Why don't we admit the obvious and split the country into two?

Nah, why wouldn't Democrat statues be defended just because dems want to bury their history?

You should probably thank the United States that you don't have to write your post in German

Those who gave their lives in WWII are rolling over in their graves at how we the people are acting towards each other. More so at anyone even suggesting splitting up the country they fought and died for. Shameful

I disgree. That said, no-one here is calling a "follow us or die" option, more of a "go where you want and be happy" one.

You've come about the closest with your "lefties need to learn to lose" stance. Of all the posters on this thread you're the one who seems only to be happiest when others are miserable. I'm looking at ways where everyone on both sides gets something closer to what they want.

    B) I hope you appreciate the irony of your post as much as I do.

What you just described, the option and opportunity to move to a jurisdiction that aligns with your views, desires, and freedoms is EXACTLY why we have states and a limited Federal Government, and it's precisely why Roe vs Wade was overturned. Let the States decide and let the States compete for citizens and business. Exactly as intended.

It is absolutely terrifying that we have a federalist republic for the exact reasons outlined in the OP... and nobody understands that.

Well, I doubt we will split like the OP is wishing for. The other option is for lefties to leave.

Study the history of the US Civil War and other Civil Wars throughout the world and you'll quickly understand why this doesn't work as easily as you may think it would.

Here's one of many huge roadblocks that will kill any peaceful negotiation on the spot: Who gets the nukes? You going to split them up evenly 50/50? What about the Federal military installations dotted around the country and the world? Just going to compromise and say ok your State gets to keep whatever "stuff" is located within it's borders regardless of what new country they choose to join?

The closest realistic way to achieve something similar to a "peaceful divorce" is to return the nation a government ideology closer in line with the original concept of the US. Recreate "These" United States and not "The" United States. Return nearly all governmental authority back to the States with the Federal government have little to no power over State legislature outside of enforcing some pretty basic laws that all must agree on in order to be part of the overall Union. I mean BASIC laws, none of the current "social" issues are what I would consider baseline laws. Baseline laws as in "no murder, no pedophilia". Yeah we'll give the Feds the power to say no Arkansas you can't make a State law legalizing the Purge movie one day per year or anything like that and stay in the Union.

But outside of that (and likely a couple other basic things that I may be forgetting as I'm just spitballing) EVERYTHING ELSE is a pure State issue. And I mean EVERYTHING else including things that "you" probably think should be Federal. That's about as close as you could realistically get because breaking up into 2 different nations just flat out isn't going to work without armed conflict.

You couldn't get half of this country to agree on whether it's called soda or pop or coke, you really think we'd be able to negotiate a "fair" allocation of military hardware and resources without somebody saying screw this and flipping the table over?

Actually I do understand that. What concerns me is that Roe established an individual and portable right that women enjoyed for 50 years and for the first time I can recall, recognition of an individual right has been rescinded.

I should add I'm in no way affected by this. I'm in my 60s, my wife and I are past any need for family planning and my son emigrated to Australia years ago and has zero plans to return.

What concerns me is the thought that established individual rights can be removed ignoring precedent and by a court that was seated, ostensibly, with this purpose expressly in mind.

People should be able to travel the country without having their individual rights abrogated without due process.

I don't want a woman feeling (or knowing) she can't visit Texas (for example) for fear that if she needs medical care as a result of pregnancy complication she can't get it.

I can see how this court could decide, along similar lines, that a married gay couple is no longer married once they cross a line into a certain state. Or if things hit an extreme that an interracial marriage is similarly invalid.

People can say now, "Oh that will never happen" but that's how a lot of people felt about Roe. There's already talk of a Federal ban on abortion and many agencies trying to seek exactly that. Would this court find such legislation unconstitutional and throw it out on the basis you describe. I think the answer to that is "doubtful" at best.

That's what's concerning a lot of people and why there's even a consideration of "safe havens" not that, in all likelihood, it's ever really going to happen. That said you might start to see state defiance of Federal law. That's been going on on both sides for as long as I can remember and may be on course to get worse as we fail to see the value and consistency of recognizing the mutual contract we have with our government.

lol, the last couple elections has shown both sides are poor losers.

its funny to see both sides acting exactly how the other side acted previously when the tables were turned. You’d think we would have grown up by now and do what is good for the country instead of what is good for politicians. But no, republicans and democrats keep doing the same dumb ****, with the same dumb politicians, election after election.

every 4 years a different group says “well, if you don’t like it then leave the country”. Goofy as hell.

Dems have been the worst. It isn't even close. Even with the last corrupt election Reps came nowhere near the level of dems.

haha, what do you want me to say? On a scale of pathetic from 1-10 with 10 being mass suicide, I’ll give democrats an 8.5 and republicans an 8. There, you get your participation trophy.
