Can you explain to me why this is a good economic measure? Normally the value of a currency is dependent on the demand for the currency from trading partners in order to purchase Russian goods. In this case the strength on the Russian ruble is not due to a sudden demand for Russian goods, if anything the demand has decrease, it is due to things like:
    • Declining imports to Russia because of the sanctions. Russia gets to hold more of it cash in surplus.
    • Government forcing companies to exchange foreign earning for rubles.
    • Restricted currency trading. Don't allow companies to sell rubles.
    • And of course crazy high interest rates.
In any case exchange rates are something that government can manipulate. China, in the past, has purposely kept their Yuan low in order to export more goods to the rest of the world. If you want a good indicator of the Russian economy why wouldn't you look are a much better measure such as growth. The Russian economy is expected to contract about 15% this year. That is a measure of domestic production and obviously tied to jobs. Either drastically lower your standard of living or have mass unemployment. Is that a number you really want to celebrate?

You're sadly wrong and your propaganda is nothing new. The ruble is gaining strength because foreigners are buying rubles. This is what happens when the West steals a country's foreign reserves. Russia doesn't want your Euros or Dollars anymore because they can be seized.

Russia, as it turns out, respects private property rights more than the West.

You didn't even bother to address my idea that growth is a much better economic indicator. Exchange rate gives limited insight into the strength of an economy.

Also if you are going to discount everything people say as fake news and western propaganda why even post to a western audience? Why not just post on Russian boards where you can all discuss using the same news sources?

If Russia respects property rights why have you driven so many Ukrainians out of there homes and country. How much property damage has Russia done with their bombings of cities and infrastructure? How much personal property has Russia destroyed?

Well...in regards to your last paragraph....you're correct.

But...in Russians' philosophy...they are within their rights doing what they're doing in Ukraine....they consider it Russian lands illegally occupied by Ukrainians....they don't even consider those ethnic Russian speakers as true Russians.

Ah, that’s why they’re shooting at and killing civilians and destroying private property in the Ukraine.
    Respect.

The West needs to “steal” every last penny of Russian money and property outside of Russia to pay for weapons for the Ukraine and to rebuild it after Russia loses this war.

I don't want to hear :icon_shithappens: from the peanut gallery about civilian losses and property damage after the Ukrops waged genocide on the people of the Donbass for 8 ****ing years straight.

And now you people want to support the same Nazis that did it and used civilians as human shields.

You are wrong. As always. Russia was committing war crimes in Ukraine since 2014.

All the "Ukrops" did was defend themselves against attacks launched from 'separatist' territory, where the Russians used human shields to incriminate the Ukrainians.

The scale and barbarity of this invasion of Ukraine is far in excess of the violence and deaths that occurred over those 8 years, and it is all based on a heap of fascist lies coming from the Kremlin.

This is the crucial factor these denialists refuse to see.

It doesn't matter much what's happening day to day in Rusya, nor with its currency. It's one part of the big picture .. and that picture includes Chiner and India.

Toilet ratios are even worse in India and Chiner, which is what makes them stronger than us.

Why? China has manufacturing, but who does the design and engineering? Who invests into retooling plants and organizing supply chain? What makes you think companies from the west can’t just find factories for hire in other countries, especially if the U.S. and the target country create the necessary legal framework?
China is very depended on the west and can start to decline rapidly if the west starts a serious divestment campaign.

    Bingo.

It's incredible to watch the denial, in the meantime. I'm no fan of our chilly horse riding pal to the North, and would prefer to retain Euro/American dominance, yet even I can see what's happening - and what will happen, as plain as day. If someone like myself can see it so easily, and with no desire for the inevitable outcome, then the oblivion we're seeing in these threads has to be deliberate.

You wonder what scares them the most. I have my suspicion it's mostly fear of losing a comfortable First World West lifestyle. Which is diagnostically fascinating (to me), because it's primarily coming from the same people who claim to be against capitalism and excessive consumption etc.

    WAS.

When you can join forces with Russia, India, all of Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand (which is exactly what's going to happen), dear little Europe and America will seem like the powerless peasants.

Have you ever seen a bunch of homeless people trading with each other into prosperity?

And I think your list of regions is very, very optimistic, to put it mildly. ;)

Unless you're so old it won't matter, you're going to be living in a different world in the not terribly distant future. Probably wise to work on your personal resistance, so the shock won't be as brutal.

    Also ...

    1) Your unpleasant bigotry directed towards non-Western nations and cultures, is on plain display.

    2) On the contrary, it's likely an underestimation. Some Western nations will take their allegience where they need to.
