When I was a kid you had to go in some sketchy ghetto to find some nickel bags....now you order it on your phone and a half hour later some Uber driver with a man bun delivers it.

Hi, vman12 for the last time on this particular thread.

I will continue to comment and discuss specifically deaths by gunshot. There are many other ways to view deaths in the United States of America. I could have chosen deaths categorized as due to homicide, disease or automobile. All are worthy of our attention. I did not, however. Of them all, death by gunshot is the choice I have made for study, understanding and comment.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n un-shot.

There are far more instances in which citizens have had to draw / deploy a firearm for self defense than most people realize because:
    - No one wants to draw attention to themselves as possibly being "trigger happy".
    - No one feels the need to report a crime that didn't happen or was stopped.

I've had to draw / deploy my pistol at least 3 times to defend myself against individuals whose intentions were not going to make me or my neighbors any healthier, happier or wealthier.

The last thing you feel like doing after such a stressful encounter is go through the additional stress of talking to the police who may or may not view you as a threat to society or judge you harshly.

    Re:
The chances that your house may burn down or you may get a flat tire are also very small but most people take preventative measures against both. How much is your life or the lives of your loved ones worth to you?

    Thanks,

Yep, going to be another one for the coroner. Drug induced systemic collapse, exposure, self inflicted injury, physical assault? I doubt the last option though. Given the degree of scrutiny and the seriousness of the crime there would be too much risk and little incentive for the arresting Police to cross the line. After all the guy was going to rot in jail for the rest of his life.

Dealt with most of this in this in other posts, primarily with vamn12. I raised two basic points. Firstly that this particular incident had features which, by default meant firearms were likely to be of little assistance. I've listed the details elsewhere so I won't repeat myself here. I've done that enough times already. If needs be you can go back and review previous posts.

Secondly I risk assess. And in my current living situation the risk of violent crime is far, far less than the risk of things like bush fires or first aid emergencies etc. Put simply no-one 'carries' where I live. Even members of organized crime gang don't carry as a matter of course. (As a rule they tend to tool up when they intend to carry out a hit on the 'opposition' and then hide or dispose of the firearm afterwards. Firearms being too hard to get, too valuable and the penalties too severe to risk carrying them routinely.) As a result the risk of myself or a loved one being shot or stabbed etc is waaaay down my list of pressing concerns.

I see you don't understand some things, which is why you're making emotional outbursts. "Arming" is being issued a weapon and no one is issuing weapons. No one is "arming" children. People can CHOOSE to legally own weapons for hunting, plinking, and hobby shooting which has **** all to do with panic.

Try to be more serious and not flailing about in an emotional fuss next time please.

I read a few of your previous Posts and can understand why you feel that you have no compelling need to cary a firearm. I only hope that you'll understand that there are many of us who are not so fortunate as to live in safer communities.

For example, the only way I could afford to quit wasting money on paying rent was to buy an old home in what happened to be a high crime, inner-city neighborhood. I was lucky enough to find an old home on a good street that was only 2 blocks away from my blacksmith shop.
While my immediate neighbors were great, we all had to deal with the hard criminals who lived in the surrounding streets.

I can assure you that having to carry a .45 in addition to drawings, designs, specialized tools I made etc brought me no pleasure but I probably wouldn't be writing this, now, if I hadn't had it with me.

If nothing else, I hope that you'll understand that everyone's risk assessments are different and most of us who carry or have carried find no pleasure in doing what we have reasonably concluded is necessary to protect ourselves and other innocent people.

    Thanks,

It's Canada, not the 51st state.

Many of the people in the small town and on the Reserve are likely to have firearms even if they don't have AR-15s (one of the banned semiautomatics).

My point is we'd be a lot better off if we end the "war on drugs," and drop thoughts of banning abortion and gun-grabbing.

Not in Canada where it's legal. They'll deliver to your door in a hour.

Okay, you were like Wyatt Earp (Hugh O'Brian) and shot the gun out of his hand. :):machinegun:
Well, I suppose. A knife used properly...

You do understand I was kidding—right?

There's always going to be weaklings that carry weapons because they have puny little arms

It's a shame some glorify weapons and killings to score political points, as opposed to trying to prevent knife and gun deaths.

In Canada, it's been decreed by the PM, that Canadians don't have the right to defend themselves.

    Should I post the quote?

    Surely,

"You can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada. It’s not a right that you have,” - Justin Trudeau

Born and raised in USA, added Canadian citizenship. I had a problem with the wannabe king.

Trudeau is trying to goad the Conservatives.

    You should consider:

Try not to pass along misinformation about other countries.

Sure sure, which is why I carry a pistol: Because Tyson Fury's uncle's scorn for people who use weapons does not do anything to stop those people from assaulting people with weapons.

Want to know what does? Returning fire.
