That's correct. The economy tanked after COVID under Trump's watch, but mainly because of the draconian and ineffectual lock outs and shut downs of business and distribution by Democrat governors and mayors.

Harvard-Harris poll: Six in ten Americans doubt Biden's "mental fitness"

    Post-Cog Biden.

One key to Trump's success was that he has a working brain.

"Almost two-thirds of voters think Biden’s too old for the job, and sixty percent doubt his mental fitness for the presidency:"

"Both Biden and Kamala Harris lose head-to-head against Donald Trump. "

    Looking bad for Dems.

Dems betting odds of retaining the Senate have improved a great deal significantly over the last 3 weeks. I think Dems primary races for these Senate seats went better than the GOP"s did.

January 31: Trump blocks travel from China

    Feb. 2, 2020

“We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

    Feb. 10, 2020

“I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.”

    Feb. 10, 2020

“Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”

    Feb. 26, 2020

“The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

March 11: Trump bans travel from Europe, promises free treatment

March 17: Trump asks workforce to stay home, says he’s always known it was a pandemic

March 24: Trump says he wants country to open by April 12
After tweeting that the “cure” cannot be “worse than the problem itself” as the US economy falters, Trump says on Fox News he would “love to have the country opened up, and just raring to go by Easter”.

Medical experts, including Dr Fauci, have told the media that the virus decides the timeline of a return to normalcy.

The initial 15-day period of social distancing urged by the federal government expires Monday and Trump had expressed interest in relaxing the national guidelines at least in parts of the country less afflicted by the pandemic. But instead he decided to extend them through April 30, a tacit acknowledgment he'd been too optimistic. Many states and local governments have stiffer controls in place on mobility and gatherings.

Trump calls for shutdown until April 30

President Donald Trump is extending the voluntary national shutdown for a month as sickness and death from the coronavirus pandemic rise in the U.S.

March 27: Trump signs $2.2 trillion emergency spending bill

March 30: Trump says administration inherited ‘broken test’ as cases soar

April 2: 6.6 million workers file for unemployment

April 4, 5: Trump pushes hydroxychloroquine

April 13: Trump claims ‘total’ authority over governors on openings, tensions with Fauci

Which were needed to keep the hospitals from being overrun, which still happened anyway but would have been exponentially worse had people not been distancing. The experience my R.N. wife had working at our local hospital, which mimicked reports from hospitals nationwide, pretty much confirms this was the case. I can agree that some states took things farther and longer than may have been needed, but the shutdowns for the first few months were absolutely necessary.

And just so you know, I don't blame Trump for the economic downturn or use it as an argument against him. However, those who try and contrast his pre-COVID economic numbers with Biden's post-COVID economic numbers are being disingenuous.

I can't tell if this is meant to be critical of Trump or praiseworthy, but the things you cite are positive, good and appropriate.

I'm mixed as to the effectiveness of social distancing and masks though I have no real problem with either. Lock downs and shut downs are a whole different matter. The WHO admitted and the experiences of especially some Scandinavian countries showed they had little if any effect, yet they were pursued with a vengeance in many states, notably NY, MI, CA, and maybe Ill. Makes one wonder if deep down, if not consciously, the governors and some mayors understood that small business, entrepreneurship, and churches are the bane of totalitarianism, so 'let's hit 'em while we can.'

I understand the hospital dilemma. However, it makes one question especially the NY governor who could not make full use one of the largest hospitals ever quickly built by Trump in Manhattan or fully utilize the Navy hospital ship Trump sent to NYC while simultaneously sending COVID patients to recover in nursing homes to make bed space, or why he rejected strong recommendations from his staff and medical experts to stock up on ventilators. Sheds some light on his draconian actions that killed people and destroyed businesses but did little if anything to improve COVID.

Trump had no masters, and no debts. He won on his own. And because of that he owed no one but "the people". He was a businessman, not a politician. A person in business is acutely aware of the burden of poorly conceived laws and regulations, and their unequal application. He understood banking, building, and growth, and how the social environment affected people on the ground.
He was not prepared to be a civilian in a government that he mistakenly thought was like his college text books: "government exists to serve the people". In truth "government serves to protect the people in it."
We wonder why we get so many crooked, lousy politicians, who are quite at home in a crooked government. We get the government we deserve.
Unique to our TicTok'ing version of one sided "news", even Trumps haters who really, realily, reallllly hated him, (and like most racists BTW), it is usually a vision created in their heads by someone else - the media.

And he was following the advice from American's "experts" in disease. Who's the dumb ass here again? Our medical establishment. (The same medico's who juice Biden up before press conferences, and claim, "Oh, he's just fine."

    You believe that nonsense? Seriously?

As it turns out, there really was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia

...the Republican-chaired Senate Intelligence Committee released a report with damning details of the extent of cooperation between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence operatives.

The Post reports: “The long-awaited report from the Senate Intelligence Committee contains dozens of new findings that appear to show more direct links between Trump associates and Russian intelligence, and pierces the president’s long-standing attempts to dismiss the Kremlin’s intervention on his behalf as a hoax.” These include a determination “that a longtime partner of Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was, in fact, a Russian intelligence officer.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/19/yes-there-was-collusion/

There was Trump-Russia collusion — and Trump pardoned the colluder
    https://thehill.com/opinion/white-h...ia-collusion-and-trump-pardoned-the-colluder/

I'm sure TFG will be releasing his tax returns as soon as he shows US the warrant from the FBI right?

    All the President's Profiting

No modern president has jumped so directly from the world of business to the presidency as Donald Trump. And in so doing, Trump has refused to do as his predecessors have done: sever ties to the companies or financial interests that may pose, or present the appearance of, a conflict of interest. By keeping his assets in a family-managed trust, which he can revoke at any time, Trump and his family are in the unique position to profit directly from his public service. Special interests in Washington have caught on. Those seeking to curry favor with Trump are not only donating to his reelection campaign but holding fundraisers and galas at his resorts, private clubs and hotels – the proceeds of which benefit him and his family.

To track this new influence-buying and presidential profiteering, OpenSecrets has created this page to track payments to Trump properties from Trump-related entities and beyond.

You understand CONTEXT right? The poster blamed the Democrats (Gov's and Mayors) for the shutdown TFG did.

Too bad TFG didn't follow the playbook Obama left right?

Obama team left pandemic playbook for Trump administration, officials confirm

That is odd. Trump did ban non citizen travel from China and Europe which he can do and is a fully accepted practice during a pandemic. However, Trump did not shut down or lock out one single business, mostly because he does not have the authority. And IIRC his claim of power over the governors (which was incorrect, BTW) was in his getting the businesses back open against the governors' wishes. The governors and mayors were 99% responsible for the economic shut down. About the only thing Trump did was request voluntary working from home "if possible" for a few weeks.

TFG asked for a voluntary stop work for almost 45 days.

True TFG was only responsible for the good things (vaccines) not the bad things (Obama didn't leave me a playbook or testing for Covid)

"Trump resists national shutdown, leaving it up to states" What a "leader" that guy is!

President Donald Trump is resisting calls to issue a national stay-at-home order to stem the spread of the new coronavirus despite his administration’s projections that tens of thousands of Americans are likely to be killed by the disease. One by one, though, states are increasingly pushing shutdown orders of their own.

Trump said Wednesday he wants to give governors’ “flexibility” on whether a stay-at-home policy is the best option for their constituents but acknowledged that he’s looking at limiting air and rail travel between hot spots within the United States. The Republican president remains hesitant to press a unified policy even after the White House released “sobering” new projections on Tuesday that 100,000 to 240,000 Americans will likely succumb to the coronavirus even if current social distancing guidelines are maintained.

Beyond the song and dance and ballyhooing is the inconvenient little fact that the president does not have the power nor authority to order either a stay at home edict or to close private businesses. He does have complete power and authority to keep non-citizens out of the country.

Cool, so we agree TFG is a liar who did not protect US from a deadly virus because he was more worried about winning an election.

Between March and April 2020, 43 governors issued orders directing residents to stay at home and nonessential businesses to close in response to the coronavirus pandemic. All Democratic governors (24) issued stay-at-home orders in their states, while 19 of the 26 Republican governors issued stay-at-home orders.

Pro-Trump counties continue to suffer far higher COVID death tolls

Even with widely available vaccines and newly effective treatments, residents of counties that went heavily for Donald Trump in the last presidential election are more than twice as likely to die from COVID-19 than those that live in areas that went for President Biden. That's according to a newly-updated analysis from NPR, examining how partisanship and misinformation are shaping the pandemic.
