Alright, so once again.. give refer me to the Supreme Court ruling which states that the current restrictions on fully automatic weapons (state or federal) are unconstitutional?

You argued that it's a constitutional infringement, yet the people who formally interpret what is and is not a constitutional infringement don't seem to agree with you.

Do you have any practical experience with the types of firearms you are discussing here?

Oh really, do you have an example of one person doing that kind of damage with a shotgun?

How many shells does a shotgun usually hold before it has to be reloaded? What kind of range does a shotgun have when being fired?

In terms of firepower, the two aren't even close to being comparable

A right can't be taxed. The court ruled that.

It depends on the target. If the target can't shoot back, a single shot shotgun has all the firepower required.

There was a shooting at a Russian university where the shooter used a pump shotgun.

Yes, I have fired an AR-15 before, and I can tell you that even someone with little firearm experience has range and accuracy capable of outgunning trained police officers (just as what occurred recently). I can also say one definitely doesn't need a high capacity magazine for self defense.

However, my experience with the weapon is besides the point. I've never fired an RPG before, but I can't say that lack of experience would make a reasonable argument for allowing teenage civilians to purchase them without any kind of license

A firearm is only as accurate as the shooter. The AR-15 isn't some magical weapon that turns the average person into Chesty Puller.

That's a musket, not a crack barrel shotgun...lol. Of course you don't know the difference.

Notice how for crime statistic purposes, latinos are lumped in with whites, but for affirmative action and social program benefit preference programs, they aren't.

So does that make this guy a white supremacist?

Is this how the media is dancing around the tranny thing?

They're the same thing. His mental illness is his transgenderism.

Why are you so certain of this?

That's only if you're using a weird, non-standard "ages 1-19" definition for "children". Personally I wouldn't call 18- & 19-year-olds "children", and I don't think it's honest to count their (mostly gangbanger) homicides and suicides as deaths of "children" to pump up statistics like the one you're citing now. YMMV.

That's not quite accurate, but you're not too far off. You can't purchase a handgun from an FFL until you're 21. You can purchase a handgun from an individual who resides in your same state at 18 / 19 / 20 and be perfectly in compliance with all federal laws. source: May an individual between the ages of 18 and 21 years of age acquire a handgun from an unlicensed individual who is also a resident of that same state? | Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (atf.gov)

and even that FFL rule was recently overturned by the 4th Circuit: Appeals court rules handguns can be sold to 18-year-olds (nypost.com), so I guess at this exact moment it sort of depends on which state you live in.

I'm a little fuzzy on your proposal here. Is it your opinion that all semi-auto weapons are "designed for the purpose of killing people in mass numbers"? That would, BTW, include the guns on the hips of most cops in America. Are you saying they're carrying around weapons of mass destruction? Or is it more likely that they just selected the optimal weapon they could to provide for their own protection while allowing them to do their jobs?

And yet, police departments all across the country issue their officers "high capacity magazines" for those officers' protection. Ever pondered why that is? Do you think they're just equipping their officers to kill as many people as possible?

I’m just trying to get a feel for your knowledge base. When you say things like “The question is whether or not it should be legal for a person to own a weapon capable of killing 15 to 60 people without being stopped. My opinion is no, a weapon with that kind of firepower should require a license to own” you are essentially saying the majority of firearms should be licensed. There are few firearms incapable of killing 15 people in a controlled environment. The Virginia Tech shooter demonstrated this fact. The most innocuous firearm I own, a lever action .22 lr is plenty capable of killing 15 people in an enclosed controlled environment like these school shootings. It’s a mistake to believe doing away with AR-15’s would stop school shootings. There are a plethora of firearms just as capable or more capable of inflicting the same damage. Most forget that the Columbine shooting that ignited this all started as a failed bombing.

This nut didn’t outgun any cops. He entered the school without any shots being fired. The armed resource officer who “engaged” the nut outside the school did not fire his weapon and neither did the nut. He (the nut) apparently did his business of killing kids while law enforcement planned their assault for about half an hour. They then breached the classroom where he had killed all the kids and shot him dead.

Can you explain why one definitely doesn’t need a standard capacity magazine for self defense.

Can you explain this comment from you in the context of the existing 2A?

“People have a right to own a gun for self defense, but it's not a right to own a weapon designed for the purpose of killing people in mass numbers.”

How would it be enforced?? What about their 'freedoms" and "rights"??

It is noteworthy that a lot of folks here have a lot of knowledge about weapons. and like to discuss them............... avoiding the human component of the side effects of having a nation a wash wit weapons.

Nothing will change.........regardless of how many mass shootings take place. Guns are almost worshiped in this country...........as they represent power and control..........and " strength" Guns seem to equate masculinity for some.Guns Make them fel "tough "........and "brave".

No one seems interested in understanding why guns are so important to Americans..............and to such an extreme.............while even a suggesting of commonsense gun control is too terrifying for these gun fanatics. The culture is dominated by violence in all forms so guns are just a part of it.

One should not live in the era when the constitution was written and phrased...........as life was totally different then............yet .........there is a desperate attempt to stay in that era when it comes to weapons...
sending "thoughts and prayers to the victims is an exercise in futility.

Guns don't "save" lives...........they destroy them. Someone is always hurt in any weapons interaction.

A single shot shotgun must be reloaded after each and every shot. :) These were 7-10 year old kids locked in a classroom. Range is irrelevant unless this was a huge classroom. A single shot shotgun vs. unarmed kids is a massacre unless the gunman is a complete idiot. Slugs, O0 buck, or 0000 buck from a 12 gauge shotgun would all be more lethal in this scenario than 5.56/.223. In China there have been numerous stabbing incidents that resulted in 7-10 deaths.

How does this discussion of weapons help society or the multitude f victims from gun violence?? Is it something like: the more knowledge (and skill) one has........the larger number one can plan to slaughter in one fell swoop??

You can find those statistics online, Doof.

Further, the reasons behind suicidal ideation, attempts and completion are largely because of how people treat one another. This is why teaching tolerance is so important to some of us. YMMV.

So ... follow me along on this one, boss: white men commit suicide at a much higher rate than black, hispanic, and asian men. Is that because people are treating white men worse than minorities?

Figure 2. Age-adjusted suicide rates for males, by race and ethnicity: United States, 1999 and 2017
    [IMG]
source: Products - Health E Stats - Suicide Rates for females and males by race/ethnicity: United States: 1999 and 2014 (cdc.gov)

Next maybe we can discuss what light your theory can shed on the mistreatment of men vs women

Off topic. Start a thread to discuss Suicide and the factors involved. It would be a good topic for a thread.

I’m attempting to point out banning a class of weapon will not have the desired effect or the effect those ignorant of weapons think it will. I would much prefer we do things that will be effective at reducing violence and death than do things that only make a demographic feel good about “doing something “.

I think anyone who is serious about debating policy on anything should have some understanding of the basics. Without some understanding of the basics, more often than not you end up with unintended negative consequences that could have been avoided with more basic knowledge and understanding.

Remember all the threads and posts saying people without knowledge of virology and epidemiology should stay out of Covid policy making? Why should the opinions based on ignorance or false information about weapons and violence be part of firearm policy debate?

Read the post I was responding to: "... the reasons behind suicidal ideation, attempts and completion are largely because of ..."

We ARE discussing suicide and the factors involved.

ETA: BTW, his post, like your posts here and here, all share a very similar vibe of trying to justify the tranny shooter as some sort of victim in all of this. It's still disgusting.
