    Calm down.
Do you even know what this board will do? What its powers will be (if any)?

I don’t think it sounds like a great idea but there is zero indication whatsoever that it will infringe the first amendment.

The government has no business being the ministry of Truth. At least not on social media.

Of course we have laws forcing manufacturers to be truthful about products and things of that nature

Literally nothing about this can be spun as legit. In the best possible interpretation, this is completely ****ed up.

We got a generation thinking the earth is flat and that black people have been in North America thousands of years. It’s getting ridiculous.

So is your post meant to be a justification of this planned action?

Do you think we need big brother to approve all information that is disseminated?

As far as the black people thing. That's scientifically been bore out(what we term as black, which is melatin actually differs depending on what part of the pole you were on. Some areas(like Africa) were more directly exposed to sunlight as opposed to others who were on the atlantic/northern side. As a result, our ancestors's different skin pigmentation took hold.

The more you know when you're out of that borg hive mentality.

I read the first page of comments... I can see why ya'll are worried, disinformation being your stock-in-trade....

But for anybody interested in the real story behind this new initiative from DHS, here is the generally neutral The Hill to explain it to you.

    SNIP
The Department of Homeland Security is stepping up an effort to counter disinformation coming from Russia as well as misleading information that human smugglers circulate to target migrants hoping to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The spread of disinformation can affect border security, Americans’ safety during disasters, and public trust in our democratic institutions,” the department said in a statement Wednesday. It declined The Associated Press’ request for an interview.
    ENDSNIP

    https://thehill.com/policy/national...ion-board-to-tackle-russia-migrant-smugglers/

Why are you disagreeing with fighting those 2 examples of disinformation again?? Still anti border security??

The absolute irony is that this OP IS essentially 100% disinformation

Not so surprising. Just like in 1984, tyranny was always going to come from the left.

I think the real irony here is that you buy their reasoning

I was just about ready to give your post a like and then I saw...4th Amendment?

Although true, that's not what this thread is about so now I don't know what you are really talking about.

The President doesn't have the power? That's constitutional thinking. In our post-constitutional order, the President has as much authority as the media allow him.

I'm willing to give it a shot, to address an ongoing problem.

It's the difference between a liberal and a MAGA...

I think that disinformation can be countered by simply rebutting it rather than censoring it. I think democrats have pressed their own disinformation, in fact I made a thread on it. Should republicans when they gain power censor that, or rebut it?

We never had laws against theft or murder until we had thieves and murderers.
Right wingers are salivating at the hope that musk will allow trump to return to twitter so he can resume spouting his lies and seditious demagoguery, so their apoplexy is understandable.
Let them go on trump’s fantastic social media site if they want to parrot maga bullshit.

For too long the Nazi party has been falsely labeled as right-wing. The methods used by the Democrat party align with those of the party

Your source is the infamous Russian propaganda rag RT (yes, it says so at the end of the article). Not exactly a shining beacon of truth and honesty on a green hill. They spin and twist the narrative to make it seem like the Democrats are the evil puppet master trying to take over the world.

The decision to create the new board had nothing to do with either Elon Musk, Twitter, or the rights granted to American citizens under the Constitution.

Also, from one of Republicans' favorite sources:
    https://thehill.com/policy/national...ion-board-to-tackle-russia-migrant-smugglers/

Tackling illegal immigration is surely not an imminent danger to freedom of speech, is it?

Can you summarize why you think that, please? I'm not sure I'm understanding the problem. All governments, including ours, control what information is available for public consumption.

What's the difference in abiding by the rules here at PF (like the Humor thread or COVID information sub-forum) and whatever busy work they think this will do? I'm tired. What am I missing?

Plus, I've worked for the government (city and State and my mother worked for the State and Federal) and they are all grossly top heavy, action deficient and solution-absent.

    thank you

Democrat politicians are what they have always been. The problem is the Democrat voters who vote for them. You can feel pity if you want for Democrat voters because they are hoodwinked by the media and propaganda

    ummm................no

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Sadly, the founders should have used the word "government" instead of Congress. The truth ministry is only possible with full Democrat control. Think about that. There is nothing more vital to DC right now than suppressing speech.

Oh... it's rampant for sure. Unfortunately the vast majority comes from our federal government with an alpha (D) behind their name.

I posted the following in another thread on DP and I judged that the sidenotes in that post were appropriate for this thread.

Disinformation comes from both parties at an alarming rate. I mean, have you read in DP about any of the disinformation from members of the GOP (I assume) expressing positive thoughts about assisting Ukraine against Russia and about the Jan. 6 riots, for examples?
