Listening to the Abott presser, it sounds like they are saying that there are no real solutions that they are willing to consider. The mental health suggestion sounds nice, but would that stop people like this shooter? I doubt it. They say they burned over half a billion dollars to "harden" schools and yet people can walk into schools with rifles......? Where did all that money go?

Should there be a mental health evaluation for first time gun buyers?

I'm curious how this happened. Apparently the "one person in the audience" was none other than Beto O'Rourke, one of, if not THE most famous Democrat in Texas. Were you unaware of that when you posted? Or were you deliberately trying to obfuscate that fact? Did you see a video and not recognize him? Did you just read about this incident elsewhere and pass along the description you read? What went wrong here?

What is legal is an arguable opinion and decisions tend to be decided by the courts which may later change their decision or be over-ruled by higher courts or juries. Even then, as the original democrat Andrew Jackson showed, the authority of the courts is only a subjective moral power which can be ignored.

Subjective morality is the reason for a balance and separation of powers in the Constitution. It doesn't matter if Desantis does everything he can get away with because his power is balanced by the other branches of government and limited to his own state of Florida. What you describe is forcing leftists own subjective morality on everyone else without any limit to the leftist's power. Floridians voted Desantis into office and leftists get upset that Floridians aren't doing what leftists want them to.

This is what Putin and Russia is doing. Russians are upset that Ukrainians aren't behaving and voting fot he government they want them to. So, Russia invaded to force Ukraine to have the government they want them to have.

A reduction in frequency or severity of a mass killing attack is not nothing. How on earth do you have such a black and white view on this?

As far as rapid killing weapon. I have already provided my examples of why guns continue to be used as a primary killing weapon.

All other factors being equal, you cannot kill more people in the span of a minute with a knife, a club, a bat, than a gun.

Bombs take more time to set up and have an increased risk for the killer.

Cars have more legit uses, are already regulated and tracked, already have insurance requirements.

Your guns won't protect you when the surprise mass killer gets the drop on you. Or when there are so MANY of them in the streets due to increasing escalatory violence.

People like you say we can't restrict guns, fine.

I SAY WE CAN'T RESTRICT PEOPLE.

I saw the presser LIVE and since he didn't have his name printed on his back, it was pretty much impossible to know who it was, especially when his face was turned away from the camera.

And so what if it was him? What exactly are you fuming about?

Someone has to call out Abbott for his failures, and OBVIOSULY his own party will not. Not only will they not own the issue, they are offended when others ask about it. That guy totally lost it during the presser. Turns out he is the mayor, so the shooting happened in his town under his watch. He should be asked why the schools in his town are not "hardened".

 

I go by the standard, if multiple people (4+) die at the same place around the same time. School or other venue does not matter to me.
