Nether. Trump tried to instigate a political coup to overturn the election and stay in office.
Manchin is protecting his coal mines. Nether one has the people as a whole in mind, both are in it for themselves, not for us or the proper functioning of United States..

Let me explain. I couldn't in good conscience vote for anyone who doesn't want a much smaller government and is willing to embark on a program to reduce its size meaningfully. There is no such candidate ever. I don't care about the details of government. The only thing I want from government is a lot less of it. That is not an option so I don't vote. I just get some entertainment by commenting on politics and government. Politics is worth nothing other than entertainment for me.

I believe that democracy is the best system. I used to go and vote for libertarian candidates but that was a waste of time. I doubt any of them feel like I do. I'm sure none of the republicans and democrats feel like I do. I appreciate your post, though.

I sympathize completely -- and I wasted my vote on Ross Perot, twice -- so I do know what you mean. I am just hoping that we can stop the damage that these radical, 'woke' imbeciles are causing.

2 decrepit old white guys to replace the decrepit old white guy in office? Tough decision. Will always vote, so if those 2 are the choices, third party. Hopefully this scenario doesn't happen.

Go ahead and throw your vote away... everyone should vote third-party at least once in their lives.... Hell, I even did it twice in a row!

LOL. The boomers were barely born when we went to the moon.
If the world is so good as you say, why the need for you to be a MAGA fan?
Why the need to lie about a stolen election.

You boomers believe all kinds of conspiracy theories.

Manchin is a Democrat and votes that way on most topics. The fact he's a little less loony than most Dems.

His influence over the bills that he eventually does cast a vote for is important to note. It may not always work that way if the Democrats increase their Senator count, but he's proven himself to be a moderate and willing to compromise and we need politicians like that oh so badly these days. This fanatical my-way-or-the-highway bullshit we're seeing from the diehards on both sides is disgusting.

I like Manchin, he’s different. He votes pretty much in line with the way the people who sent him to Washington want him to vote. He actually represents the people of his state. So many elected officials in Washington only represent their political party, not the people.

As for Trump, I disliked him from day one. It wasn’t Trump’s policies; I was okay with most of those. It was Trump’s 4-year-old brat, his 3rd grade schoolyard bullying personality. It’s like Trump’s parents forgot to teach him any manners. If any of my kids or grand kids behaved the way Trump did, I’d have them across my knee for a good spanking. His persona is ideally suited to a reality TV game show, not being president.

That's one of the things I like about him too. Being a Democrat from a more conservative state, compromise is essential to his staying in office and in favor with his constituents. More and more it seems the idea of compromise is associated with weakness instead of being central to how you run a country with hundreds of millions of people.

I agree. If he was your boss at a private company, his attitude and demeanor would make it a toxic workplace. Even quite a few of his administration employees seem to have no trouble turning on him.

Uh, you are aware that the 'Baby Boom' generation began with those born in 1946... right? And you say, "The boomers were barely born when we went to the moon"...? In 1969, when the first moon landing occurred, the Boomer born in 1946 would have been at least TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD, Dairy -- old enough to vote and old enough to have graduated from college.

I'm a Boomer who is younger than one born in 1946, but by the time of the first moon landing, I'd already had one year in college, was working in a full-time job to pay my own way, and was QUITE well aware of how badly DEMOCRATS could screw up the mightiest, most prosperous nation on Earth under the magnificent leadership of Lyndon Baines Johnson!

Compared to the scheming, conniving excesses and endless stupidity of Lyndon Johnson, Trump is a piker....

And at 23 yrs old, how much did they contribute getting to the moon?
The eldest of them just got out of college.

And the youngest were just learning how to tie their shoes.

You are aware of that, are you not?

Having a tough time walking away from your rather asinine comment that "The boomers were barely born when we went to the moon"...? Anyway, please do enjoy being young, Dairy... you're surely not old enough to remember the first moon landing yourself or you would never have said such a thing. Old age and arthritis await you, eventually....

Well, if the alternative were weak passing out Hillary and old good Joe ... Trump will be the choice!
And actually I sustained Trump against Hillary [also on this forum].

This said, the United States are living what the other great democracies are living: the growth of what we call in Italy "populist sovereignty".
Italian Constitution [correctly] says that Sovereignty belongs to the People, but it adds that the People exercises the Sovereignty according to the Constitution.

    Populism avoids that step.

The populist leader exercises Sovereignty beyond the Constitution in the name of the People.
This is technically possible from the perspective of Constitutional right: it's not "regardless the Constitution", but "beyond the Constitution".
When I studied Constitutional right I found out that what is not written in the Constitution can become a Constitutional custom.

This is dangerous when populists are around.

So ... personally, this time I would vote for a candidate endorsing a correct reading of the US Constitution.
I have had no time to read about the other possible candidates, anyway I wouldn't suggest to vote for Trump this time [I doubt he knows the US Constitution].

Boomers had ZERO input into the moon landing.
    That's a fact.

You are totally brain dead if you think Joe Biden and the democrat party care about "the people". We can do without the 1975 talking points about democrats being for the little guy. The party represents mega elites not average Americans.

As for coal mines I'm all for them. We have more coal than any country on earth we should be using it as an energy source around the world.

I'm of the view that most of those who have turned on him were paid to do that. From Omarosa Manigault and Anthony Scaramucci to that bimbo who perjured herself with her hearsay testimony of Trump choking a secret service agent.

Nothing you say can convince me differently. These people were paid with cash and jobs.

So you think being paid off is more likely than they became disgusted with a despicable man who treated them badly? You do know who Donald Trump is, right? The real Donald Trump, not the version of himself he plays on social media, at his rallies, and in his fund raising emails?

Well... some of us... who were actually working full-time jobs and paying our TAXES could be said to have had some "input" into the moon landing -- but, what you said was that, "The boomers were barely born when we went to the moon". You just won't admit you 'went-off-half-cocked', but it's pretty obvious to everyone else, so, live in your own little world... actually, it's kind of funny. BTW, where were YOU in summer 1969? I was in Houston, Texas, watching the whole moon landing on a black-and-white TV, at a friend's house.... Those were great days, even though the Vietnam War raged on....

You focus (mistakenly, as others have already pointed out) on one item in my list.

Your world was built by us. Cell phones, internet, computers, satellite, networks, GPS, video games, speech synthesis, digital electronics, computer aided design, spread sheets (VisiCalc), music videos, artificial human heart, DNA fingerprinting, compact disks, disposable contact lenses, and on and on.

And what do the millenials and later do? Stare at their phones and tweet foolishness, create self-agrandizing facebook pages, stare at endless tik tok videos, and play computer games all night while sitting in mommys basement.

While we spent our time develping better ways to feed starving nations, your generation sits crying in safe spaces worrying about being offended.

While we looked to people who said "Ask not what your country can do for you...." your generation stands with their hand out wanting everything handed to them.

We earned our degrees honestly. Your generation lounges through college and then reneges on their promises and wants others to pay for their debt.

We worked for civil rights and wanted to "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character". Your generation only sees skin color and uses govt to racially target people.

We built a good world - and you are ruining it.

Yep, designed and built by liberals who change the world.
Not by conservatives who want to stay the same or go backwards.

Those liberals who invented those things were hippies that your crowd wanted to send out of country.
