The term "Gypsy"should not be thought of as pejorative.
    "Gypsy" refers to Egypt.
And the first Gypsies that arrived in England said that they were pilgrims from Egypt.

    Hence the name

What about using the terms Nawar, Halebi and Ghagar now?

Here is a famous German song about the "Zigeunerleben" = the life of the Gypsies.

In the American south, we have Irish Travelers'. I've no idea if they are related to the Romani people but they live a similar life style.

    Meaning they're rip off artists.

How about their actual names. Like my name is Bob. Although I can understand Germans naturally see things through the prism of "race". They still haven't figured out there is only one race - the human race.

In the UK they are called "pikeys".
    In France, "gitanes".

May I refer you to your comment further down:
"Lots of ignorance in this post."
This is better placed as a comment to your posting here.
You seem to have zero knowledge or understanding for the topic in question.
But you seem to like to insult all Germans and Germany as a country.
Which shows quite a lot of stupidity and ignorance and ill will on your part.
    Over and out.

For starters, this cultural group is not just located in the South of the U.S.

The culture is not similar to the other migratory cultures in mainland Europe.

While every culture has some form of "rip-off artist", none of the migratory cultures are based on this. Other non-migratory cultures tend to describe migratory cultures as inhuman boogeymen and it is easier to blame things on the people who just left than accuse someone in your own town.

Usually, migratory cultures take on jobs which require them to move around as things like painting a single silo is not a full time job.

I haven’t seen Gypsies since I was in High school.
They would periodically visit our town and camp by the river. They used to drive huge American cars and towed caravans. I don’t know what they
worked at and where they were at other times. They had a bit of a reputation for stealing.

I usually make no assumptions about a person's background, race or religion. The term Rom is used quite often, but usually as a reference to their heritage. There is no negative connotation attached to it. It's like saying one is Irish, or French or German. It's heritage.

Gypsy is a life style not a nationality, I don't consider them con artists or thieves. That's using a paintbrush, and that is definitely a no for me. Each person is responsible for their own actions. They just go where they want, when they want.

So you are saying that Irish Travelers are NOT rip off artists? They are a good and kindly folk?

Do you have evidence that everyone of them is a rip-off artist?

    Are all papists rip-off artists?

    Are all Muslims rip-off artists?

Is everyone in Nigeria a rip-artist?
