These so called officers who stood in the hallways, will have to live with the deaths of 19 children and two teachers for the rest of their wretched lives?!! I would not want these so called officers patrolling my neighborhood?!! I hope it was not cowardice, but stupidity on the part of the so called officers?!!

Police commander made 'wrong decision' not to breach classroom doors during elementary school shooting, official says (Duh?)

(CNN) While a gunman was inside adjoining classrooms with children at a Texas elementary school, a group of 19 law enforcement officers stood in a hallway outside and took no action as they waited for room keys and tactical equipment, a state official said Friday.

"The on-scene commander at that time believed that it had transitioned from an active shooter to a barricaded subject," Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Col. Steven McCraw said.

"From the benefit of hindsight where I'm sitting now, of course it was not the right decision. It was the wrong decision. There's no excuse for that," he said.

While officers waited outside adjoining classrooms at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, children inside the room repeatedly called 911 and pleaded for help, he said.

"The belief was there isn't anybody living anymore and that the subject is now trying to keep law enforcement at bay or entice them to come in" and shoot them, he said.

The damning revelation explains the lengthy wait between when officers first arrived to the school at 11:44 a.m. and when a tactical team finally entered the room and killed the gunman at 12:50 p.m. The tactical team was able to enter using keys from a janitor, McCraw said.

Nineteen students and two teachers were killed Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde before the team killed the gunman, ending the deadliest US school shooting in almost a decade.

Officials initially praised the law enforcement response and noted that the carnage could have been worse. But revelations from McCraw and from DPS regional chief Victor Escalon a day earlier revealed major flaws in the response and contradictory information.

Emergency protocol established since the Columbine school shooting of 1999 is to end the threat as quickly as possible because fatalities occur in seconds to minutes.

"The levels of failure are just incredible, beyond belief," said Anthony Barksdale, the former acting Baltimore police commissioner.

The shooting in Uvalde is the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre and at least the 30th shooting at a K-12 school in 2022. The attack came less than two weeks after a racist mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, and has left Americans grieving yet again and many renewing calls for gun law reform.

If you've never actually done this portion of that job, you look pretty silly pretending to know how to do it. Internet black belts are everywhere.

This makes my blood boil. Even if he's not actively shooting people anymore, they knew he had just shot a bunch of little kids, and that it was likely that at least some of them were bleeding out, watching the minutes of their golden hour tick away, while they hung out in the hallway and milled around outside.

    Cops being Cops...
    Inexcusable...
Especially on a Slow Day for their "Usual Patrol Duties" (Shaking Down Girls for Sex at Traffic Stops and Killing Innocent Black People in Cold Blood)...
Cops really dropped the ball on this one...

While I am not willing to bet on it there is a conspiracy theorist within me that says it's almost as though they wanted a high body count.

If the body counts not very high it doesn't Garner much national attention to push for stripping people of their guns

So what do you think about laws that ensure that only cops and criminals have guns?

Epoch News has a story today about how the Border Patrol guy was texted by his wife who was in the school and he went over and got his wife and the kids out. Yes, the plot thickens...this was a scripted event, and not the first of its kind.

That's a bridge too far for me without some concrete proof.

But it does make you ask questions when they know there is a school shooting going on they just sit there with a thumb up their ass

Yes, I'm sure Sasquatch plotted all of it. Some of us actually have respect for the victims here, no matter what your favorite lunatic rag has to say about the subject. You should join us when you develop the intellectual honesty required to do so.

Yes it is, but if Epoch has printed the story it might have some kind of foundation. The main mission is to keep the story going in the public mind until the next big news story.

They rely upon the appeal to emotion capturing most viewers/readers. Strong emotion keeps rational skills weak.

I'm glad you admit that your own chosen source relies on appeals to emotion without any actual rational basis. Yes, your favorite source choses to try to keep rational skills weak.

I’m not surprised that people who have never done a thing will have a poorly formed opinion. I’m saying having an opinion with no proper information is purely emotionally driven and silly.

I’ll need a lot more to go on to decide.

And there were plenty of parents outside who were willing to take action, but the cops arrested and tazed them instead for making them look bad.

I get what you're saying.... It's easy to drive from the backseat or Monday morning quarterback.

But they're sitting there listening to gunshots and they know that children are dying inside. My dad used to tell me that you strike while the iron is hot and you make hay while the sun shines.

Want to know why no one is saying defund firefighters or all firefighters are bad?

Because they run into a burning building instead of standing outside and preventing parents from trying to save their children.

Some of these cops should be charged. Imagine telling a parent they cannot go after their child under threat of being tazed while your colleagues go save their children. I usually support cops but this is indefensible, well… it should be at least

This story is becoming more about what the cops didn't do as opposed to what guns and magazines the shooter used. And if the pictures of the guns the shooter used are correct then it was not an AR15 he used which is probably why the media is calling them AR15 style guns.

If officers do nothing, they are blamed.

If they try to do something and enforce the law, they are blamed. Easy to make one mistake.

People are expecting police to be perfect robots. Unrealistic expectations, like many in the Left so often have about government.

They were scared is my guess. The first responding cops got shot. I'm certain they'd never been in the situation before. Maybe they'd never even used their weapons before.

I'm not defending them, just offering a down-to-Earth reason for what they did that doesn't rely on idiotic conspiracy theories like a certain poster has mentioned.

    That does sound more logical.

I can sit here and say what I would have done had I been there and had a gun but of course I wasn't and I don't know because I've never been there.

But I am just an average Joe citizen, the police are the ones that we are told that when they hear gunfire they run towards it not away from it
