The story of the day. After a wild week of conference tournament play that included more than a few upsets (and bubbles getting burst), it's time for the Big Dance! Here's your 2022 NCAA Tournament bracket: 2022 March Madness: Men's NCAA tournament complete schedule, dates, TV times https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2022-march-madness-schedule https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/ncaa-tournament/bracket/
This might be their year but I can't put any faith in a team that plays with the cupcakes in the WCC. The Zags don't have a particularly strong record against the teams that made it to the tournament and they lost to a team (Duke) they'll have to beat to reach the Final Four: https://gozags.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule/2021-22 I'd like to see them step up their competition and join a power conference like the Pac-12.
My overall first take - this tournament is wide open. There are quite a few teams who could win it all. One of the big surprises I see is how little respect Virginia Tech has gotten. They won the ACC Tournament handily: ACC Tournament Quarterfinals No. 7 Virginia Tech 87, No. 2 Notre Dame 80 Semifinals No. 7 Virginia Tech 72, No. 3 North Carolina 59 Championship Game No. 7 Virginia Tech 82, No. 1 Duke 67 ...and only got an 11 seed. They got a really tough draw in the tournament, but if the Hokies keep playing the way they did in the ACC Tournament they could make the Eight Eight.
And March Madness is on! And as soon as we're into our first full day of play we have our first upset - Richmond over Iowa. Since I followed the A-10 tournament I can't say I'm super surprised at this. Richmond is on a roll right now and playing their best ball of the season. In their conference tournament they knocked of #3 VCU, #2 Dayton and #1 Davidson to earn an automatic bid. In the process they knocked VCU out of consideration, popped Dayton's bubble and forced Davidson to get in as an at-large. I wouldn't sleep on Davidson, either. I picked Michigan State to win, but when the Wildcats are on they can score with just about anyone in the country.
Bad, huh? I missed most of that game - I didn't tune in until Baylor had nearly wiped out UNC's lead. I've seen quite a bit of sketchy officiating but the refs seem to be consistently erring on the side of letting the players play. I'd rather see that than a bunch of ticky-tack calls.
SWEET 16 (with odds) WEST REGIONAL Thursday at San Francisco (1) Gonzaga -8.5 vs. (4) Arkansas (2) Duke +1 vs. (3) Texas Tech SOUTH REGIONAL Thursday at San Antonio (1) Arizona -2 (5) Houston (2) Villanova -4.5 vs. (11) Michigan MIDWEST REGIONAL Friday at Chicago (1) Kansas -7.5 vs. (4) Providence (10) Miami -1.5 vs. (11) Iowa State PK EAST REGIONAL Friday at Philadelphia (4) UCLA -2 vs. ( North Carolina (3) Purdue -12.5 vs. (15) Saint Peter's St. Peter's looked solid in their win over Kentucky but the game against Murray St. was gluteus ugliness. That is crazy, and down the stretch Bacot couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at the free throw line. I thought UNC was going to lose in OT but they got their act back together. I sure am glad I didn't put any money down on this tournament. Baylor's gone and the other #1 seeds look really vulnerable. Two #2 seeds are history, too. This year could be like 2014 when a #7 seed (UConn) won.
This is the most fun I’ve ever had watching the madness. My husband is a Jayhawks fan, so he’s all good right now. He’s only got 2 of his final 4 left. Anyone else notice that some of these kids get their hair styled by Sideshow Bob?
Especially Jaylin Williams from Arkansas. Him and his haircut had a strong tournament. I was ROFLing when they beat Gonzaga Thursday night....
For what many considered an off-year, the ACC did pretty well - two teams in the Final Four and three in the Elite Eight. I think Kansas is going to take care of Villanova and Duke-UNC could go either way. I'm not a Duke fan but I'm glad to see Coach K make it to the Final Four in his last season.
Yeah... KU will take it on Monday... Duke deserved to loses and they are Prideless. Coach K deserved to lose. Any coach who doesn't stress fundamentals enough that his team is blowing the game b/c of missed FTs deserves to lose. That said, Coach K showed some balls by throwing that Choking Punk (Williams) under the bus. https://keepingitheel.com/2022/04/03/unc-basketball-coach-k-throws-mark-williams-bus-loss/
Kansas has been playing real strong lately and deserves to be favored but UNC is also playing great and has already taken down a 1 seed. I'm not saying they'll win, but I'll be pulling for the Tar Heels tonight....
