It bring money to 1% of Briton (ppl who live in The City of London, a tiny piece of real estate in the centre of London). Clearly this has zero impact on the shops, hotels and cafes in THE REST OF ENGLAND but you knew this.

You royalists are living in the past. The royal family is a yoke around all our necks, it is holding Britain back in the battle for innovation and progress.

France has twice the tourism we do and they got rid of their monarchy, the reason? The Eiffel tower. We need to build something bigger than the Eiffel tower using the £100m a year we would save if we abolished this corrupt secret society.

Do you have some sort of evidence? By all accounts, the monarchy is good for the UK. I've never heard that they are a net negative. Do you see people waiting in line for 24 hours to see the casket? That's not just popular; that's a whole other level of adoration.

Old habits die hard. It's a tradition but only now the royal family have no power. Many ppl do things that they have no idea why they do it, like celebrate Christmas.

They are a money sink and the money spent on them and given to them would be better off spending on building a nation capable of surviving into the modern era and not holding onto relics of a time past.

How much does the monarchy cost each taxpayer each year?

It varies of course. This year will likely be the most in the history of the British crown. Depending on weddings, renovation of palaces and other parties it can vary from £60m to billions. This money can be spent on getting 14 million UK citizens out of poverty.

I think it's about a pound per person, per year.

When you look at these very long lines of people of all ages, all nationalities, all origins and all walks of life patiently and slowly moving for hours to pay their respects to the late Queen, one can only fathom that this Lady was considered by many as the world's grandma!

It's a criminal racket and a family of the biggest slavers in the history of UK, we shouldn't be forced to support it yet we are.

Or a symbol of white supremacy. Suppose it depends entirely on which side of the fence you are.

Vote for people who will vote it out. Not sure what to tell you, since your fellow citizens adored her. 24 hour line to view a casket. I wish you luck in your quest. I’ve no skin in this game,

Historical amnesia about slavery and the coerced contributions of marginalized peoples to the birth of modern Britain has consequences. In July 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex called for Britain to confront its colonial past and the persistence of institutional racism. With the Sussexes now out of the picture, perhaps permanently, this much-needed reckoning is increasingly unlikely to come from within the royal family. Once again, the British monarchy demonstrates that it is not only out of touch with the current generation but still quietly embracing white supremacy - spiegel

Trying to convince me that a point in history was sub optimal due to subpar humans being nasty to other humans? You don’t say. Can you name a specific date, time, second in history that wasn’t true?

Last I checked, the Jewish people are not still bitching about Ramses, and Catholics now get along with Lutherans. Shocking, I know.

I don’t think the queues of people, all kinds of people which represents the homogeneous UK society, is about adoration.
It is about extended living theatre over more than a week, and people want to be on part of the stage rather than only be in the audience.
I say Theatre because there are rituals, costumes, voices, music, speech, lights, sounds, intervals and acts, roles for many, a limited amount of improvisation, a great city as the setting.
I believe it is about participation not adoration.
The concept of a modern Monarchy is something that is intended to protect the state from political dictatorship, and this event is intended to remind people that there exists a monarchy, beyond the characters of the individuals.
You can find remains of great amphitheatres in Greece. Epic Greek theatre happened at great events of state involving parades and processions and the like. Interestingly the ancient Greeks had the children of the fallen leading the processions. What is happening in London has echoes of that kind of event.

Or you can look at the evolution of society during her reign.

We have succeeded to overcome our resentment of the Romans occupation and domination. Maybe time to start overcoming your own resentments unless you need to carry it on and feel victims for centuries.

You are comparing 2000 years ago to 50 years ago?

    Wow.

Nobody is forcing you to accept anything, it's just that I believe it's good to know the real history of the very specific family that so many of these uk whites choose to idolize.

you think the overcoming of Roman occupation was passive acceptance?

What retribution was inflicted to the Romans in the last 2000 years?

Remains of their ancient cities are marvelled at all over their former empire.

YES!! Another world record for Britain.
Suck on that USSR with your paltry 30,000 Russians queuing to go to the first McDonalds.

I agree it is partly this.
But I would also add à big dollop of expressing a belonging to à national history and identity. It may be part of the tribal in all of us ...that we belong to some bigger collective than ourselves . We share à deep set of roots that have been spreading for over 1000 years.
I was born British and chose to live in France where I became à citizen but there is no way I can tap into being legitamately a part of that long national history of France.

Caractacus selected a hill fort, to fight a decisive battle with the Romans, where it was both easy for the Britons to move forward to attack the Romans but also to retreat if things did not go well in the battle. At the same time it would be hard for the Romans to attack or retreat. On the more gentle slopes the Britons piled up stones to make a rampart. The British warriors positioned themselves in front of these defences but they were still protected by a river which was in front of them - Tacitus.

Why don't you ask the 54 countries who became independent during Elibeth's reign and when asked, chose to keep her as head of their state.
Let them speak instead of speaking for them for the saké of your own opinion?

And one of the remaining powers of the monarch is to dismiss Parliament.

    I understand this.
But I was born in Kent.
I actually despise patriotism and nationalism, don’t feel it myself, but have to accept that others say they do.
My loyalty is to my local living breathing community and what we might achieve collectively. Is that tribalism?
I would say, if anything, that I personally tap into human history rather than any national history.
