They're not listening. They're determined to stay in the delusion that it's just a Ru$$ia thing.

Oh yeah .. for sure -- I been tracking this spending for over a decade .. You look at the Iraq war .. 4500 dead OK .. nor ridiculously bad .. sans that fact that each one was a waste cause we had no business there.. but ~ 30,000 wounded physically and double that for those injured mentally... now look at the VA .. Pension .. exploded .. part of the cost of war..

I break the calculation down this way .. 300 Billion was the Total Spend in 2000.. had we maintained - increasing with inflation ... not like we were in some great danger to the homeland .. army massing on our border .. - ability to defend ourselves better then than now in fact.. So no reason to up this budget.

After 8 years of Bush .. The total spend was over 900 Billion .. topping 1 Trillion under Obama. and Trump .. first thing he did was add another 200 Billion. Had we maintained 2000 spend levels .. we could have diverted 500 Billion/yr for 20 years = 10 Trillion dollars to infrastructure - technology - ramping up our economy to compete in the 3rd millennium .. as other nations were doing .. the smart one's ..knowing the lesson of history .. "cost of projecting power increases as technology spreads"

Instead we threw that money down the toilet .. chasing desert bandits .. and playing house in 800 bases around the world .. pretending we are there for a reason that exists in the present .. in an effort to Feed the MIC oligipolies .. supposedly something that is in our best interest..

you only get those figures by adding military pension spending in. And pensions should not be counted as such.

You ignore the obvious. The U.S. grossly underspent on its military throughout the 1990s.

It's the essential definition of an authoritarian state... apparently.

U.S. military spending in the 1990s was cut by roughly one third in real terms. Don't believe me, Google it.

Good . should have been cut more .. in "REAL terms" - but, makes zero difference to dumping 10 Trillion down the toilet.. over the next 20 years .. chasing desert rats.. So .. did you have something more coherent and on point to contribute.. you know .. relate what you say somehow to 10 Trillion down the toilet.

I've no need to reply to someone acting as bitchy as you (if you have a better term for it let me know).

The U.S. didn't have much choice at least in regards to Afghanistan given what happened on 9-11. Perhaps we could've done things better but that's a separate issue. Not to mention that it's always possible to do things better.

And those cuts had nothing to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The US kept spending 2% on NATO which had no mission when The Warsaw Pact ended. Do you know how much money the US spent on defense contracts in the 90's?

Of course we did. NATO is composed of the primary and secondary allies of the United States whether they face an invasion danger or not.

And why does everyone act like an "invasion" is the only threat a nation faces?

You should read NATO's original mission statement before the Soviet Union collapsed.

Your the only one getting tighty whities in a bunch mate .. don't be projecting those nasty sentiments onto others now because you can't put a coherent argument together...

Plenty of Choices with Afghanistan .. didn't have to spend 10 Trillion dollars on it.. in Baby Bush .. rushing to war .. chasing around phantoms spun by Tricky Dick and company ... Goblins .. and Yeah Dayton .. perhaps there is other things we could have done with 10 Trillion over 20 years .. 500 Billion/year .. something other than chasing around desert rats. Handed .. to you .. by you now who :)

Chances are congress would've wasted that money shoveling it toward people in order to buy votes.

and the U.S. did not spend that much on Iraq and Afghanistan. I can link to a University of Chicago study that says otherwise (if you will agree to believe it up front).

Oh what the hell, you won't believe it but anyway.

But no one is so stupid to use them ... strategic and tactical ... and so they are only a threat weapon to the other side in matter of "if you use them, I use my!"

The US was once after WW-2 in this bad and wrong thinking that they only need a bunch of Nuclear Weapons and bombers / missiles to deliver them ... hell on modernization of conventional weapons. But then came Korea War and others and their modern weapons were still used on WW-2!

ROFL ... never heard of the proven black budgets?

Anyway ... so only the US is the one where you can trust the numbers of budgets you will claim now, but no other country and particularly not those which are on the "friend list" of the USA, because they are not on the list, they automatically lie etc.

Nice ... welcome to Utopia States of America I can only say to you!

The US used 2. So yes there are people who are stupid enough to use them. Nuclear weapons aren't manufactured with the belief they will never be used. Never say never.
