Guns are banned during Trump's upcoming speech at the NRA conference

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the National Rifle Association's Annual Leadership Forum on Friday. But audience members at the group's annual meeting, being held this year in Houston, won't be able to carry guns during his address.

The conference is going ahead in the shadow of Tuesday's mass shooting at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school that killed at least 21 people — including 19 students.

According to the NRA, the Secret Service is taking control of the hall during Trump's speech and is prohibiting attendees from having firearms, firearms accessories and knives. Ammunition, laser pointers, pepper spray, toy guns, backpacks and other items also won't be allowed.

........I thought the NRA's solution to gun violence is more guns? The more people carrying guns to safer we all will be. If I have a gun, and you have a gun, and I know you have a gun, and you know I know you have a gun, and you know I know you know I have a gun, and grandma has one, and the guy selling popcorn at the theater has one, and the drunk guy sitting at the bar who is getting agitated has one, and the road rage driver who just got cut off on the highway has one, everything will be cool.

If everyone at Trump's speech has one he should feel uber secure, like no worries. Cuz more guns make the world awesome, don't they?

Guns have become the leading cause of death for American kids

Firearms were the leading cause of death for kids one and older for the first time in 2020, the most recent year for which CDC data is available.

Why it matters: The firearm death rate among children is steadily rising, as more kids are involved in gun-related homicides like Tuesday's mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, as well as suicides and accidents.

By the numbers: Nearly two-thirds of the 4,368 U.S. children up to age 19 who were killed by guns in 2020 were homicide victims, per the CDC. Motor vehicle crashes, formerly the leading cause of death for kids one and older, killed nearly 4,000 children.

I guess we need more guns.

If the Secret Service could just provide protection everywhere, all problems would be solved.

Either they are not good guys, or their argument about good guys with guns makes things safer is BS.

wouldn't more guns make the current legitimate president only liberal pedophile groomers think trump lost. didn't you see "20000 mules?") safer? it is a legitimate question. our billionaires need to be protected from gun violence the way we protect our school children, with more guns.

By the NRA's logic if everyone had a gun the SS wouldn't be necessary.

    Hmmmm.

I am pretty sure that no one at the NRA would agree with the words you are falsely putting into their mouth.

I wonder why it is that people do not let their political opposites speak for their positions? Would you let the devil teach you about scriptures?

The NRA has managed to do two things in the last 40 years:

1- Associate gun ownership with freedom.

2- The deaths that result from the proliferation of guns are the price to pay for being more free.

This propaganda is rejected in every advanced nation on this planet... except in the US.

They've made their position clear. The logical extension of their argument is the more guns the safer we are.

I have heard their position, and I do not derive that from their position even remotely.

    Because........of course you don't.

There is something profoundly dangerous at work here. It is an ideology embedded in the very idea of gun rights as envisioned by people like LaPierre, Paxton, and Pirro: a vision that armed citizens, and not the state, represent the ultimate guarantors of freedom and civil peace.

This gun rights ideology has become embedded both in Republican politics and in the culture of American gun ownership: an all-consuming political identity that has broken American politics. The gun rights ideology represents a dark vision of society — essentially the abolition of collective security and a state monopoly on violence in favor of individuals acting as laws unto themselves.

For some, this works just fine; for many others, including those vulnerable people like children who cannot defend themselves, it can amount to a death sentence.

The gun rights ideology and its dangers
The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is a US government-sponsored think tank that works to advise and assist war-torn countries in transitioning to peace. In a publication on how to arrive at a secure post-conflict environment, it highlights “legitimate state monopoly over the means of violence” as a “necessary condition.” If the government cannot bring armed individuals and groups to heel, and exercise control over violence, a return to civil conflict and anarchy becomes more and more likely.

I am not sure what this cut and paste has to do with anything being discussed, but the bottom line is that you as their opponent cannot credibly speak to their position. All you do is misrepresent their position.

There is not much else to say on the matter.
