Your world is in direct opposition to the world of the rest of the planet.
I live amongst à diverse population larger then yours and arguably more economically rich. Certainly safer.
    You are not exceptional.

LOL, you live with the illusion of safety you've created. The real world is all around, you could learn from those here but you choose not to.

I truly wish that life in the U. S. today were as tranquil, peaceful, and enjoyable as it seems to be in the rural part of France that you call home now.

In truth, just about EVERYTHING involving everyday life here in the States is much worse than you probably remember it, and I have no comprehensive answers.

But look at us! We have turned our backs on so much of what really DID 'make America great' back WHEN America was great.

Right now, just about the only thing that keeps our society from going even deeper into the toilet than we already are is LAW AND ORDER, and the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to maintain it.

Today we have an especially loathsome, hateful, wretched element that has gained prominence in American society since you left, and the police officers who defend the rest of us from these creatures deserve our loyalty and respect. Thus, the police have mine.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend", and if nothing else, the American police officer is the enemy of all criminals, all of whom are the enemies of a peaceful, law-abiding public.

There is no such thing as overkill in a gunfight or a spider.

It’s almost as if a person is bigger and therefore easier to see than a gun.

Plus it could have been under his clothing or something. The thing is that it was perfectly reasonable for police to assume the guy was still armed. I don’t want police to have to put themselves in harm’s way by constantly questioning whether a perp that has already fired on them is still armed, has run out of ammo, etc. Once fired upon, I want the police to assume the suspect is still dangerous.

I frequently side against cops when they take action that wasn’t reasonably necessary to protect themselves or the public. If this guy hadn’t fired a shot, I would 100% be calling for heads to roll. But he literally ****ing fired a gun at the police. At that point he forfeited the presumption that he’s not an immediate threat to the public.

It is the excessive uncontrolled expression of lawkeeping fuelled by guns and the violence it générates that is the worm in the bud.
Happily I don't have to mix my days' communications with your angst.
Get rid of guns and you will achieve the pursuit of happiness I and half a billion people enjoy.

Well this event has proven you wrong.
BTW it wasn't à gunfight (shades of 19th century mythical terminology).
I mean who in a civilised culture has à GINFIGHT?

First rule is you must comply and be taken in to get the legal process started. There was zero indication this person was going to do that and every indication he was not. Also there’s the whole believing they had already been shot at thing, they did find a gun in the car AFTERWARDS, so it’s very possible he did fire at them already. He wasn’t letting them search him, or talk to him, or even stop him so there’s no way they could have known he didn’t have the weapon still. And then when he suddenly stops and turns around, what do you think the suspect was going to do? If I was in the cops shoes, I would have thought he was turning to shoot too.

Please watch that use of force video posted above. It may open your eyes a little bit, but I have my doubts.

I will be happier than you may believe to get rid of firearms (for which I have no use other than self-defense), just as soon as we FIRST get rid of the 'creatures' that have made the weapons of self-defense necessary in the first place.

I know that it must seem like an infantile 'chicken-and-egg' paradox to you, but few Americans, including myself, would be willing to disarm ourselves while those same 'creatures' run amok. You are fortunate to have relatively few of them in rural areas of France.

    Your problem .
I have decided what I want to live with and made it happen. Life is choices, not traps.
Your are so Lucky to be able to direct your own life...unless you are a woman denied that right by à few politicians.
I am Lucky too. And I don't have to be entangled in your ethical dilemmas.
Which BTW are of your own making. .

Yeah, she thinks defending yourself from being murdered is murder, and if some idiot is shooting at the police they shouldn't shoot him or they're murderers. And unwilling to learn a damned thing, which is pretty comical. That's why you could take over that whole country with a spork.

They all are, strawman. Yes IF.

What could have been "done better" here besides the criminal simply complying with traffic stop, not trying to flee and not using lethal force to avoid capture?

his mom should pay for the cop's coverage, WHY are we not blaming the criminal instead of police, to say I do not understand why he was shot is stupid, we should be asking parents why their kids are crooks and murderers

How would you know anything about me.
Which makes your post nothing more than your own fantasy. Much like the world you created for yourself.

I am reminded of a cynical old saying I came up with a few years ago for a rejoinder...

"If I ruled the world, it would not necessarily be a 'better' place, but it would sure as hell be a DIFFERENT place!"

My 'boomer' generation didn't really come into our voting-strength and prime until about mid-way in the Carter administration. After that, we got a series of incompetent, political-underachievers, including "W" Bush, "Messiah" Obama, his bombastic majesty, Donald Trump, and now, 'Geriatric Joe' Biden. Perhaps it is fair to blame all this misery on my 'boomer' generation... indeed, the last American president I was really happy with was Ronald Reagan, and even he had some faults. Moreover, Reagan was no 'boomer'... no, he was part of America's 'Greatest Generation'.

But, if I ruled the world...? Ah, Pixie, I might think it was a 'Paradise Elysium', but I'm sure that many people would decry it as hell, and me as a tyrannical dictator. Still, if you have achieved something akin to 'Paradise Elysium' in rural France, then hold on to it for dear life and never, ever let it go!

When he fired his gun at the police he became and outlaw wanted dead or alive. The police are trained to stop such threats with all lethal force available and to only stop using that lethal force once the outlaw is on the ground and no longer moving.

Yah there are very few scenarios where I’ll defend the cops killing a suspect who is running away…
And one of those is a suspect who already shot at police. That shows a willingness to kill to get away and makes deadly force more than justified.

Ski mask is a bad justification. Nothing illegal about a ski mask.
It’s the shooting at cops part that makes it justified for me.
