According to the NRA, the Secret Service is taking control of the hall during Trump's speech and is prohibiting attendees from having firearms, firearms accessories and knives. Ammunition, laser pointers, pepper spray, toy guns, backpacks and other items also won't be allowed.
The Secret Service told NPR in a statement at the time that the agency has the "authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protected, including those located in open-carry states."

Exactly. Presidential security is not something that is up for discussion. An attack on a president, current or past, is an attack on the USA. It matters little how much an individual loves or hates said president.

And, btw, once a president, always a president.

So..........what you're saying is the absence of guns makes the Big Liar safer. Think about that for a moment. If no guns makes one safer it's doublethink to suggest more guns (the NRA's position) makes one safer?
The NRA exists for one purpose. To ensure more guns get sold. They'll say anything and do anything to achieve that goal. Do they care more humans beings will suffer the consequences? Absolutely not.

 

Speaking of no-brainers, firearms being prohibited from a venue where anyone is speaking makes the speaker, and everyone in the room, safer. Now think "outside the venue" as it were, and ask yourself if the NRA's position on gun possession makes logical sense?

 

Life is not an auditorium where you can control who enters and who leaves and who has what when they enter and leave.

By the way, the Secret Service carried guns so it was not entirely a gun free zone.

 

Somehow you failed to make the logical connection that the presence of guns inside and outside the venue makes people less safe. Which makes the NRA's position counter factual.

 

People are allowed to carry guns during the convention. They are only forbidden from carrying them during Trump's speech.

But, to your point we have reached the point in America where we can either place "some" controls on guns OR we have to build society on the model we've built our Airports.

OR, accept that it's unsafe to go anywhere in public and that there is a chance that when we send our kids to school in the morning they won't be coming home that night.
