Democrats are always behind the time. When Romney warned about Russia, they laughed at him. Now when he warned about China, they went after Russia. Terrible. And they went after Russia only because they hope it will help them in forthcoming elections. Let's see how mature Americans are.

I admire your bravery on volunteering to go fight the bully Putin. Be sure and post while you are over there mopping up those dastardly Russkies!

If you are going to use facts to attempt to make a point, make sure you use the CORRECT facts. The correct facts dispelled your point entirely.

No. I am very aware that Trump dodged the draft. But this thread is about a current event. And Biden, a draft dodger, is President and commands our military.

Are you aware that Trump is no longer President? And Trump was not in charge during the cowardly midnight flight from Bagram.

Here is what you said about the Soviet Army and the German Army during WW2
As I said, Russia had a Army between 5 to 7 million. German invasin of Russia in 1942, both the German Army being used and the Defense forces in Russia were about even. If it wasn't the miskakes by Hitler going from the South to Stalingrad, Hitler was fixated on capturing that city, Germany could have captured the oil rich researves in the Crimean region. Since that is where the Soviet Union gets most of its oil supplies, it would have hampered the Soviet Army from couterstriking against Germany.

This goes against the point you were making that Russia is not as big of a threat as you are trying to convince people of. If Russia is allowed to do to Ukraine without any resistance, then he will turn his sights on Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and any other former Soviet satellite nation.

OK you actually altered my post to make your point. Here's the relevant part:

I was clearly comparing Germany's WWII army (which did have the ability to conquer all of Europe) with the current Russian Army, which does not.

I think the fact that you felt the need to alter my post means you knew exactly what I meant and decided to lie about it.

I think even then Republicans would oppose sending troops to Ukraine.

Maybe. Rightwing media, like Trump, has been very pro-Russian for quite a while.

Wether you like it or not we’re already on our way to war. If you want to talk history I’m okay with that. WWII was ignited by an economically crippled nation much like is starting with Russia. If you think economic crippling sanctions are a deterrent greater than a big stick you’re mistaken and history proves it. Hitler would have been much easier to stop early on.

As for my enlistment, I said collectively. Singular people won’t be a sufficient deterrent and I’m sure you’re well aware of that. There’s no need to be smug.

The Bear won't like that any more than the rest of the world. Lets quit threatening with the nuke monster, everybody has them now and Kim is dying for a chance to shoot one somewhere.

Actually far fewer nations have nuclear weapons than were predicted to have them by now.

So 16000 invading Azerbaijani troops/mercenaries with drones, missiles and long range heavy artillery killing 4000 and wounding 11000 Armenian 'volunteer defenders' (which sounds to me like armed civilians) and displacing 100,000 people from their homes is too small 'scale' to be worthy of Team America World Police intervention, iyo, but Ukraine is. Have I got that about right?

Gotta be honest, it kinda sounds like maybe you just want war with Russia, not actually for the US to militarily protect freedom around the globe...

I certainly hope we are not on our way to a shooting war with the World's number one nuclear power, Russia has thousands of nuclear weapons.

The U.S. has a completely effectively nuclear deterrent. You really think the Russians would risk a nuclear exchange with the U.S.?

If we are really worried about Russian nuclear weapons, why aren't we building ABMs as fast as we can?

    1. The "why" with respect to not having a current effective ABM system is the fact that Ronald Reagan was ridiculed by Dems for his Strategic Defense Initiative which they labeled "Star Wars." Building an effective defense system starting now would take years. And of course now Russia has hypersonic missiles.

    2. As I have pointed out in prior posts, Soviet Cold war doctrine called for the immediate use of tactical nukes if a ground war with NATO broke out. These nukes were to be directed against airfields and command and control targets. We did not know that then, but we know it now. Just like we now know that the Soviets provided tactical nukes to Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. The decision to launch would have been made by Castro targeting an invasion fleet, if an invasion were to have been initiated by the US and WWIII would have resulted. This is a historical fact. So all of the comments about Russian risk acceptance assume they think like we do. Historically they do not.

    3. The US nuclear deterrent is based on a theory designed for lack of anything better during the cold war. MAD only works, or to use your words, is effective if the leader of the other side is rational. Putin could be mentally ill or have terminal cancer. Also, MAD would only work if Russia felt Biden would push the button. Clearly the Russians think he would not. They of course, may be wrong. My concern is that Biden may in a senile moment confuse Putin with Cornpop.

The left-wing media is playing non-stop patriotic war propaganda. Such as comparing Putin to Hitler. And, it appears that most Democrats are eating this up.

I don't know why or how this is happening, but I remember that Hillary Clinton was going to confront Russia if she won the Presidency in 2016. So, there might actually be an ingrained hatred of Putin and Russia on the left. I don't know.

I can't help but recall the H.L. Mencken quote: “No one ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

Perhaps this is a bit cynical. But Biden gets away with still promising to do the things that Obama/Biden promised to do and yet over eight years plus one year of Biden, didn't get done.
