If I have a business should I have the right to decide who can and cannot come into my store? Should I have the right to ban black people or Muslims from my store? Should I have the right to ban Jews from my gas station? Should I have the right to ban Chinese or Indians from my hotel?
To answer the poll, as long as its not against any of the agreed federal protections, then i don't see a reason why not. If i ran a business id discriminate against service based on ability to pay.
You know what? A private business is a private business. It wouldn't be about "discrimination", but about customer selection. There are clubs where you cannot enter without a credit card with a coverage of at least 100,000 US$. It's a form of discrimination, but no leftist organization protests about it ...
There are at least five states in the USA that have no civil rights laws. They allow discrimination based on nationality, race, religion, ethnicity, gender. If the supreme Court strikes down the civil Rights act discrimination in these five states will automatically be legal
If the supreme Court strikes down the federal civil rights act, discrimination in at least five states will become automatically legal
Gerrymandering is a federal issue. It really can't make a red State suddenly turn blue as far as state politics goes
Kudos to you Ron, I think you may have started a great discussion/debate. Now I have to think this over a bit.
We usually have the popular vote in states cause our policies just make since to most. From my understanding, gerrymandering has a greater effect on state elections then federal ones.
Discrimination based on race, religion, nationality, gender, is a backwards, disgusting concept that has no place in our modern American society.
I would say yes, BUT with one very important proviso. You would have to post a clearly visible sign at your business stating what groups you are discriminating against.
A private enterprise is subject to private property laws. You can 'ban' anyone you like, for any reason.
Sure, but how could you EVER prove it? Unless the business owner/representative declares the reason, there's no legal footing.
Should you or the president have the right to declare you or him will pledge to select for a Supreme Court nomination because of their race and gender. And then follow through... would you get away with it? He did.
Many businesses do remind customers of the fact that they're entering private property, and thus the property 'owner' has the right to refuse entry or service to anyone, at any time, for any reason.
Only from government. Individuals haev the right to discrimiunate for any reason they like whether it is disgusting or not. What has no place in our society are laws which discriminate against people by forbidding a select miniority from practicing discrimination. These are the laws you support.
The would you also mandate people to wear a sign declaring which business they will discriminate against and why? If not you asre being hery hypocritical
If you want to discriminate, it cannot be based on race, national origin, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or creed. You can discriminate against all obese people, no shoes, no shirt, no service, or coat and tie required, or any other group that is not protected under the 1964 Civil Rights Act of 1964. But the better question is, why should businesses discriminate against anyone, assuming the customer has the ability to pay.
Yes you can discriminate again any of the first people you mention. You just cannot do so if you own a business. The better question is actually why we allow and support laws by government which discriminate against a minority? Few business owners would discriminate against minorities and those who do are only hurting their business so why do we allow these laws which forbids them?
