The lack of guns is not to protect the people in that crowd. It is to protect the former President speaking to that crowd, who as we all know could be the target of assassination.

We all know there are literally thousands of unhinged persons who would fly across the country and sacrifice their own lives for a chance to try to take him out.

Heck, I would not be least bit surprised if there were two or three separate would-be assassins in the crowd, if one day it was announced on the national news that guns were being allowed to the speech.

You can't look at the absolute number, you have to adjust for population.

Mass shooting is 4 or more victims. But the US has nearly 13 times the population of Australia so we can't use 4. To compare apples to apples you need to multiply 4x13 and only count shootings over 52 people.

School kids have been a target of assassination for many decades now.
    Where's the concern?

School kids are a lower value target.

I'm sure someone like you will disagree.

The Secret Service is apolitical, and this is their decision. Trump doesn't have a vote on his protection. He can have an opinion, at most. SS is in charge.

Yes, the real victim would end up being the secret service agent who has to jump in front of Trump to take the bullet.

If they decide they don't want the crowds to have guns there, then the decision should be up to them.

I think what you're missing is the OBVIOUS fact that the argument "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun" is complete bullshyte. And that those who repeat it most often would NEVER live by it themselves.

Plus that those who are gullible enough to believe it are ... too gullible to be taken seriously.

The larger point is the NRA's use of the "good guy" canard is just another marketing ploy to convince people they should buy a gun. Studies show more guns equates to more gun violence.......both accidental and purposeful.

i understand the point and the desperate push in the OP for a “gotcha” moment but this fails as ALL ex presidents have a super high security detail and obviously a crowd should not be armed

What percentage of overall guns (est at 400,000,000) are used to commit fatal crimes in the US?

That's because Presidents don't believe in the mantra. NOBODY does. Except for a few gullible pro-NRA fanatics. I believe the "gotcha" is to make fun of those.

I am not a “fanatic” and I actually agreed with some of the points on a gun control thread you made so don’t put me in that group
let’s forget about politics for a second

if you have an active shooter and nobody else has a gun how do you stop the shooter?

    with another gun?

    with the power of love?

    some other way?

don’t answer with gun control laws because I said how to stop, not how to prevent and unfortunately we don’t have time machines

Guns are banned and not allowed in schools...

According to the NRA, the Secret Service is taking control of the hall during Trump's speech and is prohibiting attendees from having firearms, firearms accessories and knives. Ammunition, laser pointers, pepper spray, toy guns, backpacks and other items also won't be allowed.
The Secret Service told NPR in a statement at the time that the agency has the "authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protected, including those located in open-carry states."

By law, “under the direction of the Secretary of Homeland Security, the United States Secret Service is authorized to protect” a former president and their spouse.

What are you talking about? I didn't say you were. My post is NOT about you.

You don't. Even if you HAVE a gun you likely won't either. The guy in Uvalde had plenty of trained police with guns for almost an hour right on site, and they DIDN'T. There were plenty of people with guns in the Virginia Tech and the Colorado movie theater shootings, and they didn't. The Fort Lauderdale Airport mass shooting lasted for about 60 seconds with armed security personnel all over the terminal. The purpose of gun control is to REDUCE the number of mass shootings and REDUCE the number of people who die in each instance. And to do this, we need to take ALL the measures that I outlined.

Read my proposals in the gun control thread, and focus on the part in bold at the top of the OP.
