Why don't we admit the obvious and split the country into two?

It seems to me we've reached an irretrievable political split in the USA so why not make that split a literal one and make two brand new countries?

We could call them the Assembled States of America and the New Republic of America or something like that.

One could be pro-choice and have limited access to weapons, some kind of universal healthcare, respected rights for LGBTQ people. The usual stuff, kind of like Canada I suppose.

The other could have anti-abortion laws, unlimited access to weapons, no state-sponsored or supported healthcare system. No rights for the LGBT community.

We're almost there already so why not make it a physical reality.

We could give all current US citizens six or twelve months to make up their minds which new country they and their minors and dependents would like to be a citizen of. On segregation you'd get a new passport and that would be that.

You could maybe visit each country on some kind of reciprocal arrangement but if you want to switch from one to another you'd go through the same visa, green card, citizenship process just like anyone coming from a foreign country now.

Wouldn't that just make everyone a lot happier and put an end to this endless spiral of bickering and resentment we seem to be trapped in?

And just like I pointed out in the other thread the reason why those cockamamie idea will never work is well I'll just pick one.....

You have families with homesteads that have been in their family for generations that own hundreds if not thousands of acres of property.

Do you think they're going to just agree to uproot and take whatever property this fantasy government of yours would choose to dole out to them in exchange?

If you don't like "lefties" you can get to live in your own country where there aren't any.

It seems to me that's what everybody really wants so why not make it a reality?

Although the idea does sound appealing to have a nation with actual secure borders while the former Confederate States of America could take in all the illegals they could possibly absorb until they go belly up.

So bring it up for a vote I'm game

In practical terms, what's the difference between what you are proposing and simply doing it via the States. Your state, rather than breaking away to join Canada or whatever, can simply have all the abortions you could ever want. You already can do that now, so why break up the country when you can already do what you want on that issue?

 

See, we're starting to agree on something so it's obviously not that terrible of an idea?

 

I'm just sick of all the arguing. I think this solution would go a long way to prevent that.

Jokes aside, if anyone wants to live in Lefty-land, they can just move to Los Angeles or other similar locations. Republicans have no voice here!

Instead of making this about lefties and righties, why not take the idea at face value and try to see how it might make everybody, on both sides of the isle a lot happier and more content?

It's entirely voluntary. You would get to choose.

i don’t like it because both of the new countries would end up being extreme in one direction or the other. Both leftist and rightist policies suck when taken in their entirety. Let’s keep the country United, vote every manipulative turd of a politician out of office and vote in a new batch, destroy the 2 party system, and finally get some reason and compromise back into government.

I do not even know you personally so I don't know if I would like you or not. A few of my friends are Democrats it does not mean that I do not like them I just don't agree with their choices

What I do not like is the policies that you vote for. If we're going to do this divorce there must be terms and conditions. The Democrats are the ones who push for illegal immigration so they get to keep them
