Irrelevant. They didn't go after the one person responsible for the carnage.

You act like madmen don't slaughter families in Canada or Australia. They do.

Man suspected of killing Canadian Muslim family was motivated by hate -police | Reuters

Australia: Five of family killed after man sets wife, three children on fire, stabs self | World News,The Indian Express

Are their deaths somehow more noble in your eyes because their attackers didn't use a gun?

Adopt laws similar to Australia's. Contrary to popular misconception law-abiding Australians CAN still own firearms.

The danger of this happening is still much less than in America. I realize you can't eliminate danger entirely but I like to have better odds.

You don’t have to give a flying fig and I suggest that maybe, since you know I am a non American anti gun left wing “radical” you put me on ignore. Won’t upset me, I will just keep speaking what I see as the truth

But I do love living in a country where I do not have to fear the reports of the next mass shooting

Yep! Sure can! But what we did was legislate responsibility. You keep your guns locked away and if they are stolen you notify the police straight away

As I understand the Australia situation, they had a mandatory turn-in. Do you see that working in the US?

As noted by another poster previously, even if you ignored all the crime in America committed with guns, we've still got more crimes committed with edged weapons, blunt weapons, or bodily weapons (hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc) than Australia or Canada. The problem isn't guns. The problem is a broken segment of our population who resort to violence over trivial matters. America is a very violent place. If you want to have better odds, G.T.F.O.

Exactly. You can still hunt if you want to or practice marksmanship as a hobby.

Funny, we have many of this type right here in the US.

Nevertheless, he was the one who felt prompted to use it. One could argue that the advertising may have still had an effect. I understand that the company documents speak of appealing to the manliness of teens and to “wannabe military types”… Is the kid who wants to be like the ‘Marlboro Man’ not affected by the advertising, even if he starts smoking by using his mother’s cigarettes…?

Not necessarily and it would be hard to evaluate as we classify crime differently e.g. we do not keep statistics on rape but instead track the broader category of “sexual assault”.

One of the most outstanding social experiments in relation to guns was our 1996 gun reform when the Federal government stepped in and basically took over the gun laws in Australia to make them less of a hodgepodge than previous state laws

No, YOU ****, I was born here and will die on the soil of my sacred home. Part of our problem is we deport the wrong people and I think we should begin with those who are apparently perfectly ok with madmen slaughtering innocent children

And yet suggesting that this a a road to gun death reduction is very unpopular in the USA

Interesting. When I was a kid I played army with my friends, we used toy guns and stick guns; we were "wannabe military types". In my group of friends two joined the Marines, one the Navy, one the Air Force and I the Army. A group of real men if I do say so myself. We are now all in our sixties and not one of us ever picked up a gun and murdered anyone. I grew up in a home with many guns, none ever locked up, I never murdered anyone. Adam Lanza's mom knew he had mental issues yet allowed him access to firearms. She should have been the one on trial.

We should start with you and all of your un-American ilk, but then we ought to expand the scope to people like this piece of **** that rode a bike around downtown Albuquerque for hours on Sunday, stabbing people at random. I have no confidence at all that the liberals running the legal industry there will deal with him appropriately (they haven't yet, given his lengthy criminal history, and the fact that he was yet again roaming free, stabbing people at will earlier this week):

So if I am reading chart correctly, when it was complied Australia had more crime than the US. And this was after the reform. What about your living situation and location makes you feel safe?

Quite possibly. I’m sure there’s blame to be shared around. That doesn’t negate the fact that the marketing dept of the gun manufacturer has been caught with their ‘hands in the cookie jar’ as a result of their own confidential documents. They targeted weak young men like Lanza, with the message that their gun would ‘make a man out of him’…

And you’re talking with an ‘army brat’ here as well. Dad was in for 21 years and kept several weapons in our home. Fortunately, we kids grew up reasonably sound, never had a fascination for guns, never would have thought of taking one of them. If one of us had been like Lanza, if the advertising had appealed (not that there was much of that in Australia, even in the 50s and 60s) and those guns had looked like a ‘solution’….well, who knows…?

The money is being paid by Remington's 4 Insurance Carriers (at the time, in question).

    How am I un-American? I was born here and I don't take kindly to suggestions I wasn't

And why are you bringing up this guy in Albuquerque?
