I'm telling you as a former teachers' union executive member that the people who go to NEA national conventions are union activists. You just don't like reality.

The bill doesn't criminalise anything. Simple!

You continue to not be capable of standing up to even the SLIGHTEST bit of scrutiny! It's pretty pathetic! :roflol:

Posting childish emoticons and saying nothing but "your thread is laughable" is not scrutiny, - its trolling.

It's tongue in cheek, I'm pretty sure. The left started this woke nonsense, of a piece with affirmative action, defunding police, men are women, speech is violence, violence is speech, political correctness and quotas. De Santis is just saying, "You're absolutely right . We need to outlaw discomfort."

It just cost you Dems a gubernatorial election in Virginia. Ask James Carville.

Not that I want them to change. I think they should go even harder to the left. Full speed ahead!

No, its a law. Maybe Dems should be flattered by the fact that populists adopt their tactics, because its an admission that they think it might work.

I didn't have a dog in the race, so it didn't cost me anything.

No thanks. Wasn't it enough that Dems lean left, and now the populists are going woke-left too?

The bill reads in part, "An individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, does not bear responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or sex. An individual should not be made to feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race."

I'm sure it's just a thinly disguised recruiting statement for the Ku Klux and all, but who disagrees with which word of that?

And notice that it says "should not." No one is going to a racist swamp jail in the Everglades for teaching about slavery.

Edited to delete reference to Pro Line personally. My mistake.

The "law" has no teeth, and so the Floridians are just having fun.

Anyone affected can write De Santis a hot letter from the Tallassee jail.

At this point we have come full circle in my 66 years. We tried to be good but all that hate just kept coming back around. Someone on the right actually argued that they wanted life to be like it was in 1958. This is like believing Ozzie and Harriet was a documentary or that Sheriff Taylor could fix everything. Florida is a disaster at this point.

No, to help you bear up under the excesses of the fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, crypto-transphobic De Santis regime.

If it's causing this much agony to talk about it, imagine being locked away in his swampy archipelago.

The penalties under this law are monetary, just FYI. Does talking about jail bring back the memories?

The law is void for vagueness, and the sponsors and draftsmen (likely someone in the legislature, not Desantis) are lawyers, or their aids are, and they know that perfectly well. So they have no intention of enforcing it in court. It's just a message that CRT isn't welcome in Florida. I'm sure it's welcome in Oregon, California, parts of Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia, Iowa, Washington, D.C., and Vermont. Too bad we've reached a point where we have to tell teachers in writing not to guilt trip school kids about their skin color.

    Welcome to the Civil War.

You have no right or basis to insinuate that I'm a convicted felon. And I'm not. So I'll ask you to delete that bit of defamation if you have any honor.

    Back to the law....

I don't see any "penalties" set out in the draft statute itself. It does establish a private right of action, true, as does the similarly silly bounty provision in the Texas abortion law, but that's not really a "penalty" like a fine set out in the law and enforceable by the state. Florida juries will still be able to find a defendant "not liable" from what I can see if they are sued for making someone uncomfortable. Or liable, but assess damages at 1 penny.

That's at least how I read the news about the statute at this point. If they try to give it real teeth (they won't), it'll be struck down as unconstitutional on at least two bases.

But I don't think this trifle has been signed by the governor, and who knows what it'll say when finally passed. It's not my state.

That's the question of the year.

I don't think any answer offered will be as devastating as the question itself.

Someone please surprise me and answer.

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

A disaster? Why do people from the Progressive state of California keep moving there?
