I don't think we're there yet... but I do appreciate your recognition that we'd be better off being more politically independent from eachother and your thoughtfulness in a fair separation. If it comes to that, this sort of thinking is steps to doing it without a big war.

I think we could go a long way toward preserving the union and avoiding the above mess (it would be messy) by granting and accepting that not all Americans have the same values and cant all be expected to live by the same laws. Different cultural regions would be a lot happier with more political autonomy. This might require amending the constitution.

It does not matter because secession won't happen. Not enough people will give up their own well being over their beliefs. You may get a few people who would do it but for the most part folks these days only care about their own situation.

All this grumbling is virtue signaling and just going with the crowd. When push comes to shove secession will not happen.

I have said this many times in the past when either side mentions this idea. The problem is regardless of whether a state is blue or red there are still significant people that support the other political leanings. The swing states are a good example with the population divided close to 50/50. Unless you find a way to migrate 50% of the population from some states to another it will never work. Also people are not born with political leanings one way or another. It is not part of the DNA. In the reddest states you will have urban centers that are extremely liberal and the same is true in the blue states with rural areas. My belief is political partisanship is shaped more by your social environment than policy. Most people that talk politics nowadays do not discuss political policies. They rant about social issues or the state of the world. They elect leaders not based on their ability to govern but based on how their social beliefs align with theirs. Our society replaced religion with politics. Essential we are stuck with 2 dueling gods. That is why for so many people it is easy to demonize the other side. How many people here also point to you liberals or you conservatives putting them into a box as the enemy? It is us vs them and the days of discussing policy are long gone. That is why we are in trouble, why have turned politics into the entity that destroyed civilizations in the past.

And by sending abortion to the States, that's exactly what the court did, however the OP isn't upset because he or his state will be effected, he's upset because on this one issue, he can't impose his will on everyone. So when the madness clears, he'll forget about secession and concentrate on imposing his side's will on everyone else.

And yes, it would require amending the constitution by amending out the incorporation doctrine established by the 14th Amendment. Do that, and blue states could ignore the 1st and 2nd amendments and enforce their own regime on their citizens.

 

Well get upset about that then, when there is an actual movement to ban abortion nationwide. But that's not what Dobbs does and it's silly to act like it does.
