first day in office last week barring school districts from enforcing mask-related policies for students and staff under their purview. Some of the largest school districts in the commonwealth shot back almost immediately, with Arlington Public Schools declaring its mask mandate would remain in effect for in-person learning, regardless of the governor’s statewide order.

I rely on the view of MLK's close collaborator.

No, Critical Race Theory Isn’t a New Civil Rights Movement. (Just the Opposite)

    06 Jun 2021

". . . King was assassinated in 1968. But some of his contemporaries lived long enough to see the way that his ideas were mangled. The Reverend Wyatt Tee Walker (1928-2018), a leading civil rights activist, and one of King’s closest confidants, spoke out against Critical Race Theory in 2015, years before CRT went mainstream in schools and bestselling books. “Today, too many ‘remedies’—such as Critical Race Theory, the increasingly fashionable post-Marxist/postmodernist approach that analyzes society as institutional group power structures rather than on a spiritual or one-to-one human level—are taking us in the wrong direction,” he wrote in a co-authored article. “[These ideas] separat[e] even elementary school children into explicit racial groups, and emphasizing differences instead of similarities.”. . . ."

That dealt with CRT. The rest was simply part of the link title.

Correction: Government schools will teach *what* they are told to teach. Surely you know that.

Rank the Org Chart, start at the top, and start firing folks. They just spent the last two years proclaiming themselves nonessential workers.

    They want our distrust

"Chi Ossé, a New York City councilman, posted a picture of maskless councilmen having a good time in a city where policemen take people into custody for not wearing a mask at Burger King."

The mask karens can be truly horrible people.

Defying the governor to abuse children should cost the school is funding possibly even it's existence.

Religion has no place in school even if it's branch covidians.

This is how you know this isn't about health. Even if it was a misguided it's about control.

Exactly. If they thought it was critical to their health, they would be wearing masks.

I routinely wear masks indoors, it's my choice.

Agreed even though wearing masks is proven not to do anything if these people wanted to be consistent and weren't engaging in child abuse they would be wearing masks.

I refuse to wear a mask.

They 'have a favorite narrative they want to push. They knee jerk react with screams of "debunk, debunk." They think that leftists wailing means something.

Roland Fryer was Harvard's bright shining star, until he peed all over their leftist sacred cows, so suddenly he had to be destroyed.

We know studies, analysis, references, ... facts... mean nothing to right-wing extremists. But we just love to rub them in their faces.

How can standardized exams be racist?

'In Maryland, the process required to become a social worker is under scrutiny because the standardized exam administered to graduates is being flunked by a disproportionate number of Black postgraduate students. Maryland legislators are now considering “fixing” the problem by simply doing away with the exam requirement. This leads us to the obvious question of how a standardized exam could be racially slanted.'

'86% of test takers who identified as white passed the master’s exam on the first try. Just 45% of those identifying as Black managed the same feat. That’s an almost two-to-one disparity. Other racial groups fell somewhere between the two.'

These are all 'people who made it all the way to college and graduated, with everyone in the same field taking the same courses and attempting to pass the same standard examinations. Assuming they are all studying a sufficient amount and passing the same courses, why would there be such a disparity in the results?'

'The Association of Social Work Boards warned Maryland’s legislature, eliminating the requirement of passing an exam is not the answer. That could result in “many real-world consequences that could negatively affect the profession.” So rather than ditching the tests, they probably need to find a way to filter out any inadvertent “cultural blindness” and give every applicant a fair playing field to compete upon.'

If we're ever going to be one "Melting Pot" of people we need to standardize a lot of things. "A house divided will not stand".
