I listen to everyone, and I see both sides (all sides) of every dispute. I look for common aims in all people because 'united we stand and divided we fall.' I adore aircraft, science, engineering, human thinking, computer programming, computer games, and history. My pet dragon is silent, invisible, odorless, massless, and well behaved.
The biggest influence on my life was the TV series Doctor Who. It happened to be on TV at a house where someone I knew lived and I continued along that particular route while most of the people at school were 'Trekies' - who watched Star Trek. This is just a suspicion I have, but I think it may be that the level of impossibility in Doctor Who might exceed even that in Star Trek.
@yangforward What is YOUR position regarding Speak clearly into the microphone, please Moi Welcome Status: pending
The US has a neighbor to the North and neighbors to the South with examples of how we might achieve various objectives, and we should be open to learning from all of them. Canada is the most obvious source of advice as the nation is predominantly English-speaking and has about the same standard of living, education, etc. Therefore if we can't learn from Canada, we can't learn from anybody.
Long ago when someone told me to listen to advice I responded that most of what I hear doesn't work and got the explanation that listening is one thing, doing is another. Collect up options but only do the ones that work.
WRONG opinion. John Candy, Lorne Greene, Monty Hall, Doug Henning, Margot Kidder, Eugene Levy, Rich Little, Howie Mandel, Lorne Michaels, Anne Murray, Leslie Nielsen, Morley Safer, William Shatner, Martin Short, Alan Thicke & Dave Thomas
True, I didn't want to admit that I don't have an opinion on Canada. I lived in England 42 years and have a number of opinions on that, but don't have an opinion on Canada because I don't pay attention to media and I live way down in New Mexico.
Just the way they like it! BTW there is a truckers' rebellion going on in their capitol. And there are lots of "them" on Board. They walk among us, unnoticed. Moi Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
I totally forgot why I post here. I like to understand things so I think about them and post various musings. But particularly now in the Bidden era (does is he is bidden) reality is pretty depressing, so I read posts here in the hopes of finding Hope. The departure of Biden won't be much good unless the other idiots also go. The arrival of Trump is something to look forward to but we now have even bigger problems than ever before, and we need a whole bunch of super heroes. Tulsi Gabbard for VP would be great but any role for her in the cabinet would be a good thing and would give me hope for the future.
When it seems things are going too badly wrong sometimes someone says something positive. But other times I hope that I can say something helpful about how things could be fixed hoping someone just might be able to use it.
And I'm hoping that joining this forum and posting here I can stop talking politics in everyday life, because it does tend to be divisive in the US, because everyone takes sides instead of trying to reach agreement.
It didn't work. I found that I can't talk politics in everyday life as a rule and that it is Taboo to attempt it. So since the mainstream news is mostly lies, and you can't iron out the problems by discussion, well, people are just going to be in the dark. So I would suggest following at least one general rule and not start any more wars even when the politicians and news say some other country (they pick from a list of 40) started the war. You know that ten years later it always turned out we started the war, either directly or the CIA covert operations did it.
I'm not Russian, I'm not right or left in most senses of the words either but Biden is destroying America and I have a Big problem with that. That might help people understand what I write.
I don't want to stay at the top of this thread because I am no new, but since nobody else has posted here since Mar 2 I guess I'm not stealing anyone's limelight. I need to add to post 18 because I still get asked what the 'weather is like in Moscow comrade'. It isn't true that everyone who is anti Biden is Russian. The majority of Americans are anti Biden and an even bigger majority in the rest of the world, if they know anything about the Biden cabal, are also called 'anti Biden'. There isn't enough room (housing) in Russia for all the people who don't want the Biden Administration ruining the US, or running the US. Your blessed Biden cabal is not god's gift to anyone. If a few years ago you voted for Biden, admit your mistake and move on. This is an introduction thread, but this is core to introducing who I am. If you want a debate then open a thread in Political Opinions and I will see it and so will others.
Methinks the number of people capable of thinking only in such binary terms are a lot smaller than the volume of their cries suggests.
Yes, but it would be nice if they would go away because having them on ignore means threads they start are invisible so I can't find the threads and miss what intelligent people post in them. But that's just something I have to strike a balance with. Some people never post anything worth reading, some are always worth reading, then there are a few who often post crap and sometimes post interesting stuff. Maybe they are bipolar?
I don't have anyone set to ignore. I practice ignoring posts on a case by case basis. You don't have to defend everything, just pick ur battles.
It might be an individual thing - I took everyone off ignore a few months ago but it appears I'm easily distracted and I'd have what seemed a great big insight, come on here to post or start a thread, see something by one of those irritating idiots, and lose my focus. So I have 24 on ignore, and for me that seems to work. As for why people write garbage, I'd guess it's like so many things, it's just arrogance, they don't listen to us inferior beings. Sometimes I explain something and someone posts directly under it contracting what I said and giving no reason, just says 'no, your wrong'. And doesn't spell 'you're' correctly.
