Why don't we admit the obvious and split the country into two?

Nope. Meet the former governor of Virginia, Democrat Ralph "Coonman" Northam:

Democrats never kicked him out of their party, and when people tried to kick his ass out of office, Democrats ran to his defense....:boo:

It’s literally all we need. Everything else becomes possible when the government gets back in its constitutional box.

So, you understand the intent and benefit of a federalist republic, but you don't like the idea that some people may live in states that don't align with your views and desires?

So... what? You want an authoritarian centralist government so long as it institutes only laws and policies you accept and forces those laws on the states?

I mean. You can't have it both ways.

Would you support a law that allowed California or New York to ban gun ownership or do you believe that certain rights are fundamental and should be portable throughout all of the US?

When speaking about the republic, some rights are enumerated to be legislated and enforced federally. The 2nd amendment is one of those federal rights.

We are talking about the 10th amendment however; for those legislative determinations that are not federally protected.

The way I see it, an enumerated right and a subsequently recognized right are no different than a born US citizen and a naturalized one. Once conferred the citizenship should never be taken away.

Having rights that aren't really rights leaves people living on a knife edge. Regardless of whatever technicalities you rely on to perceive any justification to discriminate between the two, that discrimination is unacceptable in my vision for America. Therefore we may need two Americas to satisfy each perspective.

Having a patchwork of fundamental individual rights isn't really a country in my estimation. It's a loose confederacy (not in the historical sense) held within a continent.

We all seek a more perfect union but given the ramifications of that fundamental difference in perspective, I think there is now a real question to be asked whether that can be achieved under the auspice of a singular flag.

Why is it so important to you to establish the protections of those rights at a federal level?

Because I want people to feel like full Americans wherever they travel.

I don't want people thinking "I cant visit this State because X or I can't visit that State because Y".

As previously alluded, that leaves you with a bunch of individual nation-states within the geographic boundaries of a continent.

If some people are happy with that and even want that then OK have their own Confederation.

I prefer to live in a country that's an actual country North to South. Sure there will be regional differences in some laws: speed limits, when you can buy a beer etc. but when it comes to protected rights, they should be universal IMO.

What you are missing is that the right wing wants to control you. That is why they won't support making secession legal.

I know this must be disappointing to you, but I almost can't believe I have to mention it again, but the US is a federation of States, not a unitary country with provinces firmly under the heel of the capital. I honestly don't know how one could take civics, read history, and come up with a different conclusion. We are not going to be able to continue as a country if ALL of us can't accept the structure of the country we are under and that we have to be tolerant of each states solutions to the issues of the day and ways of governing. There is not an alternative to that.

They think they were fooling anyone by saddling your employer between a rock and a hard place with the option of testing you every week which would be incredibly expensive in the long run or forcing you to take the vaccine.

And they think people are stupid enough to buy their excuse oh we're not forcing anyone to do anything. And the court slapped their fascist ass down.

No of course the government wasn't forcing you but they thought we wouldn't notice that they were causing your employer to force you

Government force is good as long as it's forcing you to do something I want you to do.

The post you originally replied to had nothing to do with leaving the country. So yes, my post went sailing over your head. Can’t say I’m surprised.

Why can’t you just move to a state you like? Why be authoritarian about it? What is preventing you from moving to a place that suits you?

I have changed my mind. The South should have had every right to succede from the union and create their own nation. No state should feel forced to stay in this union one minute longer than it takes for their citizens to decide they no longer want to stay in it. I am in favor of an 'amicable divorce' if that is not possible then I believe in as nasty a divorce as it takes to communicate our desire using any means required. The founders were right to decide to leave England and walk away from the King, and this is no different.
