That’s rich. It’s not misinformation the Left is trying to shut down. It’s free speech, with COVID being used as a shield. You all know this, and liberals are now conscripting medical professionals and experts to peddle the talking points. And these same people wonder why no one trusts them anymore. They decided to whore themselves out to the Democratic Party. We all see it…
…Yes, let’s give more power to Big Tech to be the policeman of what is and isn’t accurate information, says…Surgeon General Vivek Murthy? Yes, I agree with everyone else who saw this story as well. Why is Biden’s chief medical adviser weighing in on issues that are not in his purview? We also know how this will be enforced. Conservative media will be targeted, and their reach diminished to the point where these outlets are crushed whereas liberal outlets will be able to peddle fake news at will.…

Fortunately it is not up to him as to what is free speech. We have a constitution that does a fine job of determining that. It is not a lie to disagree with a secular progressive, even on covid issues.

Ya DNC gonna do what DNC do :) They can't have their base hearing compromising facts, it slows the propagandization process!

Out this way they have been running a radio add, Jack FM and XMS how youtube, snapchat and facetard have spent five billion to stop information and how they have deleted like eleven million accounts to SAVE US from misinformation IE, "anything contrary to the bullshit narrative of the collective".

So obvious :) But I'm sure it works great on the soft heads..

Media companies own their servers. Part of their freedom of speech is being able to have whatever they want on or off their servers. It's their property.

I do agree that there is a concerted effort to de facto censor counter-cultural viewpoints, but we are best off combating this through louder speech in public places, not backing down.

A point will come where the majority of people are verboten, and at that point we will win.

They are private companies. They have laws protecting them from us that regular media doesn’t have. Section 230. It’s when they willfully or through threats of regulation act as de facto censors on behalf of the federal government and the democrat party that it becomes a legal issue. I understand that if we don’t like big tech social media we should leave and create our own alternatives and that is now happening.

I don't think these social media companies need threats from government, they're perfectly happy to censor on their own.

Section 230 is a joke, you shouldn't need immunity from someone else's actions in the first place.

The “threat” of regulation is simply political cover for the companies to engage as you suggest.

They don't need cover, though it helps.

Not that long ago, may 15 years or so, a Surgeon General advocating censorship would be fired, be either administration. Now censorship is a Democratic policy position.

there are limits to free speech,

i certainly don't mind that you guys drink your own urine or enjoy bleach enemas, when you recommend such behavior to others, isn't that "practicing medicine without a license?" ,

    What he actually said
We can have the best science available, we can have the best public health expertise available. It won’t help people if they don’t have access to accurate information. People have the right to make their own decisions, but they also have the right to have accurate information to make that decision with, This is not just about what the government can do, This is about companies and individuals recognizing that the only way we get past misinformation is if we are careful about what we say and use the power that we have to limit the spread of misinformation.

Also, free speech is not required of public companies or individuals. How this has to keep being explained to the gqp is fascinating.
